always liked this trope. gave the boss a sense of honor/pride. cant think of another one off the top of my head besides rubicant from ff4. what are other examples?
Sort of off-topic but I like how Yuffie's dad sometimes heals her when she's on low HP <3
>>12312045Kane from Shining Force
>>12312045I hate bosses that heal themselves mid fight. It's like fuck you nigga.
>>12312934This boss' gimmick was way more obnoxious.>Nice hit, goyim, but you hesitated.>*Recovers +16,000HP*
>>12312045Not retro, but I actually kinda liked how they worked Rubicante into Edge's tale in FF4: TAY. One of the very few relatively well-done parts of that game's shitshow of a story.
>>12312045Although, he's basically trolling you. He doesn't hurt you and only have three turns to topple his ~10000 HP before he flees. The first time I made it to him, I wasted a turn buffing speed and defense.
>>12313346>Although, he's basically trolling youAnd you can win the battle by wiping your own team. Maybe the devs were aware of that quirk and gave him the full heal as a partial prevention measure.
Metal Black for the final battle gives you a full party heal right after you just did a boss rush. If you learned Al Phoenix previously and Metal Black does his Dark Phoenix attack in battle, Red learns his ultimate move by selecting Al Phoenix any turn after that attack. Also upon his death he gives your party another full heal.
