Currently trying to get it,can i train on these games?
>>
Kinda but using annactual car wheel and pedals is different than a video game controller.
Also does anyone even use manual gearshift in GT games?

>even use manual gearshift in GT games?
Why wouldn't I? Not like I would touch autotragics in real life either.
>>

GT4 came out before I got my license. Yes I played it in manual with assists off as a kid for hours on end. 20+ yrs of irl driving later I've never had an automatic and drive a RWD manual that doesn't even have ABS. And yes, I still play GT4 (and all racing games, even arcade racers) in manual with assists off. Not joking.
But no, it will not teach you how to drive a car on public streets and follow the rules of the road.
It may, at best, teach you to recognize understeer and prevent yourself from dying by crashing into a tree if you drive past the traction limit, which OP absolutely should not be doing on public streets anyway.
So, no, it won't help.

not retro but there's a game called like city car driving that's good practice

The only retro game i can think of to practice road driving is like gta sa and just follow the laws
>>
>>12353032
People who play driving games typically do better on driving tests than people who don't.

>city car driving

OP here, that look interesting,i only have normals controllers tough,do the analogue shoulder buttons work like the pedals and the right analogue stick for gearshift?
>>
>>12353090
I think you're doing a bit but I'll play along.
Me, I use R2/L2 for accel / brake and R1/L1 for shifting.
>>
>>12353032
Going fast around a circuit has nothing to do with real life driving in traffic. Plus it won't teach you anything about learning how to use manual shifting in case you live in a country that requires so
>>
Not retro but Mafia 2. You sure won't run out of cops watching your very fucking move on the road.
>>
>>12353032
No, they are racing games not city driving games. There's a modern sim for that which is okay
>>12353090
Just buy an used driving force gt
>>

You must be at least 18 yeaes old to post here
>>
>>12353492
In most of the world you have to be 18 to drive. He spelled analog "analogue" so probably a commonwealth nation like India which also has 18 as the earliest driving age.
>>
Will it make you a better race driver, yes. If you have a need for speed it will make you a worse city driver. The trucker and taxi games on PCs make more sense. You dont want to be like a BMW driver IRL or someone that flipped their WRX.

I'm spaniard
>>
My country collectively decided that automatic is for fags and manual is for real men.
I don't get it, gear shifting is not hard and also what's "manly" about constantly touching a phalus?

The SCS truck simulators are a lot nicer and actually fun on their own as games.
Still won't prepare you for the real thing, best they can do is show how it feels to disassociate on the highway for 2 hours

I learned to parallel park in GTA as a young lad

You really do have a lot more control in a manual, there are all sorts of little tricks. Also it's just plain fun, always has been. I'm not telling you to drive one, you don't know what you're talking about but act all high and mighty about it.
More importantly a LOT of cars are totalled because automatics have wear parts that tend to go after 100-150k on many cars (but not all) and usually requires a $4-8k replacement job and people just scrap the old one and get a new car.
In a manual you just pop in a new clutch for $1k tops, mine has 140k on it and still grips like a college girl.

It's a disgrace how manufacturers are fitting cars with all kinds of stuff that makes them a pain to maintain, even headlights now cost several thousands to replace on modern cars. Give me simplicity, but the world is too far gone for that
>>
>>12355330
>there are all sorts of little tricks.
NTA but what kind of tricks?
I've been playing GT4 and everywhere online they say automatic is useless
>>
>>12355374
There are lots but here's an extreme and mildly insane example. One type of clutch kick.
>RWD manual car
>You entered the corner too hot at a bad angle, front tires lost grip so no steering or braking.
>There are trees ahead and your car is ploughing straight
>Mash the throttle and kick the clutch to rev to where there's power and dump the clutch, you can do this in milliseconds
>High powered clutch dump shocks the rear tires with impulse force and they spin, allowing the car to rotate into a power slide that vectors the car back into the turn
>>
>>12355374
are you going to be a car guy? is that a hobby you want to take seriously? if you just want a point A to B car you don't have any business driving a manual. you're just going to end up wearing out the clutch.
>>
why aren't semi-automatic sequential shifters more common on road cars, when they seem to be very common on race cars? Are there few benefits if you don't need to go very fast?
>>
>>12354076
Euro Truck Simulator (not retro) is great. It feels a bit like playing Elite, or similar space traders, but on highways and more chill (or more boring if you will) since there's no space pirates hounding you.
>>
>>12355368
it's a government law they be complex. emissions, safety, fed spyware. if car companies had their way shit like windows and seatbelts would be optional extras.
>>
>>12353032
Not really but it couldn't hurt. But your drivers test is gonna be more k turns than 1000 meter sprints to brake fast
>Also
18+ website

cheaper to manufacture
