I'm thinking about getting into this franchise, starting with the first game on PS1.

Thoughts? I always liked the designs of the monsters. Pokemon is too abstract, the monsters in Monster Rancher look more "natural", which is what I prefer.

i dont think any of them are breedable so hard pass

I bet you feel pretty foolish right about now.

2 >>>> 4 >>> 1 = 5 = handheld ones
1 is just an inferior version of 2, skip it.
2 is the best one.
3 has extra mechanics that don't really add anything. Forgettable.
4 is okay. It has procgen dungeons and you can raise multiple monsters at the same time.
5 is odd. If you really love the circus then you might like it. Otherwise pass.
The handheld ones are "fine".
TL;DR play 2 and 4, skip everything else since you won't miss anything.

What about the card game?

It doesn't seem that bad
>>
>>12312570
It's fine. I'm not into card games but give it a shot.
>>

I already did. It's super easy to understand which I like. It's soul.

I will still try to play 1 at least for a few hours, before jumping into 2. You don't get to tell me what to skip dude.

The PC version of 2 has a mod team working on adding a ton of extra fusions, and has a very small tournament scene, I'd just play that. The first game is good, but I think 2 elevated it to great. Even if you want to play it casually get it on pc, the western release of 2 on ps1 had the monsters live a lot longer and it makes the game too easy, the pc version is based on the Japanese original.

remember to use the Dead or Alive disc in Monster Rancher 2 to get a unique monster

Btw, I was just joking haha.

Maybe I will skip it, maybe I won't. But is 1 really that worse than 2?
>>
>>12312634
1 is fine but 2 is better because it just expanded and iterated on 1.
>>
>>12312646
The more reason to begin with 1, because it will be unplayable if I start with 2. I'm not intending to 100% it, but I'll just take a look and see how far it will still be fun, then maybe I'll move on. I just don't like skipping stuff.

I recall the game boy one having atrocious engrish.
>>
Amazing KT whores out to Namco, SEGA Square, and Nintendo but never did an actual collab with them.

I think a Pokemon Rancher game would be the most addicting shit to play, or even a Chao Rancher.
>>
Aside the Warriors series, I mean.
>>
Did they ever try doing something closer to a pokemon style rpg? Would be neat to build a team from your cd collection.

Perfect!

What's an KT?

Speaking of which, did any MR monsters get in that Tecmo-Koei crossover game?
>>
>>12312805
Koei Tecmo

>>12312812
Not sure honestly, they probably end up appearing in Warriors Orochi if they did a large crossover though.
