So did anybody actually beat this game?
I beat the Sega CD version and it was kino
>>12363578if you beat it, then all copies and memories in this world will fade from existence
>>12363578>be 4 years old>jump out of the water at the beginning>turn the game off and never play it again
Yeah, but it's a commitment at the end.
>>12363578I got to the autoscroller at the end of the game and quit when I played it awhile back. even approaching it organically before I knew the infamy of that section it was too much to bother with.
>>12363578I beat it, then I beat it again on hard mode. Then Ecco II, and then went for Ecco II on hard mode, but finally got filtered in one particular bastard-hard spot in the sky tubesEcco 1 & 2 are amazing games, I highly recommend them
I tried but I finally gave up on the last level upon being randomly killed by the alien queen and having to redo the 10 minute autoscroller over and over
>>12363772>Amazing1 is fine, mostly2 is pretty good, mostly

There's just nothing else like it. Ecco games have a very particular art direction, unique atmosphere and music (both cart and CD versions) and the gameplay is ambitious, multidirectional free roam time attack design, it does give anxiety due to the oxygen aspect though.Ironically, another Sega game, made by Japanese, utilized the same approach of free roam 8 directional controls. If only Novotrade had gotten their hands on the NiGHTS engine...
>>12363580I put it in my CD player
>>12363578I really enjoyed swimming and jumping in the first level. Then it went to the caves and it become too claustrophobic for me
>>12363578i find them endearing and a fun ridei'd say that they are as worth while as Earthworm Jim 1/2 is.
Played the game all the way through actually!Got into the games at a very early age from playing on a bootleg handheld.PAIN IN THE FUCKING ASS! Some of the best music I've heard coming from that shitty fucking sound chip.Years later I played the CD version of it! GOD! THAT MUSIC IS DIRECTLY FROM HEAVEN!
BE REAL IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAY
>>12363578Yes but on master system as a kid. I didn't even consider it a really hard game but it had some hard bits. It even gives you a password so you can just crank on a single level for a couple of hours if you want. It didn't even take that particularly long to beat, I have good memories of it like that ice level where you slide along the ground.>new youtubersSwim slowly past 8 arms. I give up, what could that possibly mean.
>>12367575The 8-bit versions were significantly easier.
>>12363586I totally understand! That was terrifying!
No, OP. Everyone who played this game quit, as was clearly stated in the video you watched directly before making this thread with your brown hands.
>>12369585>Everyone who makes a thread must be watching e-celebs!!!How online must you be to seethe this hard, quit the projection raj.
>>12365173The oxygen aspect was too much, even as a kid I thought it was ridiculous for dolphins to drown so easily.
>>12369641It’s a tourist trend on this board that every some youtuber’s video about Retro Game starts trending, a low-effort thread on the exact topic appears here.
>>12369585That's not Ecco, that's just some random dolphin from the original painting.
>>12369689Ask me how I know you weren't alive when this game came out
>>12369908How?
>>12363578I remember really wanting this game as a kid and not playing it till much later in life. I would have hated it. It's so cruel for the sake of difficulty. I remember using save states on ps3 or something and beating it that way. Otherwise, no not legit. It's true to the nature of dolphins though, just an asshole of a game.
>>12369908Op surely wasn’t alive back then. If he was he would remember that games used to have these things called “cheat codes” that we used to use to get past the bullshit parts. In this case it was face Ecco towards the camera, pause and then enter some convoluted button sequence to open the cheat menu.
>>12363578No, they got stuck at the red barrel.
>>12363578It has passcodes so its not too bad to beat.... really the only level that is a barrier is Welcome to the Machine.... I would advise you to take notes during that level, such as writing down on a page arrows depicting which directions to travel in.
>>12370670That code is "Right, B, C, B, C, Down, C, Up". The cheat menu includes level select, invincibility, and sound test options.
>>12363578I made it past the autoscroller part once then googled the password so I never had to go through that again. The fact you had to do that again if you die to the boss was absolute bullshitI made it far in Ecco 2 but the octopus thing in the sky tubes filtered me
>>12372952It's true, the Medusa is fucking brutal.
>>12363578I only played this game a few times as a child. I didn't know what to do, so I just did random things. I liked how it looked and the vibes, though, not that I can really remember much else about it because that was a while ago.
