>the first Star Wars game.
>the best Star Wars game
this franchise has been raped to death, but they nailed it at the very first attempt.
I am in awe of this game. Atari I salute thee
>>
emulation doesnt do it justice, the vector screen of the arcade is on another level, its almost biological
>>
>>12337791
It is not the first Star Wars game. The first Star Wars game was "Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back" (Atari 1982).

>>the best Star Wars game
In the top five for sure.
>>
>>12337793
Vector graphics are definitely a sight to behold. Failing that, a CRT monitor with the brightness turned up is close. Just make sure to turn that brightness down afterwards to avoid burn-in.
>>
its on my bucket list of things to buy
>>
>>12337791
vector gfx are absolutely gorgeous irl
>>
>>12337793
I think the version in rougue squadron 3 is pretty good but I take your point about playing in the sit in arcade cabinet
>>
>>12337793
absolutely. and you definitely want the sit down cab. this game looks and feels so smooth there is just nothing else like it and it still feels futuristic
>>
>>12338069
There are dozens of sit in gallery shooters (just played a Halo one at great America last summer) and they even had that star wars trilogy arcade game that came out around the time of the rereleases of the OT. They all feel more dated than the vector graphics cabs.
>>
love this game. not only is it impressive "for its age" but it still looks cool as shit on its own right. the different colors really stand out too. pretty sure this is my favorite vector based game.
make sure you check out Star Wars Arcade for Sega 32X, it's kind of a sequel except with flat shaded polys instead of wireframe.
>>12338075
i am very nostalgic for the big rear projection cabinet. feels like every arcade from my childhood had one of those. the joystick was always a little too loose to aim precisely.
>>
I remember watching this being played in Terminator 2 and it looked fucking incredible.
>>
>>12337793
My first contact with the cockpit cabin happened when I was 7 years old or something. It was so amazing that I was drooling and pissing myself.
Of course when you are kid you are stupid as fuck so that maybe adds to the effect.

Post scores in sit down cab:
>>
>>12337791
It says a lot about the """evolution""" of gaming that 40+ years on this is still the best game in the franchise.
>>
>>12340443
You could say the same thing about filmmaking too. Funny how a guy in the 1970's with a couple of model kits could make a better movie than a giant corporation with advanced computers and billions of dollars to spend.
>>
>>12340443
dark forces mogs it
>>
>>12342893
Yeah, it's so much better without those horrible sewer levels in the Star Wars arcade game

Oh, wait
>>
>>12342893
you got mogged
>>
>>12338345
Truly the definition of timeless arcade design.
>>
>>12337791
Is this the one with the hilarious commercial?
>>
>>12340575
>You could say the same thing about filmmaking too
I often do. Both have fallen for the eyecandy meme and are shitting out unenjoyable slop.
>>12342893
>fpsfag opinion
lol
>>
It's a war crime and against Geneva convention that this was not released on the Vectrex. Were they retarded?
>>
>>12346267
Vectrex didn't last very long
>>
>>12337793
Yeah. That shit inspired whole movies, it was great. The early graphics of the 80s were mindbending, it's no wonder everyone thought computers were literal black magic back then and you could take a premise like getting sucked in to a virtual world of living bits and think "Yeah I could see that happening"
>>
>>12337791
You really think this is better than KOTOR and Jedi Knight games? Lmao
>>
>>12346243

Better than being an arcade fag

According to an fpsfag

Likely underpowered unless the gameplay was greatly simplified
