Before getting scrapped, the later builds of Xtreme would actually switch between two different engines: one developed for stages (with the fisheye lens), and a different one made for boss arenas (as seen in the video). The video is showing an early version of what would have been a boss against Metal Sonic.

It's kind of like how the Saturn port of 3D Blast used different engines between the isometric stages and the 3D special stages.
