>>12338459Any good Zelda hax?
It wasn't easy, but I managed to beat this hack of Fire 'N Ice (best puzzle game for the NES). There were some cool ideas in there, but man... some of those boss levels were fucking bullshit. Precise timing like that has no place in an otherwise laid-back puzzle game.
>>12339621Hardest level in the game, by the way. I swear it took me over three hours to figure it out.
>>12339632you gotta hand it to those japanesevery sneaky people
>>12338459For the first time in gaming I DONT feel stupid for skipping all dialogue in a game when I put up with X-Fusion.
>>12340256Not clicking that shit
feels like the super metroid hack scene dried out right after x-fusion release. anything on the horizon that one might find interesting?
On mesen the more ambitious hacks either don't boot or have severe graphical issues. is this user error with settings or do I need a different emu?
>>12340951It's been drying out for a while. X-Fusion was the last highly anticipated release IIRC, and now it's out.
>>12341660which hacks? mesen is usually more compatible than other emulators
>>12341920most recently the deadpool ninja gaiden hack and a tecmo bowl 2025 roster one.
>>12341860and it was underwhelming
>>12341960I don't know which Tecmo Bowl hack you are talking about since I couldn't find one that was broken, but the problem with the Deadpool Ninja Gaiden hack is that the author configured the header incorrectly. In Mesen, go to "Debug --> NES Header Editor" and set "Save RAM" to 8 KB. Alternatively, in a hex editor, replace the first 16 bytes of the ROM>4E 45 53 1A 20 20 42 08 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01with the following 10 bytes:>4E 45 53 1A 20 20 42 08 00 00 70 00 00 00 00 01The emulator the ROM with the broken header works in fails to check if the mapper configuration uses SRAM. It incorrectly assumes it does, which causes the game to work. The behavior in Mesen is what is supposed to happen, and it reflects what happens when I tested the ROM on original hardware via a flashcart.

To anyone interested: Sonic Retro user Clownacy updated his Genesis emulator, clownmdemu, some weeks ago to support a configureable widescreen option. It's also worth mentioning that clownmdemu is available to play in a web browser. So if you're looking for a web emulator that also supports widescreen, there you go.https://forums.sonicretro.org/posts/1109963/
>>12361237Interesting, but ill stick with BlastEm
>>12361232>>12357848pathetic: the post
>>12359465I only eat vintage
I just want to flash a modded rom onto a single game snes pcb board, and make custom cartridges like pic related
>>12338459What would everyone be interested in seeing in terms of a SM hack? I have a few ideas and want to start dabbling in. Currently playing through a few hacks simultaneously (VITALITY, Ascent, Ancient Chozo, Junkoid) and there's definitely varying degrees of minimum skill level required. I want to make something that is accessible and fun, yet rewards the advanced / autistic speed runners. Any suggestions?
>>12363562Yeah, that would be great to do. Speaking of this, how otherworldly would it be to fuse Super Metroid and Earthbound? I think it would be possible, but the important distinction would be in deciding what elements to keep from each, which engine to use, battle mechanics, etc.
>>12363594>I want to make something that is accessible and fun, yet rewards the advanced / autistic speed runners. Any suggestions?A lot of hacks popular with speedrunners are popular with normal players too because they like much of the same things. Interesting places to explore, freedom of movement, cool setpieces, new toys to play with, sections tricky at first but simple with practice (that don't kill you before you get the chance), etc. If your hack is well designed for regular players, speedrunners will probably like it too.Other than that, the usual method of combining the two styles is pretty simple. Have a clear but winding road through the entire game and hidden shortcuts that require speedrunner bullshit. Just make sure to leave escape hatches for intermediate players. If I can sneak into an area with precise wall/bomb jumps I better not have to do pro speedrunner bullshit to get out. Give me consolation missiles and send me on my way
>>12363636I should add that X-Fusion is a great example of what not to do. It tries to have epic speedrunner difficulty sections but there's videos of the #1 guy on the Super Metroid leaderboard playing it. Like everyone else he dies to random bullshit and looks utterly bewildered and disappointed
>>12363594naked samus
>>12361750pathetic: the post
>>12363770Hell yeah, or each upgrade takes away more of her clothes
>>12363636>>12363709I am in intermediate player as well, so I think designing to that level would be fine. I feel more inclined to offer more rewards and upgrades early on so that more fun can be had into the late stages of the game. I think too many hacks want to make you beg for something which is fucking stupid. Thanks for your input.
>>12363562Seek help
>>12363709>>12363636Speedruners literally ruined the way we see Retro gaming, them and TAS deceptive editing.
>>12365460What did TAS do?
>>12365487I think Speedrunning spawned off them
>>12339575No lol
>>12365460Super Metroid speedrunners want good hacks the same as everyone else. I looked up a bunch to see how they handled X-Fusion's trial and error bullshit and they all hated it. I pop open https://metroidconstruction.com/hacks.php and see a list of fun stuff because that's what the community likes.Kaizo runners did take over Super Mario World hacking and pump out endless dog shit though
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCmhwyDpzSs
>>12366957If vidya youtubers werent such faggots and actually complied to tell ''Its a piece of shit'' we wouldnt see so many damn apologio flip flop videos on x-fusion.
I liked X-Fusion. Sorry not sorry.
>>12367087He put an insane amount of work into stuff like the bosses and environments which makes it so disappointing the design was so bad. You can see bits and pieces of really cool ideas everywhere but almost none of them are executed well
>>12367143Which is weird because his other hacks are pretty good, if short. Maybe that's the problem: Length.
>>12367442heh, it was supposed to be a boss rush gaunlet after all
>>12366980Action and movement is too damn fast for its own detriment, mainly because it falls for the whole ''see guys SNES isnt slow, we can blast process too'', but it would feel like hell to play.
>>12367143Ill give it credit, he did manage the seemingly impossible, make ACTUAL NEW BOSSES FEEL LIKE NEW BOSSES, well mostly porting the OG Fusion's rogue's gallery, regular enemies and bosses with their original patterns and behavior, even adding some extra phases to them, and even adding extra bosses, tough those were the most underwhelming ones in my opinion Since those were the Super Metroid bosses but with enough modifiers to make them feel like, well, not just the OG SM bosses with different sprites, but the ''not kraid'' final boss was a lame disappointment, and the ''True Kraid'' anti climax was LAME, oh and X-Draygon was a tedious drag-out piece of shit, the only ones i genuienly liked were the Phantoom Crocomire Fusion and the X-Spore., since once again, the whole idea for it started as a ''boss rush'' hack, so level layouts and design came out late.I REALLY doubt this really took 10+ years to be developed, let alone finished, most likely Metaquarius suffered from Procastrination Autismo of wanting to throw everything and start again over and over and over. That being said, i am giving X-Fusion one more chance with the Ledge Grip hack, which isnt as snappy as OG Fusion but it does help a bit, but i am playing on normal and [spoilerX-Crocomire 1st form] its a pain with those white power balls that he throws.
>>12367143The only section in X-Fusion that I had extreme trouble with was the Ice-X vertical cave at the start of NOC, but that's all.I am not good at navigating or fighting in Metroid, but i do know how to walljump and liberally use the Reserve system, so the game felt like it has no resistance. I wonder if Hard mode is actually hard?
>>12367734Those balls are easy as hell to dodge. You just need to run away.
I'm very unhappy that there is such a low amount of smb2 ROM hacks that aren't just cranking up the difficulty to unfun levels. Even then there's only like 15 ROM hacks total. Compare that to the smb1 or smb3, tons of great stuff.
>>12338459Now we gaming.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCmhwyDpzSs
>>12367957We got it the first time
Let's say hypothetically, just for the sake of fun, I were to make a N3DS "port" (or recreation/demake) of either The Sims or the Elder Scrolls games.Would it be possible? What would I have to cut down?
>>12368231I do want 3DS or GameCube port of Star Wars: Republic Commando
>>12363594Fat Moot in Super Epstien Land.
>>12367819The best ones are the DiGiCharat sprite swap with the 2nd Quest level hack for vanilla SmB2, the hack that recreates the SNES style ost with some minor additions, the SMB Super Show hack and the SMB2- one.Two of them are just sprite swaps.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VefhKWlrio0https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rY9-OYU_7hMhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd9aqUdyRdAhttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jfRLsv-RGmE&

I want to play some SMW romhacks, I intend to play A plumber for all seasons and SMW 30th anniversary edition, give me another 3 or so to play. Please no kaizo shit, something which is about in line with the normal game's difficulty.
