What's with the Japanese obsession of sitting so close to the television? I've always been annoyed how controllers on Japanese consoles are so short and you practically have to play with the system right in your lap to actually use them. I would have absolutely despised the NES if we had gotten a version similar to the original Famicom
>>
I had a Sony Trinitron that I got as a Christmas present alongside Majora's Mask but I ended up giving it to my friends fuck up stepsister over a decade ago so her kids could watch something.
>>

widescreen for wide n64.
poetic.
>>
>Hmmm yes loads of latency and forced widescreen for 4:3 games
Truly the master race. Honorary Aryans, everyone!
>>
>>12355879
They can hoard mangas.they definitely have room for a CRT TV.
>>
>>12355896
On the contrary, why do you sit so far away from it? What they do is the far more natural position, and I bet you are reflecting it as you read this by sitting right in front of your computer monitor. Not sure what the whole sitting on the floor thing is about, though.
>>
>>12355864
Emuchads with CRT filters are playing games with more soul than Japanese men with the authentic plastic.
You know the only reason he's using old plastic is because the Emulation Police in Japan are hardcore and will bust his balls.
Fucking lmao coomlectors.
>>
>>12355921
Only reason he is using old plastic is because it's cheap and plentiful in their country, while you on the other hand can only cope with inauthentic alternatives.
>>

Nta, but as long as it's the uncorrupted dump of the original ROM, it doesn't matter if the "shell" is an original cartridge (unless you care about monetary value, but that's another ballgame) or if it's inside an SD card or hard drive; the code is still inside something physical.
>>
>>12356093
Composite isn't really that bad, RF is what's the shittiest.
>>
>>12355916
I don't know, but it's the message that pops up at the start of every episode of Gintama.
"Be sure to sit far away from the TV and watch in a well lit room"
>>
>>12356117
RF is the soulfulest. I really play my old games that way because why stop with the CRT if I'm going for more or less how I played in the 80s?
The ghosting effect makes it a more organic experience and I'm not even kidding.
>>
>>12356125
Eh, I used RF with my SNES and I think something my NES a lot in the early 90s but the second I could use composite I pretty much never went back lol. It's just such a pain in the ass to even deal with the connector and coax cable can suck my fat cock literally in the top category of worst connector of all time.
>>
>>12356130
It is true that the coaxial connectors on some TVs can be a bitch. I draw the line with the N64, but I don't even know if that can be hooked up with an RF switch.
Btw, you'd assume by setup was with composite by pics alone.
>>
>>12355921
CRT filters are grotesque, more so than whatever those japs are doing.
>>
>>12355864
So? I don't give a fuck how some Japanese dumbass plays his shit.
>>
>>12356130
>coax cable can suck my fat cock literally in the top category of worst connector of all time.
i really hated how many TVs had that connector in a recessed little pocket so you couldn't properly grip it when screwing it on either

>>12356136

actually, there was RF adapter well into the late 90's still being sold. I have these 2, which just take the composite/sound signals and just shove them into a single cable for coaxial
as you can imagine, the image is terrible, but at least it works better than the old RF console outputs
>>
>>12356170
I didn't expect that.
>>
>>12356136
Yeah the N64 shipped with composite so if you needed RF it was because you had a lower end TV but they no longer provided it.

>>12356156
I'm pretty sure a large portion of my finger grip strength and callus' are just my youth dealings with coaxial cables. Because of course not only was I fiddling with my own shit at home and stuff all the time but I was the resident computer and TV fixer for the entire extended family so almost always when I traveled places it was "Hey the input doesn't work on the TV for whatever yadda yadda". Even flatscreens at the beginning were pretty retarded with connections but they eventually learned and put that shit on the side. Although fancy TVs always had external boxes which are the best.

this but unironically. for years I only have ever had the RF adapters it wasn't until like 2000 when I started using composite.

now on duck station I have a mild shader that reminds me of what that RF ghosting used to look like (CRT newpixie) while I have the internal resolution upscaled 8x to over 2k for my Mac retina screen. It looks glorious
>>
>>12355864

>>
>>12356187
when I got an n64 I was like 7 so I dont remember hooking it up but I do distinctly remember having to go to meijers or Best Buy with my mom to find the adapter block to use the RF switch and everything up until I got a psOne in 2000 used RF. SNES and Genesis, n64

My eyes can no longer handle CRT imagery. I had to switch to modern screens.
>>
>>12356282
that only talks about how stupid you are.
old flat panels have no exaggerated input lag because they don't do post processing like newer (and by newer i mean like 2016 onward, maybe a little earlier) tv's do.
and if you have a tv with that crap, you turn on game mode or whatever they call it on your specific tv to get rid of it and have 1 to 0 frames of lag.
>>

now that looks truly terrible. so many black lines and native resolution. yikes!

Who would even care what people use? Obviously retailers and panel makers. But that's about it. Anybody who talks shit about CRTs is a shill, the proof is in the pudding. Nobody would care unless they were a shill.

Always do the opposite of what shills want.

>modeling yourself after Japanese coomlectors
lol. Even a lot of the big tymer Japanese collectors are pretty clueless, regardless of their collection size and scope. Tricked by obvious bootlegs, "uuoooohhh"ing over popping their few of a kind cartridge into a Nippified Retron 5 hooked up to an LCD, not even understanding basic details of what they collect, you name it. Basically, imagine if your average western Redditor normalfag had easy access to plentiful r@rities, and you have your average Japanese "elite" collector.

I bought a Sony Cinema LCD panel a while back, it is a two part deal, one rack mount piece which apparently handles most of the work, then the panel which plugs into the rack. It takes various cards, I got a loaded one with VGA, HDMI, and component inputs (BNC) as well as composite and S-Video. It handles all the conversion for the panel, which is 1280x1024 or 2xNTSC. It will down-convert FHD to its native rez. It has LED-zone backlit technology. This type of panel was only a thing for a couple years but it was their "movie production" grade monitor, which is a step up from broadcast. It handles even weird NTSC modes, I have no idea how. Beautiful thing. I forget the panel designation and have it mounted flat on the wall, I can't remove it easily. But the rack unit is the MEU-WX2. I think my panel is 27"? Might be 24".

Unironically this. CRTs are too cost prohibiting, they occupy more space than a modern Movie Production PC. And yes, they are heavy and can melt bamboo stalk and rice paper. xDDD kidding fellow Asians of the Nippon Persuasion, you are cool among the cool.

>>
>>12356790
Yeah I hear ya, I have a number of CRTs and my main TV is a plasma screen. Still the best. But this LCD is absolutely stunning and it can handle weird inputs and modes with ease. My main (plasma) TV can't do 240p for whatever reason, half the time it works, half the time it chokes. It is LITERALLY up to the individual software title for some weird reason.
