I liked it. Yes it was slow and clunky, but it was still fun and has animations that put even Capcom's contemporaneous work to shame.
Yes. Let us talk about the game. And NOTHING else.
>>12313995Is there something about this game I should know. I own it. Does it have nude kids on disc or something?
>>12314012He's probably referring to the drama surrounding the fan translation. It's not even worth bringing up, an English version is out and it's perfectly fine. It took around 20 hours for me to fully complete the game and it only crashed 3 times, all of which were the original game's fault and not the translation. Be careful when trying to plant seeds, it sometimes just freezes the game.
>>12314039Oh.... so probably some conservatives ass mad that a pronoun isn't correct or some other weak shit
>>12314046Well if you want to know, it was a case of someone saying they're translating the game over the course of 15 years with zero tangible progress. Then someone else forked his ancient open source version of the translation and actually completed it in a few months. The original translator tried to retroactively remove the GPL license to stop him, which isn't possible, so then he tried whining about him not asking him permission (something which is not required and just so he could say no and keep "working" on it forever, obviously). Anyway the new guy finished the translation and it's great.
>>12314056I thought a third guy picked it up and went STFU on both of them? Guess I misremembered.
>>12314134That was one of the translators that boasted their translations were "uncensored" who was working for the second guy but got fired because they kept insisting on translating every instance of the word "kuso" into "shit," which isn't correct, it was clear their idea of a "uncensored" translation meant "fill it with swearing".After being fired they basically whined "I will make my OWN translation! With blackjack and hookers!" then nobody heard from them again. It's safe to say it will never happen and they have put even less work into their attempt than the first translator, likely zero.

I did enjoy the game but I dropped it early because it's really long and the combat never really changes. You don't really get new moves or anything. It's just a lot of the same. I need a more dynamic action rpg. But if I had played it as a kid and didn't have an infinite supply of games to play, I probably would have finished it. Again I did enjoy it. I got up to the part where you kill the worm in the desert and realized I hadnt even tickled the surface of that game's length
I am currently playing this now, I just beat up a fat fucking ghost and an extremely annoying spider boss to save a unicornI feel like I'm playing it wrong sometimes since fights feel a little slow and it seems like I run out of stamina way too fast. The jumping seems almost useless because I never seem to jump far enough to get in an aerial attack.Still early ish on obviously, but anything I should take into consideration?
>>12314453Jumping is only really useful against flying enemies or to dodge certain attacks. In most situations you're trying to balance using the meter to dodge (holding B) and waiting for it to charge enough to combo into your charge attack (hold down C). If your uppercut charge attack lands, then the enemy is knocked over and you're forced into a long recovery that gives you back a ton of stamina. You can use items while in that recovery, useful for if your attack misses or is blocked.
Thanks for the tip, I'll try to avoid using jumps. Sometimes making up the distance can be a pain, as well as getting combo'd by enemies. I kinda wish stamina recovered when not actively attacking but oh well. The item limit is also pretty rough, in this early stretch it never feels like I have enough room even with three bags.
Would be considered a timeless classic if it was on Playstation
>>12315654Correct
>>12315654I doubt the PSX would have been able to handle it, the one real advantage Saturn had over the PlayStation is it's 2D capabilities. The sprites would have to be considerably neutered to fit
>>12313958Dids you beat all the chapters?I hated the witch chapter
>>12313995i'd have sex with every character on the cover
>>12317394Yes, Proserpina's section is the only bad part of the game. She plays like shit and the entire chapter is a fetch quest. They knew what they were doing by putting Edward as the second book, his animations are some of the coolest in any game. I love the usage of CG for the sword.
>>12315671Lmao the PS1 can push more Sprites than the Saturn
>>12318032You mean polygons
>>12318041That's the same for 5Gen console That's the reason why SOTN has an awfull framerate on Saturn, too many sprites on screen
>>12318050SotN is a 3D game
>>12314056I cant imagine how much a worthless piece of shit you have to be to get mad that someone else is finishing the job you fucking abandoned.
>>12315654>>12315660lol what a ridiculous cope, every good saturn game would be forgotten if it was on ps1 with actual competition, including this one
>>12318145I'd understand it if they did a terrible job or if they were literally stealing your work, but as far as I know, it was neither. The second guy always made sure the first guy was credited every step of the way. First guy literally didn't know how his licenses worked and fucked himself over. It's like putting out a game-specific text-editor and being surprised that you opened the floodgates for anyone with a basement IQ to make shitty script hacks. What did he expect?
>>12318130Clearly 2D
>>12318529You clearly haven't played it then
>>12318440How do you even license something that's just a modification of a work you don't own you begin with?
>>12318543Commie rules
>>12318543All GPL and adjacent licenses amount to are "don't be a dick." The first guy made an ass of himself so he can get dicked.
>>12318148What actual competition? MGS? FF7? The list goes on...
>>12318535 >I don't care if 99% of the game is 2D ,if there is one element in 3D it's not a 2D game !!!
>>12318624For that 3D element to be in there means that the framework is 3D
>>12318618
>>12318628Let's hear what Digital foundry think of that https://youtu.be/5PxGM1np2hU?si=p0p-K15Lk6Gibbtl1:50 "Dracula x is a 2D action game primary draw by PlayStation sprite command"12:55 "we also hope that this help dispel the myth run slowly due to the way PlayStation handle 2D,both system work very similarly in that regard,it's simply that the saturn perform these opération more slowly"
>>12318631I already mentioned Final Fantasy
>>12318652> both system work very similarly in that regard,it's simply that the saturn perform these opération more slowlyYes anon, in context with how PS1 renders 2D, within a 3D framework which the Saturn can’t do well
>>12318663No he said that Saturn and PS1 are very similar in the way they handle 2D
>>12318690Then he’s completely wrong
>>12318659And all the others games?
>>12318693Yeah anon you know more than john linneman...
>>12318695No anon, I’m saying you misunderstand what he’s saying
>>12318702No you said "he's" if you were talking about me that would be "you"
>>12318032Incorrect, the PSX was also lacking in memory to store that many sprites. Look at the joke that is Darkstalkers 3.
>>12318529SOTN was designed with the PSX in mind, the PSX basically had no native 2D capabilities, it's 2D games were essentially running in 3D putting all the sprites on a flat texture, not unlike Mario Kart 64's racers. A port of that to the Saturn would definitely suffer if the game was not essentially rebuilt from scratch for it.Early every 2D fighting game that was released on both was better on Saturn.
>>12318709Do I have to explain context to you?
>>12318734>He need to use ram cart to competeLmaoYou're wrong linneman said that the PS1 is better to push a huge numbers of sprites just look at the Castlevania video
>>12318748Wrong >"we also hope that this help dispel the myth it run slowly due to the way PlayStation handle 2D,both system work very similarly in that regard"
>>12318771>itAnon, he's talking specifically about SotN
>>12318776I don't think trying to use logic is going to work on this guy
>>12318776No, retard like you think "the PS1 can't do 2D" and Linneman respond to people like you by saying that's not true and that they are similar
>>12318804The PS1 does 2D within the confines of polygons The Saturn can do traditional hardware sprites like the 16 bit consoles, it doesn't do this in the case of SotN because it is a cheap port with lots of issues
