I really got big into the turbografx 16 this year. I feel like I played a lot of famous retro games but I never "finished" them if that makes sense. I also got big into the occasional shmups. I also really enjoy some master system games.

>"Beat"
How did you beat it exactly? Did you 1credit clear 2 loops at least?!!!

It really frustrates me when normies say they "beat" a shmup and turns out they just credit fed it spammed continues ahhhhh!!! €¥√

shut the fuck up you autistic retard and kys
>>
>>12313007
"beating" a shmup always means they 1CC'd the first loop, any additional loops would get mentioned.

i'm pretty sure they're an authentic jap

There is no universe where Virtua Fighter is the GOAT of 1993 over Doom, or Mortal Kombat 2, or Myst. Like-wise, there is no universe where Super Mario Bros beats out Tetris in 1985. Like-wise, there is no universe where Ultima 7 isn't the GOAT of 1992.

So many things wrong with this list.

Master of Orion 2.

no zero4 champ? that's the only pc engine game I have and its pretty fun. everything else turbographix seems like garbage.

(not including the emerald dragon English patch that just dropped less than a week ago for PC engine CD)

Now this is fucking delusional

No point to continue this thread until OP proves he "beat" Raiden with a 1CC replay video.

Yes I said it.
Waiting....

this is your brain on severe nintendentis, is a mental illness that is suffered that people who only have played 9 videogames in their life, it is really sad.

I love nintendo games, but I hate people who parrots and parrots and parrots about nintendo games with burning passion. (have a clue, their favourite soul calibur is 2, their favourite tales is symphonia), they are the worst of the worst of videogames.
>>
>>12313792
Not even half of the chart are Nintendo games, seems more like you have Nintendo Derangement Syndrome
>>
>>12313747
You're a faggot.
>>
It kills me when people say they beat like 80 games in a year and it's all 2 hour long gen 3/4 games they save stated through. Or like when they "play" doom and it's just the retail tutorial wads. Like they didn't even think to look further. Peak NPC behavior.
>>
>>12314601
So long as they have fun it's all good.
inb4 you claim they didn't have fun.
>>
>>12314621
>you claim they didn't have fun.
I mean yeah I don't know man, like if you just blast through a game in a single sitting on your first try and have no desire to replay it did you have fun? I'd be mad as hell if that happened in something I paid money for. I always say "never play anything you wouldn't pay for".
>>
>>12314630
Yes I had fun
>but would you replay it
Why would I? I have already played it
>>
>>12314650
>Yes I had fun
I don't believe you.

>it's all 2 hour long gen 3/4 games they save stated through.
If you're talking about my chart then yes I love gen 3 & 4 games and you probabl don't know this but most of them are pretty short, with the exception of rpgs and the like. I don't try to play as many games as possible I just play what looks fun to me. And no I don't use save states. >Or like when they "play" doom and it's just the retail tutorial wads.
I don't really care about fanmade stuff or mods/hacks, I like to experience the game for what it is. I play expansions too but don't include them on my chart.
>Peak NPC behavior
Yes you're so mysterious and unique yourself
>>
>>12314675
>I like to experience the game for what it is
This is how you can tell someone is underage
>>
>>12314682
Why is that? Because I don't play the thousands of shovelware Doom wads like the folks in the retro fps general?
>>
>>12314692
Why don't you try ancient aliens right now and tell me how that compares to doom 2
>>
>>12314794
I'll look into it. I'm sure there are good ones out there but I'm just not interested in sifting through all the shovelware when there's so much else I'd rather play.
>>
>>12314803

Streets of Rage 2 is still one of the greatest games ever made, in terms of pure design. Don't let the limitations of the genre confuse you into thinking otherwise.

Well judging from your picks I figured you were about my age, maybe slightly older, and I'm 42.
Never heard of Skykid, Falcon 4.0 or Soul Blazer though, seems pointless to ask if you think I should check them out given they're your favourite games, but I'd be interested to know what they are and why you think they're top-tier.
>>
>>12315584
Yeah I'm 43.

Sky Kid is a Namco arcade game, but ported to the NES. I think the NES version is better for gameplay, but obviously the arcade version is better for graphics and visuals. The NES version is a co-op SHMUP that scrolls right to left. Very unique. You take off, grab a bomb to drop on a target and then land. Tons of enemies to shoot down in between. It's a lot like Super Mario Bros in that each level ups the difficulty and ads something new, and there are tons of secrets. The main gameplay plus is the backloop you can do with the b button, while a fires. It allows you to dodge attack and get behind someone, but it if you get hit you don't die instantly, your plane starts to crash and smashing the loop button can save your plane. Fucking underrated as fuck, and hard as fuck. See some gameplay videos of it. AVGN did it with Mike Matei a while back.

Soul Blazer is an amazing action RPG by Enix that came out shortly after Zelda LttP. It has a formula, and if you like it you'll love the game. Amazing graphics, music and great locations. I still think it's better than the sequels Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma.

Falco 4.0 was the best flight sim of the day, and it had a sequel which was allied force. Almost 99% realistic to the real F-16. Had hours spent learning how to fly it and all the systems. Best memories are flying from Italy to Bosnia for an hour, bombing a power plant, dodging several SAMs and takign down 4 enemies MIGs then barely making it back to the base in Italy with no gas and gliding onto the runway. Took well over 2 hours with a control stick on my computer at night, gameplay was at night. I was locked in like no other game in my life.

Thanks for sharing, though I'd argue 43 IS mid-40s! Trying to think of games I could recommend to you, as much like you most of my 'best' games are well-known (Refreshing that you're not a contrarian faggot like most people here who insist any popular game is bad by default because normies like it). If I try to think of some more obscure or lesser-known titles though....

In the spirit of retro, the most obscure I'd encourage you to check out is an old game called Repton 3. It was a BBC Micro game and had a few level pack expansions that are most of the content (base game is 24 levels, each expansion is 40!). It can be emulated easily enough, or if you don't mind paying out there's a windows version you can buy the whole lot online for about $15 (google it, it's not on Steam for some reason). It plays similarly to Boulderdash, but vastly superior, each level a timed puzzle that starts easy and gets really, REALLY hard. The puzzles in the levels are so well-designed and intricate it's an absolute masterclass in puzzle design.

Avoiding traditional roguelikes, that's the only really obscure one I can think to recommend, others are either obscure but casual recommendations (great but not incredible) or not all that obscure but are definitely worth your time if you missed them.

For the latter I'd recommend Into the Breach, which might just be the most well-designed game I've ever seen - a practically zero-RNG strategy/puzzle game that always feels fresh, can't recommend it highly enough. FTL is also excellent (same devs) and a bit more active if you're not a fan of turn-based games. I'd also recommend Dark Chronicle (charming action RPG, bit grindy but different and makes up for it in other ways), Cave Story, Burnout 3/4 and Red Alert 2 (best RTS without expansion that breaks balance).

Lesser-known games worth checking out I'd say Reventure was a good time, Dungeons of Dredmor if you want a roguelike with Lucasarts humour, Shotgun King and Rogue Legacy.
