What's their best game?
>>
I really like Alien Soldier, Gunstar Heroes, S&P, Mischief Makers, RSG...
But I gotta say, after finally playing for score to this, it's this
>>
>>12349013
Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, and Dynamite Headdy all range from junk to decent from what I've played.

Sin & Punishment and its sequel are absolutely fantastic though. Not sure what happened there for them to pull their heads out of their asses and develop an actually great game for once.
>>
>>12349032
This series, but the third entry.
>>
Alien Soldier > Radiant Silvergun > Sin & Punishment > the rest
>>
>>12349065
Alien Soldier's controls are a crime against humanity, and even once you get them down it's just spamming i-frames and broken moves to oneshot bosses. Not to mention the complete braindead padding of farming infinite trashmobs for HP between each bossfight.
>>
Buster Busts Loose, Castlevania Bloodlines, Rocket Knight Adventures, Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa
>>
>>12349013
>>
5: Mischief Makers
4: Gunstar heroes
3: Gradius V
2: Radiant Silvergun
1: S&P
>>
>>12349076
Since when did they work on any of these?
>>
It's Sin and punishment

The best rail shooter of all time
>>
>>12349013
their best game is not retro as per the rules of this board, but it's within a retro series, Bangai-O
>>
5. Bangai-O
4. Mischief Makers
3. Sin and Punishment
2. Ikaruga
1. Radiant Silvergun

But Alien Solider, Dynamite Headdy, Gunstar Heroes and McDonaldland are all really good too. I couldn’t get into Wario World, Rakugaki Showtime or Yu Yu Hakusho. Sillouette Mirage and Light Crusader are just ok.

I’m not really always fan of the Treasure aesthetic. Their storylines are the most convoluted garbage. I still don’t know what’s really going on in Sin and Punisment or Radiant Silvergun. I have no idea what’s going on with the flower or anything really (but especially flower woman) in Bangai-O.

That said, their games are always well made, fun and great to play for score, with high skill ceilings. S-tiers in Mischief Maker seems impossible on almost every level. Radiant Silvergun is an ordeal, but I’ve gotten pretty good, its cool because strategy and planning can actually help a little more than other shmups.

Someone's finally said it. Alien Soldier is way overrated.

Unironically and not as a meme: filtered

Bangai O has a shitty garbage translation that makes no sense. If you can read the original japanese dialogue it is quite funny. The N64 and DC versions have different dialogue also.

The biggest challenge in an action game should never be the controls. Alien Soldier has the worst, least intuitive controls of all time. The 6 button romhack helps a lot, but even then it's still pretty bad, so that's saying a lot when you only have half that amount. Baffling they never implemented a 6 button layout, but regardless, it literally feels like some alien race with no concept of how an action game should play made the controls.

>>12349507
Oh fuck off, you're that whining autistic bitch who copy+pastes this same pathetic cope argument over and over, and you get clowned on every single time. Rethink your life faggot.
>>
>>12349513
I'm glad I live rent-free in your head. Which no clears shitter are you again?
>>
Alien Soldier was too ambitious for its own good. It's clear the director gave no fucks about what everybody thought about it, only what he wanted to do with it.

>Alien Soldier has the worst, least intuitive controls of all time
There is an entire genre of slop with unplayable dogshit controls that cause you to fuck up if your input is one frame off
>>
>>12349592
Yeah and I don't play that slop nor do I want that slop in my action games.
>>
sin and punishment for the Nintendo 64
>>

Just play the Saturn version first if you haven't already. It has a fan translation patch available. If you already like the fan translated Saturn version, then you can play the PS1 version for a bit of extra content and unlockable goodies. If you're already familiar with the game then you probably won't have issues adapting to the PS1 version's balance changes.

When you play the PS1 version, maybe skip through Working Designs' cringy dialogue. It's poorly-written fanfiction that scrubs the game's religious themes and throws out constant childish gross-out humor. Arguably one of their worst script localizations, which says a lot. In my opinion this is the worst part about the PS1 version.

Additionally, Working Designs have rebalanced the PS1 version around you ALREADY knowing some secret weapon locations. They made every weapon worse across the board, except for one secret weapon early on in the game, heavily incentivizing its use. In the Saturn version, you would normally have to grind money to afford this weapon, but Working Designs reduced the price and let you have it immediately. So overall, it's a bit of good and a bit of bad.
Personally I'm a bit mixed on the balance changes, because truthfully, Silhouette Mirage is not a very well-balanced game either way. The crazy polarity concept and the fact that the game plays it completely straight, regardless of balance, is what's cool about it.

>Alien Soldier's controls are a crime against humanity
The director had plenty of opportunity to include 6-Button support, but he stubbornly refused because it "didn't fit his vision" or some kind of ego-fueled conceit.

sounds like a skill or low IQ issue
or you are used to eating shit daily as part of your gaming diet, tell us what rpgs you are deep into

I don't really play jarpigs, Trashure just doesn't make good action games.
>>
>>12351215
>Trashure
Not the anon you're arguing with, but you are a spamming no-life freak

Guardian Heroes is their best game.

It's value as an entertainment package is unparalleled, there is a six player versus mode with something like sixty to a hundred collectible, playable combatants ranging from blobs to heroes with a wide move set to screen filling demigods.

Then you have the main game with co-op or solo play, plane switching, hundreds of huge scaling and rotating sprites on screen, TRANSPARENCIES, a roster of playable characters with widely different styles (including a healer! a healer in a side scrolling beat em up) branching paths, a great story, anime cut scenes, and multiple endings, plus of course ARPG elements as you can use xp to level up character attributes adding a shit tonne to replayability,

The music absolutely SLAPS (yellow magic orchestra!!!)

sadly as a Saturn near-exclusive few have played it
>>
>>12351017
>tell us what rpgs you are deep into
Not a single person mentioned RPGs. Are you mentally ill? Where does this mindbroken schizo obsession with hating RPGs come from?
>>
>>12351437
>Guardian Heroes is their best game

Shame that the gameplay suck ass
>>
For me, it's Mischief Makers. It has everything I love in a good game.
>imaginative and fantastical world
>easy to learn, hard to master mechanics/movement
>timing/scoring for replayability and pursuit of improvement/perfection
>amazing music
>good level/boss design, no two worlds/bosses are the same
>collectathon that rewards exploration/memorization
I still have my copy but I'm still mad it isn't on NSO for some ungodly reason when S&P is. And I like S&P but I never liked how there's no real co-op between the two characters.

Guardian Heroes would be my second behind MM. Similar to MM I'm puzzled why it hasn't been ported from XBox to Switch when Radiant Silvergun has already been. It's probably my favorite beatemup and yet it seems cursed to stay stuck on failed/dead systems.

Honorable mention to Dynamite Headdy because it was my first Treasure game ever as a kid and I loved it, before I paid attention to studios/devs.

Nintendo owns the rights to S&P, but Mischief Makers is allegedly in copyright hell because of Squeenix
