Couldn't master the system
Oh shit
Megadrive and Dreamcast were great piece of hardware He failed miserably with the Saturn tough but even the best make mistakes
>>12386048RIP. I'll always love SEGA's consoles and their design, especially the Master System and Mega Drive.
>>12386090I understand he's just the visual designer of the systems, not the dude who actually designed the internals and chips
>>12386093No, he was the lead engineer of these systems.
>>12386093Still counts for something even if that had been the only thing he did. As a Nintendo kid, I always thought Sega's hardware had the sexiest fucking aesthetics in the 90s.
>>12386048RIPMegadrive/Genesis hardware aesthetics were peak.
The old world is starting to disappear. It's sad.RIP
>>12386048Programmers were not ready for the saturn and the world was not ready for the dreamcast.
>>12386048FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Damn, it's the second big name in the history of Sega that leaves us in the span of 2 monthsRIP
RIP, mods sticky this.
>>12386048Thank you for everything Hideki Sato.
>>12386048RIP sticky>almost 300 on /v/>not even 20 here with people who would actually give a shit
>>12386818*200
>>12386786Not Nintendo-related, so no sticky.
>>12386528>Programmers were not ready for the saturnMany believed that most devs were not ready for 3D, and that's why the Saturn was a weird hybrid architecture. And then the PlayStation proved otherwise.
>>12386048DamnRest in peace
>>12386093
Yay it got stickied
If he had continued living, would that have saved the Saturn?
>>12386896Hell, it even would have saved the Game Gear.
>>12386896now that he has died, can we finally save the Saturn?
Played lots of Sega today
>>12386048RIP
>>12386048F
>>12386839I meant more that most programmers weren't ready for a wacky machine with 2 processors and a poor c compiler requiring you to write essentially multithreaded assembly if you wanted it to perform at full potential.
Translated interview about the Saturn.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LfOsrL21nc
>>12386048FIf you didn't have a Sega console in the 90s you are a faggot.
>>12386943Perhaps less "not ready" and more "why bother", given the much smaller user base. The PS2 was also notoriously difficult, but since there was money to be made, devs had to suck it up. I recall reading that some were absolutely despondent about having to abandon the much friendlier Dreamcast for it...
>>12386820this post didn't age well
>>12387040Yeah it only took 9 hours
>>12386857interesting read, thanks
>>12386048FUCK, I was just about to tell him how we could still save the Saturn…RIP
>le save le Saturn>le Sega SystemBase meme machine maker
>>12387023They should have man up and still supported the dreamcast instead of giving other devs more reason to jump aboard the slopstation 2
>>12386048Rest in peace.
>>12386048How could Sato have been saved?
>>12387042/vr/ doesnt have mods
>>12386048Rip
Damn, now Sega Lord X can never save the Sega Saturn.
>>12386048A low IQ shōshimin next to Ken Kutaragi

>>12386048May he pass on.https://news.sankakucomplex.com/2021/12/10/nes-snes-lead-architect-masayuki-uemura-passes-away/
>>12386050It's your fault. He died because you pirated Sega games.
>>12387023No it was definitely not ready.
Gave us so much fun...
>>12386857So the Saturn was 2D-focused because that's what most of Sega was familiar with. Interesting.Anyway, RIP.
>>12386048F. 75, just a fuckin kid
RIP, even as a mid-90s birth the Genesis was one of the first consoles I ever touched and I've learned to love SEGA hardware over the years.
>>12387651Don't make a mockery of the dead.
All boards, report
>>12387740I get that 3D was in, but man they really should have showcased great 2D with some pseudo 3D here and there. Sonic worked better in 2D, Chaotix should have been the flagship Sonic title for the Saturn, and given another year or so to flesh it out. Knuckles could have been to Sonic was DKC was to Super Mario. Tails Adventure on the Gamegear could have led to a spin-off series too, there was so much potential in the software and hardware divisions, just the wrong people in charge is all at both America and Japan.

>>12386048He made a piece of hardware that will truly BTFO N64/PS1fags forever. The COOL console for the trendy Japanese Adult, its competitors mere children's toys that could never have half the depth of it's strip mahjong library. It will truly live rent free in their minds for the rest of eternity. In that way he can never die.RIP to a Legend.

bummer RIP. Genesis was my first console and it was so awesome. Chossing FM for the sound chip was an awesome idea. Dreamcast was innovative and genius should have lived on far longer than it did, the best of that generation between PS2, Xbox and GCN in my opinion.
The original Genesis still remains one of the best designed consoles ever, the aesthetics on it are also top notch. How is a a headphone port on the console itself not a thing still

Of course, one who doesn’t know that sentences start with a capital letter wouldn’t understand those intricacies, but you’ll get there Muhammad.

>>12386048Say hi to your former bros for us, Sato-sama.:^)
Don't forget that Naka and Iizuka had input in the Dreamcast hardware design. In the Tokyo International Forum, you can see the Ninja Lights system in action. Dynamic shadows, lights and other effects that aren’t seen in the final game. The final game removed most of the Ninja Lights system, but some of it is still leftover. Some objects like the TVs still use Ninja Lighting. In Mystic Ruins, green bit was supposed to be a poor man's global illumination--i.e the grass "reflecting" green light. The Dreamcast had the ability to perform what was called Order Independent Transparency which SA2 used extensively for things such as item balloons and artificial chaos. When SA2 and SA1 was ported to Gamecube, many of the transparency features that the Dreamcast had couldn't be replicated and they were never fixed for the PC port.Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 were extremely ambitious. Sonic Adventure 2 is a much, much, much more robust game internally than SA1. I cannot stress that enough. It is much more flexible in every conceivable way, and it is really impressive how much Sonic Team improved on in such a short time frame. But it is still obviously based on SA1 and shares a lot of infrastructure, albeit greatly improved.>Sega Dreamcast had order independent transparency implemented in hardwarehttps://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/ms834190(v=msdn.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN
>>12386048RIP>>12388173/a/ reporting for duty>>12388197The problem is that Sega of America and Sega of Japan got caught up in autistic power struggles over the future of the company rather than actually producing a good product after the Genesis. There are so many stories of SoA and SoJ trying to one up the other branch, meanwhile Sony and Nintendo are actually functioning in a more or less sane capacity during the 5th gen (at least in terms of internal office politics).
>>12388197>>12389032Wow, /vr/ users who understand that both SoJ and SoA did retarded shit and that it wasn't the fault of one single branch exclusively
