I just beat the entire NES Mega Man hexalogy on original hardware over this past week.4>3>1>2>6>51 - I don't know why people hate this one. I prefer the 6 robot masters, just feels less bloated and each weapon has more of a niche. I also prefer the greater focus on platforming in stages, and it's the most pure experience as it has no bullshit e-tanks, upgrades, slide, charge shot, so feels better balanced. It feels a bit stiff but has a rough charm to it.2 - A very rushed and janky game with nonsensical level design, enemies have massive health pools, and the weapon/combat balance is the worst in the series by far; metal blades are insanely OP, good against every boss, massive hitbox, high damage, high fire rate, can shoot in any direction, and barely even use any energy. However if you don't use them it's the hardest and most bullshit entry by far.3 - some of the most fun levels, great soundtrack, and I loved the remixed stages, but it is clearly a bit rushed, Wily's castle is almost insultingly easy, and it has excessive slowdown4 - feels like a more refined and polished version of 3. I really like this implementation of the charge shot (even if it is a bit janky and sometimes doesn't charge until you shoot first), great music, some very creative and fun levels, the best weapon balance and variety, and Wily's (dual) castles are fun5/6 - Idk if I was burned out by this point but both of these games felt very mediocre and forgettable. The stages look nice, but they just aren't fun to play, the new charge shot being lost upon damage is just frustrating and unsatisfying, music is bland, and the bosses are just annoying. Also it felt like stages just shat out hordes of enemies and most of the deaths were from insta-death trollshit. Simultaneously the easiest and most frustrating games.
>>12358231>nonsensical level designthis is a nonsensical criticism. What don't you understand about MM2's level design?
>>12358239It just feels haphazard and nonsensical, massive bullet sponge enemies just tossed about, pointless screens, multiple times each stage you ask yourself >"wtf were they thinking? What is the point of this? Did they even test this shit?"And the answer to all three is that it's a rushed, untested piece of shit
Also 4 has Mega Man actually look at each stage when you select it, no idea why they removed this in 5 and 6, or removed the new weapon animations after stages, or ruined/removed RushCoil in, or why they fucked the charge shot by making it lost upon hit. It's so bizarre they perfected the formula with 3 and 4 then shit the bed with 5 and 6. It's like the entire team besides the artists was all interns
>Idk if I was burned out by this point butThat's why you shouldn't play these back to back
>>12358265>It's like the entire team besides the artists was all internsThat was the case for 5 at least yes
>>12358283Fans don't get burned out
