Rayman remaster

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6si6GIKIg24
>>
my wife showed me this before you did, kek. good thing it has a trainer menu or no modern audiences would bother with it...
>>
Did you know Rayman sold 4 million copies across all consoles? 4 million! No one ever talks about it. It sold more than Croc, or Banjo Kazooie, or RE3. Everyone remembers those games, but not Rayman. Rayman was just kinda "there".
>>
rayman redemption already exists
>>

not for long it doesn't
download it before it gets taken down
>>
This will save Ubisoft stock.

Oh boy a laggy inaccurate version of the original for a premium price
>>
>>12382482
Probably because it sucks. It looks great, it has a great soundtrack but it plays poorly and it's incredibly unbalanced.

A good chunk of Rayman's sales were in Europe, watch any millennial UK YouTuber who talks about video games and they'll bring it up. Rayman belongs in the same "niche" as those games you mentioned, popular but not universally played or recognized.

What is this meme with people saying this kind of shit about every best seller that isn't Mario or Zelda? What are people like you doing here? Absolutely pathetic. Maybe the target audiance for these remasters do post on /vr/ now after all. Shouldn't you be posting comments on youtube or gamefaqs or retrogametalk about "games that HOLD UP and have AGED WELL" (and how Rayman isn't one of them)?
>>

I have low vision and that shit is pretty condescending. Font size, color, text readers and background opacity are accessibility options, invincibility, infinite lives and such are just cheats.
>>
>>12382452

Accessibility for zoomers, I suppose. The rewind option is going to be a lifesaver against space mama. Fucking bitch.

Dude, Rayman had, what, two direct sequels, two HD soft-reboots, and a constant presence as a cross-over franchise (Rabbids, etc). Dont act like your retarded Croc or Glover or whatever is a better-known IP.

how is this an appropriate response? are you having a stroke, or are you esl?

Honestly the cheat options don't bother me like they usually would. The original Rayman is fucking ridiculously unreasonably hard to the point where it would be a bitch to play even with unlimited lives.
>>

Seems like native widescreen is the only interesting new feature if you aren't interested in the cheats or protoypes. Maybe Rayman Redemption has that too but when I last tried it I thought its OC shit stuck out like a sore thumb, no idea why people shill that project so hard.

tldr while PS1 was the lead CD version, the Jaguar version was the one playtested the most since it was the one in development longest. Both are missing some things not in the other version.

How about the DOS and GBA versions? Not sure why they were included (I guess because all those level packs were for DOS, and GBA because it was by Digital Eclipse) but they don't have the "enhancements" apparently.

They tuck in a very short part in the extras section (Rayman Re-Scored):
>Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends composer Christophe Héral discusses creating the new music for this 30th anniversary release of Rayman, paying homage to original composer Rémi Gazel (1966-2019)
Sounds like his compositions are in legal limbo after he died of cancer... They keep saying this is a tribute and they were very respectful and needed to do this to even re-release the game and blablablah but honestly they don't hold a candle to the originals.
>>
>>12382932
I have played the original Rayman several times and will definitely play it again. Even then I believe the game could only be improved by infinite continues.

The Sonic 3 sitch is different because the alternate tracks bear no resemblance (and the leaked proto was in better quality than the versions they used in Sonic Origins) whereas here, it's more like they can't reuse the original recordings but large parts of the melodies can be similar. It's like hearing a bootleg concert version of the Rayman OST... I'll have to hear it in full before I form a final opinion. But to be super-fair to this collection: from what I hear so far, the Jaguar and GBC versions are a straight-up improvement over the downsampled originals. This might actually be the best way to play the Jaguar version in all honesty. I don't know what they did, if this was through the emulator or they hacked in Jaguar CD emulation or what. The major setback of the original Jaguar version was the audio.

Same reason why no one really talks about Gex, side stroller when 2d platforms were dying and 3d platformers became the standard. The sequel came out that was a 3d platformer and everyone interested moved on to that. In the case of Rayman 2 it seemed it was on everything too, the still relevant 5th gen consoles got it and the 6th gen consoles that were out at the time got it. The 1st one came out less than a year before Mario 64 and after about 10 years of 2d platformers being one of the most ocular genres on consoles.

Saturn is like a slightly-more-playtested PS1 version, they had a month or so to make touch-ups, like for example the level clear jingle is richer. Some atmospheric transparency effects that the PS1 hardware handled are gone, but the final battle has new effects for lighting and such.
Really though, I think Ubisoft must still have the source code. Every subsequent release was built on top of the PS1 version (save the Jaguar version whose engine diverged when development split off to PS1). If they actually cared, they could've made a combined version that takes the best of each. This is lazy.

>Can we stop this shit?
Agreed, that this isn't "accessibility", it's just making it impossible to lose. Anyone can beat a game if you make it impossible to lose even if they were deaf, blind, and were missing all of their limbs except for a single leg by just mashing the controller with their foot.

Accessibility would be making it so someone with a handicap can play at the same level as someone without it, colorblind modes, ways to adjust reaction time, closed captions (not just subtitles), macros for button presses those with missing or damaged hands can't do, etc. THAT shit is accessibility, not "Ok, you literally can't lose now. Yay! Accessibility features done! We are such great and progressive people for making our game accessible!"

>>
>>12384594
Yeah, Ubisoft has it's own launcher. Basically when you run a game from steam it just tells Uplay or whatever they're calling it now to open and launch the game. It also handles it's own cloud saves abut it's buggy as fuck and if the cloud save fails for some reason it can overwrite your local saves and leave you with a corrupted save or even no save. Some other shit companies like EA do it too. I was playing some of the old assasins creed games last summer and it gave me nothing but problems. Some real bullshit, I got AC3 remastered for free when I bought odyssey years back but had no interest in playing it then. I decided to try it out so I downloaded it but I couldn't get uplay to launch it. Turns out for the free version you have to have odyssey, a 100gb game, installed on your hard drive to be able to run it. I didnt have it installed and to play the game for free i have to spend a day or 2 downloaidng it from their slow ass servers and burn a huge chunk of my data usage just to play a shitty remaster of a game I bought over a decade ago and they gave me as a gift. You know what they told me when I went through their crappy support system? If i didnt want to download oddyssey then i should just buy AC3 remastered. Absolutely shit company. Don't give them your money, if you're curious pirate that shit.

It's bound to happen, apparently they just canceled the Sands of Time remake because it didn't meet their quality standards which you know is complete bullshit. It's probably because that last Prince of Persia game they made did hit the sales numbers they wanted but it s9ld over a million copies. I think that's pretty good for a niche franchise no one had cared about in 20 years. I bet the Splinter Cell remake gets canceled as well.

Supposedly this was a "mistake" with a Ubisoft rep that "misunderstood" the question. Normally I would call bullshit and it just being PR speak from a company trying to save face from people talking about something stupid they did, but considering how laughably absurd it would be even for a company like Ubisoft to drop support in less than 24 hours of a release and refuse to fix two of the games in the collection failing to save at all, I would not be surprised if the idiot rep at Ubisoft assumed the guy was asking about support for the original 30 year old DOS or Jaguar releases of the games.

the OG Sands of Time released 20 years after the series was last relevant and it made PoP bigger than ever before. so it definitely can be done, but all the really popular PoP games involved Jordan Mechner and good luck convincing him to work with 2026 Ubishit.

Anon, having post launch support for modern gaming is expected. After post launch support for mememasters is not. These things aren't supposed to be the "ultimate definitive versions" marketing makes them out to be, they're designed to be cashgrabs with a budget as low as possible. They also don't expect needing to fix bugs or that the project needs any testing because for them that already happened when the games originally released. The fact that this bugs exists in the first place should tell you that.

If they're pretending like "oh it's a misunderstanding! we will fix it of course!" it's only because of the backlash and I don't believe one second they had planned for post launch support in the first place.

That's the idea. The game is supposed to end on a "to-be-continued" note. Only the Jaguar version makes this obvious. The return of Mr. Dark was probably supposed to be a big part of the original Rayman 2, but became more of a soft reboot where Rayman is almost the only limbless character after it jumped ship from 2D to 3D, and he just became a mention in the manual and a constant tease that never happens.
At least the Saturn version visually improves the final battle and has a unique victory animation for Rayman where he seems to just..exit the world for next time or something.

Rayman Origins was originally a prequel instead of "Rayman 4" watch the upcoming game is called that so there's probably some lore implications with the og baddie and Rayman being the only armless characters left. They had him appear in one of the mobile games where he actually looks badass, though they prolly wanted to show off the unused redesign in case the chance never came up again.

It's not Collector because Forever cut the soundtrack down by over half. Maybe they're the tracks that don't have legal issues?
The extra levels are all custom fan submissions from back in the day made in Rayman Designer (the official level editor). Otherwise the DOS version of Rayman isn't all that notable besides replacing one of the Band Land areas and restoring Breakout. It's mostly close to the PSX version except missing a few graphical effects and the top and bottom of the screen were cut slightly compared to PSX/Jaguar/Saturn.
