Tempest is literally the best. It's from the early era of arcade when you can just FEEL the acid those devs did. If I'm ever MJ rich and can buy arcade cabinets this one is going in first

"Paddle" was the name officially used by Atari for their main potentiometer-based controller.

LOL no. You can make your own for a fraction of that price.

I played Tempest on original Atari Jaguar last year and it really wasn't that good,
>>
>>12319559
Even worse, they keep calling it a spinner when it's really a paddle. Why do all the knowledgeable grownups keep calling it the wrong thing?
>>
>>12319902
The term is incorrectly used colloquially
>>
>>12319917
No. You're just a retarded child who's never used either and doesn't know the difference.

The spinner is the wheel itself, the paddle is the whole controller, button(s) included.

Same as retro games. We discuss vintage games here. 20xx is a retro game. Shovel Knight is a retro game.

you faggots are all retarded and prolly dont even sweep moons

those were always called paddle controllers
everyone who had an atari, had breakout, and thus had paddle controllers multiple if they wanted to play warlords and they were called paddle controllers, cuz you used them to control the paddle
>>
>>12321472
Indeed.
I've seen spinner used in the context of arcade cabinets.

PS: When are they fucking going to update 4chan to accept webp images.

imagine pretending to be an oldfag expert and not knowing the difference between a paddle and a spinner.
>>12321482
>I've seen spinner used in the context of arcade cabinets.
That was probably in the context of machines that used spinners instead of paddles.

It truly is a sad sign of the times that so many children have never had the opportunity to play these great classics on original hardware, or even modern reproductions. With some games the experience simply can't even be remotely replicated using your 8shitdo.

nta
paddle: limited rotation angles, absolute position, like a volume dial
spinner: unlimited rotation angle, relative position, like a mouse wheel
>>
>>12321482
>When are they fucking going to update 4chan to accept webp images.
Hopefully never, webp needs to die a painful death. Nobody asked for it, nobody outside of a tiny handful of autistic web designers likes it. The less anything supports it, the better.
>>
>>12321472
There was also the driving controller, which is what anons are calling "spinners."

Though I've never heard anybody call them that, maybe it's a regional thing? I always heard them called dials in the handful of times I heard anybody talk about them in the arcades, but I also wouldn't be surprised if that was just my friend group's thing.
