Don’t be ashamed, show everybody how dumb you were.I got stuck at this part because I was doing it wrong. Never beat it until years later on emulator.
Yeah this puzzle is really shitty>in front of the town where you get the clue all the palm trees form an 8>turns out nothing needs to be done on that screen>mfw
I had already played Sword of Mana by that point, so I immediately knew what to do.

this part of re2. my brother and i both could not tell you could drop down next to that handrail (which looked more like a pipe to me). it didnt help that i was playing on a tiny tv but i remember being stuck here for a few days i think. i would come home from school and play for a few minutes trying to figure out what was wrong. i really thought my save was bricked or something until i finally realized.
Not really an in-game thing, but still s stupid kids thing related to games: in dark sun, there's a plot point involving poisoned guavas. But due to a coding error, all guavas were poison. So it wasn't until i found them in the grocery store when i was an adult that i learned that guavas were not, in fact, just poisonous fruit.
This fucking ledge. You're supposed to jump to it from that chain link flooring. Problem is, there is no other ledge in the game that is this height. It looks too high to jump to, so you figure it must be an exit rather than an entrance. There must be some other door, some other path, some item or something that can help me get up to it. Me and my brother were stuck at this spot for like a week, neither of us knowing how to progress. At this point in the game, you're so familiar with the mechanics, movement, etc. that you can intuit what feels right and what feels wrong, what jumps you can make and what jumps you can't. When I finally jumped to it, after combing through every room of the temple multiple times and coming up empty, it looks like youre going to miss the jump and faceplant on the wall and fall into the lava below, but at the last second, the game actually BUMPS Link up about a foot and you hang on to the ledge. Fucking stupid. When I told my brother I got past this part, he asked me "How?""You just jump to that ledge."Facepalms all around.

>>12316212T&C Surf Design on the side scrolling skateboard part when you get to those barrels that are lined up blocking the way. Never did figure out how to get over them.
>>12316269Heh I got stuck there for a little bit on my last playthrough, was my first time playing through it since '99. It really doesn't look like you should be able to make that jump.
>>12316269I played OOT (beyond like the 3rd dungeon) for the first time last year as well through the 3ds port. Also got stuck here. For some reason I ended up putting the game down in Ganon's castle and not picking it up again. I did the same with Wind Waker years ago and dropped it in the last dungeon, not sure I can be bothered to go back to OOT for half a dungeon and some credit sequences now.
>>12316212In Super Mario RPG, my brother and I were stuck in Marrymore for a while. We never got the Cricket Pie for Frogfucius, so we couldn't go on. Forgot about going to the shop in the Mushroom Kingdom completely. One of the few times we actually called a hotline. The guy instantly knew, seemed like a common place for kids to get stuck.
>>12316212>years laterLooks like that could be your problem. You're 12 now so "years" earlier you might have been too young to understand simple shit>on emulator. Also, poor and esl might indicate generational retardation
This in alundra. Theres even a sign that tells you the order in a not at all difficult to understand way. My problem was not realizing that you need to stack them. I placed one at a time, then removed it for the next one in the sequence.https://youtu.be/IEqvZ2l09SI?t=85
>>12316212the barrel in Sonic 3>oh but that's a common-I'm 31. I had a Genesis as a "below 10 years old" child because my parents had me buy my own games from chore money, and it was cheaper. I had access to gamefaqs.Instead of looking up how to get past the barrel, I looked up cheatcodes, put in debug mode, and would play up to the barrel and debug phase through the floor to get past it.
Maybe it’s just the port but I’m replaying ff8 on switch 2 and there’s so many moments where I’ve been stuck cause what I thought would work didn’t cause I wasnt lined up to the interactive object perfectly.
>>12316212Zelda: Link's Awakening. I couldn't connect the clue about the raccoon's nose to the Magic Powder. My cousin had to show me that one. Much later, I got stumped at the Face Shrine where "the eyes had walls", but I then lost the cart and never got to figure that out at all.
>>12316993I also got filtered at some part in Links Awakening but it's been so long I don't even remember the part. I still have the cart but don't have a GBC or GBA with me (most of my old game shit is with my parents 1000 miles away)
>>12316212I got filtered by A Boy and his Blob. Could never figure out how to get past the opening road/subway section.
>>12317301>I also got filtered by how a grownup who had played a game "so long" ago would easily be able to find any information about that game online and wouldn't need to announce how they totally don't live in their parents basement which is totally 1000 miles awaySure. You wanted to be closer to your Canadian girlfriend.
A lot of the old Sierra adventure games. I'd load up a game, walk around for a little bit, die a few times, get bored, turn 360 and leave. Didn't own any of their hint books back then, so in my defense they weren't really beatable without them. I did replay a bunch of them a few years ago and beat them all, but I did have to hunt for an online guide quite a few times because there were way too many damn moon logic puzzles.A pie? Seriously? Roberta, what were you thinking?!?!
>>12317393All those cherries fallinglike tears in the rain
One of the God of War games, I think GoW 2. There's a puzzle where you have to take a dead body and leave it on a switch to hold the door open. Dead bodies occasionally float by in a sewer stream, behind a grate. You can only see a small part of it at a time, and it's easy to glimpse that section and not see a body floating by, so I was stuck there for a while
>>12316726You jump while holding the skateboard, it's hold B then press A or something.
>>12316212> SaGa Frontier: Asellus in Fascinaturu, couldn't figure out how to escape until I turned 15.> FF7: Got stuck in the Shinra transport, couldn't see well enough on my 10" black & white TV to spot NPCs.1994 to 2004 were the best years of my life.
>>12317543Same, but in my case I never really tried too hard in the first place. They were always just someone else's games that happened to be on a computer i had access too.
>>12316993I got one similar due to ESL. Right at the very end I couldn't beat Ganon because I didn't have the Silver Arrows. I'd go to the fortune-teller and she would say something about "a place of gossip" I didn't quite get back then. After wandering a lot I ended up finding by accident the store that sells the big bombs in the Dark World (The hint was about going to the library's counterpart), and even there I spent some time stuck because I didn't know I had to pick the bomb up to carry it all the way to the Pyramid to blow up that cracked wall, thinking it would upgrade the ones I had after paying. It's a good thing I had nothing else to play other than that and SMW back then or I would have given up.
>>12316212- I'm in my forties now- Be me as an early teenager playing 'Lure of the Temptress'- It took me years to figure out, that to get into the castle I had to follow the skroll and then look through the shop window to hear the shop clerk's conversation.
>>12316212I was gonna try every single letter combo but I gave up until later in life.
>>12319127Sure
>>12316212Upon release, this shield-push puzzle pinned me at the beginning of LA. I dropped the game, then tried it again when Super Game Boy came out, randomly pressing buttons until the thing budged suddenly.I don't know if it's "stupid," because this mechanic is never hinted at, never primed for you, and never used again. It's cool, but truly awful game design that I'm surprised made it to release.
>>12319049I don't know how I got past this. I think I might have bought a strategy guide just to progress.
>>12316212In every pnc adventure, if I ever get stumped hard enough to use a guide, I typically keep using it for the rest of the game.
I was stuck on the opera sequence forever, either running out of time or dying to Ultros. Then, when I *finally* beat it, during the cutscene flying to Vector, my dad ripped out the plug on the SNES. That moment was burned into my psyche.
>>12316269I can see how you'd get stuck there. I just tried the ledge anyway because I was impatient and said fuck it, let's see how lenient the game really is. >>12319049peanis
I never got past the first stage. I defeated all the enemies, but I didn't know what else to do.
>>12319576I thought one of the signs near this area hints to it, but it might be only in the Japanese version.
Fucking de le metalica
This was the worst. It took me like 2 weeks of wandering aimlessly to figure it out.>>12316867This too. I didn't get it until I played it as an adult.
I rented this game and didn't know there was an item to "change worlds". I was with the Rottweiler the whole time.
>>12319049I got stuck here too as a kid. Me, my dad, my brother all tried to figure it out. My brother ended up looking it up on an online walkthrough for me.Also was never able to do the Yoshi's race by myself. Couldn't get the beat down. I'd always have to ask him to do it for me. When I was finally able to do it on my own (which was like 20 years old), I felt kinda sad.
>>12316269oh, to be young again
>>12316212>>12316240There was a video game show that showed this part so I knew what to do when I played it a few years later. Maybe I would have been filtered.>>12320164Now this one sucks and I had to look at a walkthrough. I wonder if the clues make more sense in Japanese.
>>12316212I softlocked myself in Final Fantasy Tactics.Someone told me to keep multiple saves, but I didn't because I only had 1 memory card. I understand the systems well enough to beat the game with minimal battles now, but I never made it to Act 4 until I was an adult.
>>12321034Anon, you could have cleared up some space in your memory card. You didn't need that Megaman X4 save after finishing the game twice.
>>12317506the battery on it died a long time ago, people who aren't losers move out of their parents house, often far away, and you are a massive faggot

>>12321350I wonder how much you got beat up in school
>>12316212Took me four weeks to find the god damn last key room behind the master key chest. Apart from that the water temple actually wasnt that hard.
>>12321368You’re just not thinking third dimensionally.
>>12321358Never. In the before times children rarely violently triggered when they got caught telling tall tales. There was always "that kid" who just kept piling lies on top lies like you. But like you he was always a beta bitch just trying to fit in.
>>12316993I also remember not being able to find the 5th leaf. It's the one where you have to kill the thing that pops out of the holes. I vaguely remember trying to kill it, failing, then deciding it just went back underground whenever you attacked it and couldn't actually be killed.
>get fire rod>holy shit this is awesome>burn everything>shoot fire at skulls >nothing happens>continue shooting fire at skulls, nothing happens>get here>cant run up the centipede/bug tongue or whatever the fuck it is>well its a giant skull, so surely not>run aorund the lsot woods for another hour before running out of ideas and look it upfuck you nintendo, it literally never works on rock or skull again, why would anyone think it would suddenly work this one time
>>12321774People think thats a skull? I assumed its some wooden shit and therefore burns.
>>12321774The fact that I'd obtained the fire rod a few minutes earlier definitely helped here. Did not get stuck at all though I can sort of see why one might. It took me a long time to figure out the Grumble Goryia in Zelda 1, though.
>>12320203You could also just shoot the dogs and get eaten by them. Also, you're told by Nettie to use the bear. Were you a kid or did you not know English?
The subway mission on syphron filter. I think specifically the part where you have to defuse the bombs. Also, I got lucky on the golden eye 64 mission where you have to run through a shit load of people shooting you from what i recall was a train station. The neighbor kid asked me if I could beat it for him and I couldnt.
>>12316212I also got filtered hard on golden sun 2 iirc where you're on the boat and have to go through the water maze.
it's weird how back when i was in elementary and middle school i'd get stuck for a week at a certain part but nowadays i'll struggle for an hour at most before i figure it out
This fucking room.I couldn't read english but I could get through the game just fine until that point but it required reading the owl statue message that explained the order to kill the enemies in.A dictionary didn't even help because it said "pols voice" instead of rabbit
>>12316867I accidentally phased through the wall and barely beat the boss with enough time left. I just bypassed it by luck
>>12320164I just beat Wild Arms last year, and I had to look this up, too. It really fucking sucks that you have to fight random encounters during this part and the spell that reduces them barely does anything. The game as a whole kind of falls apart in the second half. I like it and all, but fuck me does it have some annoying puzzles. I didn't really understand that one where you have to blow up the statue with Rudy, either.
>>12322253theres also a really powerful spell book for cecilia too that you will miss permanently once its over
>>12322270Yeah, and so are the friggin' MP restore items. That game really has some issues.
>>12319586The great majority of adventure games can be beaten perfectly without a guide, but it's also true that it's a genre where you fell stuck half the time
>>12321774I got stuck here for days for the exact same reason. Felt like a complete idiot when a friend told me what I had to do.
>>12320164This isn't stupid at all, the puzzles in this game SUCK A BAG OF FUCK. I couldn't afford a strategy guide and would check the Wild Arms guide at Electronics Boutique whenever we went to the mall. One day, the guide was no longer there and I didn't beat the game until emulation MUCH later.
>>12322303They're designed to be chipped away at for months, which I appreciate.
>>12316212
Every game filtered me as a child because I was retarded. Majora’s Mask was my favorite game of all time and all I did was run around Clock Town as Deku Link.
In Burai Fighter, there's this one mini boss that pops up barely 1min into stage 1, you're supposed to aim for the blue core on its back to kill it, it's a trivial thing to do if you know about it because the boss doesn't "activate" until it scrolls around halfway into the screen but it still takes damage, so if you slip behind it and shoot it quick enough, it'll die before it even has a chance to defend itself. The game is one of those with a "turn" mechanic btw (press a button to switch between aiming left or right), guess this was the game's way of introducing you to it.Anyways, I rented this game and could never get past this little shit. The weak point seems so obvious in hindsight, specially if you know you can turn around, but I didn't know because not a single shooter I had played back then had a mechanic like that, and the game doesn't provide good enough feedback to let you know your attacks aren't working, so I figured you just had to shoot it long enough from the front like every other shooter enemy, which I did try for a while but gave up because the thing itself is fairly hard to dodge once it actually activates and starts attacking you and I could never survive more than a few seconds. So yeah, I gave up and wasted a rent because I couldn't even get past the start of stage 1.
When I was a kid, there was a jump in Yoshi's Island I was never able to make, but when I replayed the game as an adult I couldn't even find the part I got stuck on.
>>12316212This is more than anything a result of being ESL at the time and not being able to parse out the hints given to us, but my brother and I couldn't figure out for the life of us how to get into River City High and beat the game. We eventually found out through a cousin who had a magazine with tips for the game (IIRC he even mailed us the relevant page since he lived far away), but by then we didn't have the game anymore since we were only borrowing it from a friend of my brother's that he stopped hanging out with. We didn't beat it until years later through emulation.
