What's your favorite era/ level in EVO?I like the stage where the giant bees are kidnapping little amphibians. It's fun to kill the bees and watch them drop their captives.
The first level, can't beat swimming and eating all day
>>12387827Loved this game when it came out, spent many hours with it.In hindsight it has its flaws, to the point that it just feels unfinished at times, but the overall concept was great.I enjoyed the first two/three levels, after that it got weird.
>>12387827thought this was golden axe>>12387969thought this was eccowtf
>>12388016time for the meds grandpa
>>12387827For me it was the Dinosaur/Cretaceous era. Taking that leap of faith to turn into a bird, going up the cloud maze and finding the floating ruins was great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_bkeAPkbDE>>12387981The choice of making it a platformer was weird but I liked the game, though it would have been great if they had kept the game as a trippy RPG like the original PC-98 release. I guess they wanted younger players for this one.

>>12387827Sea lions!..but actually, I love the stage where you are a fish with legs. It's just way hilarious.
PC98 EVO > SNES EVO
>>12388307I wish they would have carried over some of the weird human era forms from the old game. In the SNES one you become human and that's pretty much it. Would have been cool to have the Orcs, lizardmen, elves, and all that as options.
>>12388513In story sure, but the older game's mechanics suck. Evolution isn't interesting and battling is too simple and grindy. Still worth playing though.
>>12387827Probably dino times, but my favorite stuff in this game is the crazy crap going on in the corners (Fort Bird-man, various hidden endings, various missable scenes) and I guess there's a bit more of that in the fourth and fifth eras. Really, anything past ikustega times is my favorite. (I liked the first two eras as well though.)
>>12387827The River of Asteroid section is extremely evocative.
>>12387827I'm locked by music, so I'm sticking with the Age of Fish and I'll enjoy my literal immersion in the Cambrian Era.
>>12390164They let you go back in the ocean in the final era.
>>12388016?
>>12387827I like the cambrian period and the mass extinction event. Also this has to be the game with the worst english translation I've ever seen. They managed to butcher the name of every single animal, even tyrannosaurus was mistransliterated. I'll have to play the retranslation eventually https://retrogametalk.com/repo/snes-rom/46-okunen-monogatari-harukanaru-eden-e-japan/
>>12390476Even the regular text is mangled.>We will look into to your future.
>>12390129Best music, best background
>>12390447First time seeing a shitpost on 4chan?
>>12388574tbf the SNES game is also super grindy, just in a different way. Way more cheesable than 98 to get through some fights though.
>>12390476It's funny, the final boss of the SNES game (Bolbox) is basically an Akira reference but it goes over people's heads because they mistranslated the name. Its actual name is Volvox, which means it's an algae cell. That's why it's the final boss. A singular cell of algae, the most simple, on its own harmless cell in the world, absorbed the crystals and hyper-evolved into the most powerful being in the world, something that shouldn't have self-awareness but does, and thus THINKS it's a human even though it isn't. Which again maybe I'm wrong, but I think the final boss is just an Akira reference, from that one speech in the jail>"Ryu told me about it once. He said that Akira is absolute energy. Humans do all kinds of things during their lifetime, right? Discovering things, building things... Things like houses, motorcycles, bridges, cities, and rockets...All that knowledge and energy... Where do you suppose it comes from? Humans were like monkeys once, right? And before that, like reptiles and fish. And before that, plankton and amoebas. Even creatures like those have incredible energy inside them. And even before that, maybe there were genes in the water and air. Even in space dust, too, I bet. If that's true, what memories are hidden in it? The beginning of the universe, maybe. Or maybe even before that. Maybe everyone has those memories. What if there were some mistake and the progression went wrong, and something like an amoeba were given power like a human's?>You're saying Tetsuo...has become that?>Amoebas don't build their own houses and bridges, do they? They just devour all the food they can find around them."
>>12393870Bolbox doesn't think it's a human, it thinks it's the best choice to be Gaia's mate because it's the strongest lifeform.
So in the PC-98 game, why is it bad ending to get the Endurance path where humanity solves all its problems with tech and colonized the stars?
>>12395485Meets ephemeral needs.Not spiritual.
>>12393859NTA but PC98 game is way too uninteresting with the evo mechanic. Basically it just feels like you roll a dice and get 1 out of 3 creatures every time, there's no real evolution tree sense like there is on SNES.As the other anon said the story in PC98 is really crazy and great, but gameplay is really lacking. Even walking on the overworld feels janky.Anyway they are 2 very different games, on all fronts, so it's kind of apples and oranges. I also enjoy the more grounded in reality creatures on SNES, yeah you can create some bizarre creatures, there are wyverns and aliens, but 90% of the game is more realistic, whereas PC98 is like 90% fantasy, most creatures are humanoid monsters
>>12395485You fell onto the same trap as the Lunarians where you failed to develop spiritually so Lucifer can corrupt you as easily as she did them.
>>12395603>Basically it just feels like you roll a dice and get 1 out of 3 creatures every timeIt's based on which stat you're evolving, up and right moves you right along the tree while down and left moves you left.
What I would give for a game that combined the gameplay of the SNES version (though a little less janky) and the bugfuck insane story of the PC-98 one, instead of making me pick one or the other.
>>12396136Just play both
>>12396148I do, but it means playing 2 different games a year because they decided to change the story, and one of those games isn't very fun to play even if I enjoy said story a lot.
Will we ever see EVO3?
>>12388513PC98 is too mentally ill for me, the plot is just completely insane. Its also pretty rough gameplay wise since its a pc98 game.....Snes is ludokino Ill replay it every couple of years, its fun to fuck around with. Save states and cheat in exp fuck around with builds and see what you can do every level/era.
