I like my 1980 13" Sampo. It's got perfect condition rabbit ears and a handle. Half of the pots are in the back and recessed which is annoying though, but at least it has them.
>>12378924ooh, that makes sense. i play my media from usb drives locally. on an unrelated note, i finally got my hands on that 3d playstation tv. i definitely overpayed but i've been wanting one for a while and i found one in great shape, with working glasses. it's got me back into 7th gen stuff. what's your favourite 3d movie you've watched on it?>>12379430it has a nice interface, and i already own 2. the path of least resistance is using a decently powerful device with native composite output that is already in my house. and even if i didn't already own one, they're plentiful and still cheap.
>>12380251Avatar and Tron: Legacy are the only ones I've tried so far, I'm a lot more interested in the games. Speaking of the glasses, I bought these Bravia glasses that run on replaceable coil cells that are also much more comfortable than the ones that came with the display.
Did any consumer TVs have a dot mask rather than a slot mask? I know plenty of VGA monitors used dot masks, as well as non-sony professional monitors like ones made by panasonic, but I've never heard of any TVs that use them.I just really find slot masks ugly tbqh.
I finally made my mobile battle stations. Every console is connected to a giant industrial power strip that I can unplug whenever I'm not using them (10 outlets for the cart with the smaller CRT, 16 for the cart with the big one). Idk what I'll do about video cable management, but since it's so easy to get behind the tv's, I'll probably just plug each console's video cables in when I'm ready to play them. Would like to add a couple more consoles eventually, but for now I'm quite happy with how they turned out.

>>12380427these wire rolling carts are a popular setup for CRTs/consoles, and objectively they're a very practical solution. But I just can't stand them for my own personal setup. They just look so ugly. But at the same time, it's become downright impossible to find something suitable that actually looks nice, because nobody makes TV stands that are deep enough or sturdy enough to support big CRTs anymore, so you're limiting to picking through facebook boomer scraps locally.
Just bought this, need to fix a few issues. The image is obviously tilted, which I assume I just fix by adjusting the yoke to make it steady.Second issue is that the image is bowing a bit, which is hard to see in the picture but noticeable.Third issue is that there is a pretty strong blue tint to the image, and at certain brightnesses, visible blue horizontal lines can be seen on the picture in an hourglass pattern. What do I need to do here to fix these?
>>12380441Here's another picture of it, this is Batocera over component.
>>12380427>>12380430>>12380440I don't get this shit. It looks horrendous. It immediately makes me think you're poor and live alone with no friends or in a basement where your parents don't care. Just spend like a few more dollars for proper decent looking furniture, heck even the temu chinese furniture shit with LEDs and stuff is probably cheaper and better.
>>12380430>open grates for your tv feet to fall throughat least put some 5/8"-3/4" wood plates on top of the shelves
>>12380442a yoke adjustment is probably the ideal, but I do know that a lot of these wega trinitrons also had a limited degree of software rotation you could do in the regular menu. You could try that too. For the rest of the geometry, just go into the service menu and fuck around with settings until it looks "good enough". And you can use 240p test suite to check the relative strengths of red/green/blue and adjust the cutoff and amplitude of the green and blue to match red and try to get a neutral white. Do those horizontal/diagonal lines moves across the screen? Could be retrace lines which can happen if brightness/voltage is cranked too high IIRC. Could try adjusting G2 on the flyback.
>>12380453It is ugly, but it's organized. Not my thing. It can be done so much better.
>>12380453I wouldn't trust amazon/temu/whatever particle board crap to hold a big CRT. Best bet is to find old bulky WOOD furniture.
>>12380459Not sure if this WEGA model has adjustment but the picture is so severe I think I'd have to adjust it regardless. The lines don't move, and are more/less visible depending on brightness. Will adjusting G2 also fix the color tint issue, or is that another problem entirely?
>>12380465You want to know what works as good as wood?Thick glass.
>>12380467if the lines don't move, I don't think they're retrace lines so I wouldn't fuck with the flyback in that case. I'm no expert on this though, and I have no idea what those lines could be if they're not moving.
>>12380463>but it's organizedIs it though? I use wire shelves for stuff, but like, there's rules to this shit lol.>>12380465CRTs really aren't that beefy and heavy as most people make out. These 2000s sets are very light. Also it doesn't really matter what it's made of as much as it matters how it's fastened and put together.
>>12380483It is in an eyesore sort of way. But yeah, my personal rule is to hide or minimize cords and other junk clashing with other junk.>>12380483>CRTs really aren't that beefy and heavy as most people make out.The ones before the 2000 models aren't. I think it had to do with lead, as in, some earlier models had it as it wasn't illegal at the time, so those weigh more. Old microwaves are also like that, heavy as an elephant because of lead shielding.
>>12380510Yeah pre 2000s it's also just generally all the parts are bigger and beefier. I'm not sure the exactly when it was but sometime around the year 2000 is when capacitors shrunk down considerably as well. So your old 80s and 90s sets were usually made of heavier materials wood and earlier plastic molds with bigger electronics and in the 2000s you had thinner better plastic molds and smaller internals.
>>12380440Yeah basically for me, the main reason I went with the racks is because it makes cable management much easier, allows me to move everything into a corner when I'm not using them, and they are expandable as long as I get new shelves. Not a looker, but for my purposes it's pretty much perfect>>12380453And no shoddily made garbage off Temu with garish lights that'll go out in a few months is not a better option. I'm looking for function, not form.
>>12381568There's so much better cheaper function over form stuff you can still get that's not that ugly ass poor person wire shelf shit lmao. Your house looks like you live with your grandparents and smells bad and you live off ebt and shit or whatever and other kids wouldn't ever want to come to your house except to buy your adhd medication. It's fucking embarrassing.
How do I use these do fix vertical convergence? Rotating them just messes with horizontal convergence
I'm >>12380442I adjusted the yoke and fixed the bowing/rotated image, and adjusted the G2 and focus to fix that tint/blue line issue. Now all I gotta do is fix the convergence and that discoloration on the right side (purity issue?) And I think it'll look great. How do I do that?
>>12382426it's fine, calm down, bud
>>12382735Nah, fuck you.
>>12382736i'm sorry your father didn't give you enough positive attention growing up. i've heard a weighted blanket can be comforting for people with your type of mental problems, maybe try that?
>>12382739You're projecting actually. My dad not only loves me and gives me positive attention we're best friends and regularly interact and hang out together. My dad is the shit.On the other hand you clearly live with your parents/grandparents in a shithole which is extremely obvious from the decor and wire racks lmao.
>>12382720Did you disconnected the TV and make sure to prevent any electrical shock when moving the yoke? i would not have done that in your place
I'm too far down the CRT rabbit hole. There's no turning back.
>>12382796No, I adjusted the yoke with the TV turned on, because I'm not a pussy ass faggot. You need to be able to see the picture while you adjust.
>>12382786i'm not the wire rack guy. good luck with your miserable life though.
>>12382863My life isn't miserable at all though. Nice try, in fact, I probably have one of the most comfortable lives of anyone in this thread.

My mom still owns a widescreen CRT, i love her for thatWhat are the negatives of these? i heard they have input lag similar to flatscreens due to internal processing, but at least they have the visuals of a CRT, right?
>>12385861>input lagImperceptible.
>>12385870so the only difference between a widescreen CRT and a 4:3 CRT is a tiny amount of input lag? coolIs there any measurement comparing the input lag in both, and also comparing it to a flatscreen TV?
>>12385861what model?
>>12385893Depends, some do some kinda processing not as much as you think, we had a Panasonic Tau up until about 2017 that did 1080i and up to the Wii U it all looked fucking gorgeous on it
>>12385861Widescreen CRTs don't introduce input lag by themselves. They're still analog SD TVs.Only HD CRTs do, and it's only a subset of widescreen TVs. There were very few of those in Europe, in NA they were more popular. You gotta check what that particular TV is, look for HDMI inputs or something.
Sup /crt/?I just picked this up from a church rummage sale this morning and just got it home, need to clean it still before hooking anything up. It's from '88, never had a TV this old, I'm fully expecting it to not work or have terrible geometry or something, will update in about an hour.

It's dim, the colors are all over the place, it's blurry etc. but the case is so clean and it has fake shitty wood grain. Should I use it to teach myself how to recap and try to fix/mod old TVs? I only paid $10 for it so I don't mind if I accidentally sacrifice it.

Not quite side of the road yet but my elderly neighbors have a pretty decent looking CRT in their garage collecting dust. I’m thinking about offering to take it for them since my guess is they straight up can’t move it (the man uses a walker to move around). It’s a Sharp either 27” or 32” pic related.
>>12380430y're a very practical solution. But I just can't stand them for my own personal setup. They just look so ugly. But at the same time, it's become downright impossible to find something suitable

>>12390698>please get your consoles off the floorThat was only temporary when I was testing it with different hardware because it didn't want to sync to some consoles' RGB signal. Now all my consoles are neatly placed on the rack that came with the TV, it's very spacious. The setup is not done yet, I need to fix/calibrate a few things on the TV and find a way to manage the cables better. I'm also waiting for the TV tuner that's supposed to fit on the top shelf (the Profeel is only a monitor by itself). Of course it's useless today, but I wanted to have the complete set.
