Many believed that most devs were not ready for 3D, and that's why the Saturn was a weird hybrid architecture. And then the PlayStation proved otherwise.

Perhaps less "not ready" and more "why bother", given the much smaller user base. The PS2 was also notoriously difficult, but since there was money to be made, devs had to suck it up. I recall reading that some were absolutely despondent about having to abandon the much friendlier Dreamcast for it...

I get that 3D was in, but man they really should have showcased great 2D with some pseudo 3D here and there. Sonic worked better in 2D, Chaotix should have been the flagship Sonic title for the Saturn, and given another year or so to flesh it out. Knuckles could have been to Sonic was DKC was to Super Mario. Tails Adventure on the Gamegear could have led to a spin-off series too, there was so much potential in the software and hardware divisions, just the wrong people in charge is all at both America and Japan.

He made a piece of hardware that will truly BTFO N64/PS1fags forever. The COOL console for the trendy Japanese Adult, its competitors mere children's toys that could never have half the depth of it's strip mahjong library. It will truly live rent free in their minds for the rest of eternity. In that way he can never die.

RIP to a Legend.

bummer RIP. Genesis was my first console and it was so awesome. Chossing FM for the sound chip was an awesome idea.

Dreamcast was innovative and genius should have lived on far longer than it did, the best of that generation between PS2, Xbox and GCN in my opinion.

The original Genesis still remains one of the best designed consoles ever, the aesthetics on it are also top notch.

Not sure what Pakistani school you learned English in, but in the proper Anglo world, when you ask who somebody is, it’s because you want others to explain who that person is. Of course, one who doesn’t know that sentences start with a capital letter wouldn’t understand those intricacies, but you’ll get there Muhammad.

Don't forget that Naka and Iizuka had input in the Dreamcast hardware design.

In the Tokyo International Forum, you can see the Ninja Lights system in action. Dynamic shadows, lights and other effects that aren’t seen in the final game.

The final game removed most of the Ninja Lights system, but some of it is still leftover. Some objects like the TVs still use Ninja Lighting.

In Mystic Ruins, green bit was supposed to be a poor man's global illumination--i.e the grass "reflecting" green light.

The Dreamcast had the ability to perform what was called Order Independent Transparency which SA2 used extensively for things such as item balloons and artificial chaos. When SA2 and SA1 was ported to Gamecube, many of the transparency features that the Dreamcast had couldn't be replicated and they were never fixed for the PC port.

Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 were extremely ambitious. Sonic Adventure 2 is a much, much, much more robust game internally than SA1. I cannot stress that enough. It is much more flexible in every conceivable way, and it is really impressive how much Sonic Team improved on in such a short time frame. But it is still obviously based on SA1 and shares a lot of infrastructure, albeit greatly improved.

The problem is that Sega of America and Sega of Japan got caught up in autistic power struggles over the future of the company rather than actually producing a good product after the Genesis. There are so many stories of SoA and SoJ trying to one up the other branch, meanwhile Sony and Nintendo are actually functioning in a more or less sane capacity during the 5th gen (at least in terms of internal office politics).
