Personally I could never bring myself to beat it. It's definitely a good game but whenever I give it a go I just end up wishing I was playing something like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs instead. A lot of games that came after are just way better but for some reason this one seems the most popular.

Final Fight is fine, but i don't know. I like Turtles In Time. Especially with the romhack that increases boss HP and behavior.

There's pic related too, it's quite unique and has some interesting mechanics
>>
Do they? I think most people like FF3, SoR trilogy, Punisher, C&D, AvP, and Turtles in Time more. Final Fight is easily the best one of the 80s, at least compared to crap like Renegade and Dynamite Dux
>>
>A lot of games that came after are just way better but for some reason this one seems the most popular.
The same could be said for early Megaman games
>>

crazy that punisher and c&d aren't in that retro beat em up pack capcom released for steam
>>
>>12348809
Your words are as empty as your soul
>>
>>12348785
Final Fight has always been overrated, but more to the point, I like the game, but rarely do I bother going past level 2. I just want nostalgia. And going past level 2 isn't what usually happened in the arcade.
>>
>>12348823
Punisher came back for the Marvel VS Capcom Legacy Collection, the other licenses were, and are SOL at the moment. I don't think they'll try it again with Disney for AvsP and I don't know who's the owner of the Xenozoic Tales IP.
>>
>>12348785
The game is so dry and boring. Streets of Rage 2 just oozes character and style, easy to get into, but very high skill ceiling.

I don't really care for any of the Capcom beat em ups, they always just felt like the poster child of cheap, bullshit, low-effort quarter muncher that you just mindlessly mash buttons.

People grow up with a certain game and it becomes their comfort food.

Because it's the most popular one
>>
>>12349059
C&D is pretty easy, I only ever had issues with the boomerang guy.
>>
Anyone knows how I can play old beat em ups with friends online?
>>
>>12348785
Great question and here is a video explaining it fyi. I just happened to discover it today!

Fightcade is best and free, or the Capcom belt scroller collection on steam
>>
>>12350124
I thought fightcade was just for fighting games. Anyway, thanks, anon.
>>
>>12350138
I play beat em ups there with random guys from Korea/Japan
>>
>>12350119
Based, Final Fight, like all good arcade games, has no mechanics because they're a crutch
>>
>>12350119
He's not wrong, a game with fewer mechanics has to do more with said mechanics, which means it needs to have more interesting design.
Just bolting on more mechanics is lazy design, but I'm guessing a lot of people probably think Final Fight would be better if it had parries and juggles.
>>
>>12350313
Mark is quite literally never wrong, even when he might be literally, objectively, factually wrong, he isn't, he's just that good
>>
>>12350313
Shitters complain about FF being "too simple" yet they don't even know about core mechanics like the combo-to-throw cancel or backward jumps, it's just shitter being shitters as usual
>>
>>12348785
it became the standard bearer and basically wrote the book on fun beat 'em ups. I love double dragon, but ff made it brighter, louder, easier to control and overall a more fun experience. everything else had to be compared to it. it was an arcade smash. you had to be there
>>
>>12350119
>mechanics are a crutch!
>but autofire isn't lol
ffs in the first 5 seconds of the video you can see him punching super fast like Goku lol
>>
>>12348785
I don't think they do. It's usually Streets of Rage 2 that gets called that.
>>
>>12348805
Hey, don't talk shit about Dynamite Dux!
Just kidding, it's a pretty weak game but to this day I have fond memories as it was one of the first games I completed as a kid on SMS
>>
>>12348785
Because it's still cooler than any similarly set beat em up that copies it, like Streets of Rage or Violent Storm.
Gameplay wise, it also still stands apart due to the number of enemies on screen. C&D is boring by comparison.
>>
>>12348785
the art and size of the characters was amazing when it came out, also the bonus round smashing up the car is iconic.
>>
>>12348785
massive on screen enemy count + every enemy type having very distinct patterns and attacks, all acting simultaneously
cant think of any other beat em up that matches that, even by capcom
>>
>>12350643
The debate rages on
>>
>>12348785
Before that game a lot of beat em ups weren't as cohesive. I don't think it is flawless but it brought a lot of design ideas to the table that almost every other major 2d beat em up ended up copying.
I like The Punisher, SoR2 and Cadillacs more but FF1's influence cannot be denied.
I think the only other great 2d beat em up that feels different is Ninja Warriors for the SNES.
>>
One of the things I'm always bringing up about FF that I almost never see talked about is just how it FEELS. The way you interact with enemies, attacking them, being attacked by them, getting holds on them, all that. It felt so different from everything that came before it. There was solidity and a sort of "meatiness" or "crunchiness" probably helped a lot by the sound effects but not just those. It actually felt like everyone was a wall of muscle and bone breaking each other apart. And almost every beat em up that came after had a similar feel although not always to the same extent. Whereas every beat em up that came before felt like two ghosts swinging on each other underwater.
>>
>>12353064
No it doesn't, they're both good.
>>
>>12348785
Its less about it being the , and more about it being probably the most important brawler of it's era and it single highhandedly reforming the genre where basically you can slice up 2d brawlers and pre and post Final Fight.
While it's gameplay is solid yet overrated, it can't be understanded how much of an impact it had on brawlers, almost everything borrowed gameplay designs from it since.
>>
>>12355329
Final Fight is the OG, cope.
>>
>>12356901
I don't care what you believe.
>>
>>12354782
>I think the only other great 2d beat em up that feels different is Ninja Warriors for the SNES.
Even that game is basically single-plane final fight in many ways. Capcom's sword games and Armored warriors are the most distinct from FF
>>
>>12354991
It's basically the SF2 of beat em ups but since most shitters don't play the games properly they don't realize how important it was
>>
>>12357826
Exactly and SF2 had the same thing I'm talking about but for fighting games, that same solidness when it comes to making contact while the few fighting games that existed before it felt airy.
>>
>>12357454
You clearly do
