Crash 3's secrets are the absolute fucking worst and I am seething

You do not need to 100% games
>>
>>12349731
>You don't need to finish the whole book
>You don't need to watch the whole movie
>>
>>12349734
The video game equivalent to those is reaching the end and seeing the credits, not 100% completion
>>
>>12349734
Not a good analogy. 100%ing a movie would be watching all the bonus material on the blu ray. Not sure what the equivalent would be for a book, maybe owning both a hardcover and paperback version? Or reading the author's notes.
>>
>>12349734
you're right, you don't. Skipping boring shit in movies is a good thing

I swear this is a modern thing. Nobody cared about achievements or completion until they all did.
>>
>>12350845
High scores in arcades are the old equivalent and people loved that shit.
>>
>>12349734
>mostly reasonable objective that gives you a reason to be more skillful in the regular gameplay
>recognition is gated behind a few gimmicky secrets you're unlikely to ever organically discover
I kind of get the angst, it's a fun thing to pursue until you reach a massive spike in obscurity that will require a bunch of repetition and dead ends.
>>
I just 100% Crash 1 and on to Crash 2. How are the secrets in 2 compared to 1? Is it full of bullshit like having to get a gem at end game to be able 100% early levels like in 1?
Or does it actually reward keen eyes and exploring?

The secrets in 2 are pretty reasonable, with the sole exception of a level having an invisible wall. The colored gems are distributed pretty evenly throughout the game unlike in 1, if I remember right you can already get 3 by the second warp room.
>>
>>12351875
The fake wall at least has a hint: there's a huge amount of nitro there so the intent is that a player goes "huh, but why the nitro all in this one spot?
>>
>>12349734
More like you dont need to read every ending in a choose your own adventure book or see the deleted endings from a film.
>>
Why can't Metroid crawl?
>>
>>12350845
I 100% completed Crash and Spyro games when I was a kid.
>>
>>12349734
All I want in life is to have conversations with like-minded individuals far away from this person.
>>
If you think those two secrets were bad, boy you didn't play Crash 2.

>>12351875
>reasonable
The absolute worst is the red gem one. You have to go to that stage with the carnivore plants and body slam a lone carnivore plant that is on a separate platform. Mind you, the game taught you that the only way to kill them was to dig under them and spin. If you jumped or spun on every other plant, it would just hurt you.

1. That secret has nothing to do with the red gem.
2. You can also kill every other plant with a body slam.

Crash 2 is fun for being really flexible and easy to exploit. There's just enough skill to the exploits to the point it feels like naughty dog knew about it and didn't want to cripple it but also wanted to make it seem things were impossible for more casual players while for experts it's possible to do all sorts of maneuvers.

There's one death route in Crash 2 where the crates are arranged in the shape of a middle finger, how nice of the developers. Play it.
>>
>>12349734
This is the most correct take that has ever been posted on this website and all game developers should be legally required to put it at the forefront of their design
>>
>>12350845
Then why did old games track percentage of completion?
>>
>>12351901
>>12351875
Which lev had the invisible wal
>>
>>12352427
Wasn't there a jazz jackrabbit level that spelled out FUCK YOU or something?
>>
>>12352561
One of those inside a sewer. There are those big circular doors that are closed, and you can go through one of them.
>>
crash 3 and crash 1 isnt very good
>>
>>12350502
you eat books?
>>
Always loved the secrets in Crash 2. They're hinted just enough that's not too hard to find them, but you still feel a sense of accomplishment for figuring them out. In Crash 3 they're either too obvious or virtually impossible to find without a guide.
>>
>>12352961
They look like books to you?
>>
We didn't need 4 bike levels and 4 jet ski levels.
still a great game though.
>>
>>12353013
There are only 2 secrets in Crash 3.
The alien sign and the pterodactyl in Dino Might.
In Crash 2, every colored gem is behind a secret. So, 5 secrets. Of the 5 secrets, only one is rather obtuse, the one where you have to belly slam the plant. All other 4 have at least a hint.
>>
>>12353402
also having an Egyptian theme and a bazaar theme was kind of weak variety, too similar for only 5 worlds.
>>
>>12352961
Yeah, I'm a real bookworm, anon
>>
>>12353443
>only one is rather obtuse, the one where you have to belly slam the plant
It's really not, the plant is on a solitary platform that looks conspicuous since you'd have no reason to go there.
>>
>>12350983
yeah but that was different, in the same wheelhouse but different. you could unplug the cabinet to wipe scores, and usually the developers would only give you two or three characters. enough for initials, and some creative cursing.

modern achievements are more like social media.
>>
>>12353402
we didnt need underwater levels*
>>
The alien sign is understandable, the secret pterodactil is the most bullshit thing ever made.

I 100%d the trilogy a few years ago and I had to look up a guide only twice. One for the gem in pic related and again for the red gem in that snow level in 2.
