Was the uglified SNES revenge for Hiroshima?
>>
>>12312059
It was NoA's decision
>>
>thing is ugly!
Why do internet randos think they are some sort of indicator of something being good or bad looking? Your subjective opinion on things doesn't matter
>>
>>12312063
Almost everyone who didn't grow up with the US SNES say it's uglee. I was a segatard so I didn't grow up with either one, and I concur, JP/PAL is way superior.

US SNES and the fat PS2 must be the most overrated designs

No I think Americans are just fucking dumb and enjoy fucking ugly chunky unpleasant designs and gay lavender purple buttons.

Proof? Because again, loud randos online mean shit
>>

Just ask anybody who isn't Murican
>>
>>12312082
Nice empiric evidence.
Anyway, for real: why would I care about rsndo nerds online for their judgement on something being pretty or ugly? Do you think you have a good grasp of what a good looking thing is? lmao
>>
The notion that the North American SNES design was an act of revenge for Hiroshima is an unfounded conspiracy theory. The design differences were purely due to commercial, design, and practical considerations by Nintendo of America.
The console's designer, Lance Barr, redesigned the North American version (as well as the NES) for specific reasons:

>Aesthetics:
Barr reportedly disliked the look of the Japanese Super Famicom when stacked with its accessories, comparing it to a "bag of bread," and preferred to create an original design for the North American market.
>Market Positioning:
For the North American market, Nintendo wanted the console to look less like a toy and more like sophisticated stereo equipment to appeal to a broader audience.
>Durability and Practicality:
The flat top with the recessed switches was a design choice intended to discourage people from placing drinks on the console, which could lead to spills and damage. The plastic used also included a chemical flame retardant, a common practice at the time.

The design decisions were entirely separate from the historical events of World War II, which had ended decades earlier, in 1945.

I'm noticing a very apparent effort on /vr/ to shit up threads because its subject theme upsets anons (or should we say, 'anon'?)

not only the american supes nes is ugly,
everyone who has going through thrifting, knows that these things have 2 common problems:

A. The reset button is always useless because the american version uses a slider button instead of being pushed down, and the mechanism is made of plastic, so is super common to be broken when buying these things in the wild

B. American changed the barrel in the power jack from the super commong 5.5x2.1 to the awful 7.0x1.0. The result: almost every used snes has the power jack plastic broken, so enjoy soldering a new one everytime you buy one. Not to mention, THERES NO REPLACEMENT for the SNES Jr. model. You are literally fucked with that one.
>>
>>12312094
It has less to do with "thing I don't like" and more that I just wanted to say I don't trust online random nerds and their subjective opinion on design aesthetics.
>>12312095
You are one of those nerds
>>
i like the original better but i think the american snes is overhated. it's not a bad design.
>>
>>12312140
You're an "online random nerd" too, you solipsistic cunt who thinks he's Neo in the Matrix.
>>
>>12312146
I never stated any opinion on thing being "pretty" or "ugly" however.
I'm fine with both US SNES and SFC designs personally
>>
>>12312070
So who cares about their(your) idiot opinions?
What value is there in you shitting your pants over this 30 years later?

These are rhetorical questions, there's no important posts that are ever going to come from your ip.
>>
>>12312135
This is why I ended up importing a Super Famicom. My old SNES Jr I've had since the 90's power jack broke, and I was never particularly rough with it. It assume the plastic just got brittle with age.

How fucking childish are you? You're genuinely upset that people come to the retro vidya board to have opinions about retro vidya. I picture you like in webm related since you must be some stunted tard who's upset because his childhood isn't respected enough for his liking.

It's just a piece of plastic. You can literally 3D print a replacement.

Ugly? It's better looking. The grey/purple scheme is fire and iconic. The power, eject and reset buttons are so satisfying to press. It's boxy in the base way possible and has a more unique and identifiable shape than the SF.
>>

>PAL SNES has the case from the SFC but also horrible PAL-exclusive guts including region-locked controller ports and weird exclusive video cables with additional components
>US SNES has a terrible looking custom case but the insides are literally identical to the SFC
>SFC is almost the best of both worlds except for some reason the controllers have the shortest cables you've ever seen while the bundled AV and power cables are absurdly long, and modding the case for US carts is a pain in the ass
And on top of all of this there's also loads of different revisions of the internal guts and some of them are significantly better or more reliable than others
>>
>>12312059
Purple is the color of royalty. It's significant because it symbolizes the fact that every country in the world actually belongs to America
>>
>>12312691
>and modding the case for US carts is a pain in the ass
This is a good point. In that case, us snes really is the best option once you clip the prongs preventing super fami carts.

Any beaners remember when Club Nintendo LIED out their asses about how japanese sfc imports would killed our systems?

Only downside is, back when you could still find actual SuperFamicom carts in the wild, chances are is that they were already gutted to make em fit on US systems, before people figure out to clip the prongs inside the system which you think would been the original option.

The rest of sufami games I own I bought them online before the market got permafucked by hipsters, resellers and leftists
>>
>>12312784
It's kinda neat to find those carts in the wild. I have atleast one fire emblem i picked up at con that someone had melted the plastic on to fit.
>>
>>12312789
It was, good luck trying to find SOMETHING below 200 beaner pesos (10 bucks), oh, and that isn't just a cheap bootleg made on AliExpress or Etsy, there's literally some assholes in my city literally selling nothing but cheap repro bootlegs at premium prices, like NES games sold from 300 to 900 Mexican pesos now! And they are just AliExpress / Etsy that you can buy for cheap but are just a flash board with a gluetop that can fit up to 1gb of memory but wasted on a single NES game and usually come with a pin converter. (I have a pirate multicart of Rollchan romhack games that's labeless and it's like that, I like the cart color though.
>>
>>12312691
pal controller on sfc is perfect
>>
>>12312789
Almost every single Super Famicom game I saw in the wild in the 2000s and up until the early 2010s before they were fired up, had those mutilated edges, and by the way l, it wasn't just in Mexico, I once saw an American SNES with japanese carts being sold at St Thomas flea market in the 2000s, it had Super Mario World, Mario Kart and SF2, and they were all gutted like that!

The only SuperFamicom cart I got in the wild that wasn't butchered like that was a Super Donkey Kong 2 cart and I got it on a Facebook sell along with Super Butoden 2 from the same seller earlier.

Fixing the video output is as simple as soldering a $20 daughter board to the pins on the bottom of the video connector and running a few wires. Power jack is fucked though.

the point is, you could put these 20usd towards a full sizes SNES rather than just getting a Junior one. Hell, you can even afford a super famicom, which is cheaper, and get an adapter for american games.

these adapters are just PCB that work as extensions with a 3D printed case. They dont have any chips on them, so they shouldnt cause any compatibilty problem. Think of them as an extension cord.

jp version is uglier desu
