what will you do once every retro console and crt is dead beyond repair?
>>12342458kill myself
>>12342458Continue decomposing
>>12342458Emulate. Oh wait I already do that.
MTBF, anything that was likely to die already died. But this is another seething thread by somebody who completely missed the retro boat.I was buying Pokemon Crystal for $5 back when you were drooling on an iPad, zoomie OP.
>>12342458probably have intense nigga sex with all the time saved not repairing them
>>12342458you realize nobody here will live to see that happen right?
>>12342458End the universe
>>12342458I'll be dead because realistically speaking that's not happening until 80-100 years from now, and even then that would be insanely quick for all of them to break down.
>>12342493that's quite naive of you. much sooner than 80-100 years.t. electrical engineer
>>12342458Nod, satisfied.
>>12342496It depends. Playstation 2s dont use thermal paste, just a bunch of thermal pads and tiny annoying fucking fuses.
>>12342505Some of those pads go dry and turn to little bricks, only seen it on smaller ICs. The big pad for the ee/gs is always healthy.
>>12342484how does nigga sex differ from regular sex?
>>12342508Still not an insanely difficult fix
>>12342458continue emulating
>>12342519I agree, just sharing my experience.
>>12342514Nobody knows. Every time someone explains it, another CRT dies.
>>12342458Be dust? Anon, CRTs are going to outlast us.
>>12342458I have a 27" Sony Trinitron ProFeel CRT TV, a 14" Sony Trinitron PVM CRT, and a 21" ViewSonic PC CRT Monitor. I even gifted my nephew a 17" Dell PC CRT Monitor (made in China) that I bought years ago as a "back up" since I realised my other CRTs are built like tanks. I also have multiples of certain consoles (PS1, PS2, PS3, OG Xbox, Wii, etc) since I realised they're good to have around even just for spare parts.
>>12342458continue playing on FPGA on my QRT
>>12342458just build new ones>b-b-b-butYou can already 3d print a car OP in the future remaking old tech using new tech will be easy... too easy actually....
>>12342458Me and everyone I know will be long dead by the time that happens.
>>12342458Keep emulating, not my problem.
>>12342514Nigga (negro) sex, intense or not, is when there is a BBC involved. Not the British broadcasting channel.
>>12343292Correct. This was first observed in 1997 during the transitional era between VGA and composite. Notice the clenched fist and confident pointing. Classic indicators. Amateur viewers miss this.
>>12343051>the future>here's your retro pcb and chip printer bro>you can rent it for for limited time>premium plan for more featuresth-thank you Mr. Goldberg...
>>12342481>he paid money for pokemon I had people give me their carts for free.
>>12342496You are a shitty electrical engineer then if you think that.
>>12343678Explain how capacitors have 80-100 years left in them when they are failing in consoles south of 30 years old then
>>12344493Nta, but caps sometimes re-power themselves.
>>12342458Be dead for like 100 years
>>12344493the premise is when console are no longer beyond repair, replacing dead capacitors a simple repair job
>>12344556those in my ps1 power supply clearly don't
>>12344937That's what you get for not believing in them.
>>12342496Old electronics can still be repaired. By the time people stop making replacement parts and all of those parts stop working, plus 90% of working original systems are unaccounted for we'll all be long dead. Same for CRTs (as long as the tube itself is good because admittedly those are next to impossible to replace even now).
>>12342481>Crystal carts sell for $175 nowjesus fuck, i even have one of these and I think this is retarded
>>12344937Use more power.
>>12345053theyre worse than aftermarket cartridges at this point too. i dont mean the cheap shitty chink ones. you can get the bennvenn mbc3000 for like 30 dollars, inside gadgets sells one also and they use fram for the saves so they dont get lost when the battery dies
not likely but i wonder if we get to a point where cpus start dying and people make drop in replacements either using fpga or emulation on a micro controller or something
If I believed psyopers, I would have sold all my childhood stuff 10 years ago, because supposedly "the bubble gonna pop soon" and "your games and consoles are gonna break in 5 years"Value has only gone up in time, and everything still works
>>12342458I'll do exactly what I do currently, emulate with CRT shaders.
>>12345053>>12345762very true, Johto games aren't worth more than single figure digits
>>12345762>worseYes imagine going up to some boomer and whipping out a brand new perfect reproduction of the Mickey Mantle rookie baseball card and saying "See this you fuckin' boomer? This is BETTER than your old ratty rotting cardboard!"Imagine doing that and expecting horks and cheers... that's not how it works on 4chan. Nobody is saying you shouldn't emulate or use flash carts or an FPGA recration or anything here. Nobody gives a fuck. The problems start when snide thirdies and zoomers sidle up and say absolutely retarded nonsense and expect a pat on the head an a participation trophy.
>>12346923its a game cartridge not a collectors item kek, people treating games like baseball cards and putting them on shelves are retarded, i love pokemon have most the the ds games even soul silver which was stupid expensive but i wanted a dedicated cart over my flashcart and a couple gba ones but for gb/gbc the aftermarket cartridges are just better now
>>12346198That looks pretty good ngl.
>>12346936>its a game cartridge not a collectors itemWrong, it's a collector's item, not a game cartridge. People aren't even re-celling these. They are Pokemon cards now. Baseball cards. Coins, stamps. You've got it all wrong. Everybody already knows you can emulate on your phone, or computer, or get a flash cart or a Chinese handheld... that's old hat. People are buying these specifically because they are now collector's items. That's the breaks. You missed out and you won't pay today's market value. And you probably won't pay in a year when Pokemon Crystal is $250 and not a mere $175. And that's fine you can totally "play" Pokemon Crystal on a Chinese emulation handheld, nobody cares.
Also the next thing is PSP. PSP is based and probably the peak handheld of all time. It has an optical drive, so it has soul. It has movies. It can be used to emulate and run homebrew. You can turn off the Wifi (that's soulful) and it takes the soulful and now, for the time being, dirt cheap Memory Sticks. It's rugged, has a replaceable battery, it's perfect. PSP-3000 specifically is the peak of all handhelds and it's been just phones since then. That's not soulful. So, there's still time. You might not like PSP but the smart money is on PSP now. It has most of the old classic soulful games, a bunch of soulful new-enough games to keep people busy. If you have a PS3, you can set it up above your TV and play Gran Turismo and it will become the rear view mirror! That's based.Anyway it's too late for the other stuff, you missed the party. I just got a big hard case that holds 40 UMDs and it came jammed full of MOVIES AND MUSIC VIDEOS lol. Neat! Somebody actually bought UMD videos, I never thought anybody would because PSP natively supported MP4 playback and you could just rip and encode your own movies and store them on the memory stick.
>>12346963i cant tell if youre baiting or what. why are you so mad at hearing rtc flashcarts are better than the official crystal board they use fram for the saves so the saves wont just dissapear. id much rather have a cartridge where my pokemon wont just dissapear while its sitting around until i decide to pick up the game again>And that's fine you can totally "play" Pokemon Crystal on a Chinese emulation handheld, nobody cares.emulation handhelds are inferior to a real gameboy because they dont work with cartridges or link cables etc etc
>>12342458They will have solved the crt issue after I'm dead. FPGA + G-Sync Pulsar 3 CRT simulation
>>12346982That's already got some enthusiasts. I think the console is fucking awful, UMDs could've been good if they didn't rattle and wheeze inside the thing. The boxes are amazing size though - I think they're the same size as Switch? Absolutely perfect size. After I stopped playing PSP I was still wanting to hold onto my games cause the boxes are so niceI don't think PSP will be very collectable though. Maybe a little, but the games on that console don't have the status of early Playstation. You got some ports of PS1 games, and those do have a lot of status, but that's about it I think. It's only PS1, PS2, and Nintendo that has collector autism power. Also Dreamcast and MD to a lesser degree. The rest don't. No one will ever give a shit to collect Xbox, for example>>12346998>why are you so madCause he's a coomlector and you just told him his shit is inferior kek
>>12347076>I think the console is fucking awfulThe format is fucking awful*The console is fine. Great even. But it's also in that handheld tier of which there are dozens of such consoles now, that look exactly like the PSP and can run its games, too.
>>12347076i think pstv/vita is a better system for the psp games they have native psp support because there is a psp cpu on the soc you get a better looking screen and some games even have patches for dual analog support, umds are cool tho
>>12347085Oh yeah that's also true. Anyone wanting to collect PSP can also get a Vita or PSTV which means the hardware will never get that expensive. If anything it might be the Vita getting expensive. But realistically neither one will because once you go past PS2 the "golden age" is over and collectibility goes down by a ton. Some people think zoomers and gen alphas will become coomlectors but I honestly don't think that will happen much.
>>12347089>If anything it might be the Vita getting expensivevita already costs more than psp
>>12342458I'm working on getting like 5 backups of each console and CRT. That should last me for the rest of my life.
>>12346998>i cant tell if youre baiting or whatI'm not.>why are you so madNobody's mad but you, I'm assuming you're the OP until proven otherwise, we get these threads all the time from thirdies and zoomers who didn't buy any retro vidya when it was dirt cheap. Nobody gives a shit if you emulate, really. Or do whatever.>>12347076>if they didn't rattleWhy is this a problem, they are on the spindle in the drive.>I don't think PSP will be very collectable though.Shit's already skyrocketing in prices, you're literally missing the big moves right now. >he's a coomlectorNo, I just throw all this stuff in a box. I don't even like Pokemon Crystal. I just bought it up cheap because I knew it'd get expensive. Hoarder.
>>12342458i know this thread is for people who actually collect and give a shit about the longevity of things that can and will decay, but i just wanna say, things will be ok, bros. no need to despair over materialistic things. it is your spirit that breathes the true life into retro, and its discussion.
>>12342458Why would I give a fucking shit about plastic crap? Take that garbage to >>>/toy/, this board is for discussing retro games, not useless collector fetish crap.
