The SNES port of Final Fight is a perennial whipping boy. It's only one player, no Guy, a missing level, it's censored, it was mogged by Streets of Rage etc.

But you know what? It's a fun game on it's own if you weren't aware of what it was missing.

Only 3 enemies on screen, which was a problem with almost every SNES beat em up. The console had sooo many beat em ups and pretty much all of them were gimped in this way.
Turtles in Time actually got away with 4 Foot Soldiers on screen, more if they were mixed with smaller enemies like mousers, pterodactyls and those roomba bots.

I'm aware. I rented the game when it came out under the false impression that it was a completely fixed version of the game - that it'd have all 3 characters, 2 players, all the levels and bosses etc. I was kinda disappointed when I found out all it really did was swap out Cody for Guy. I still had fun with it though.

Yeah, it's a fine port, especially given the weaker hardware, ROM size limitations, and the fact that it was effectively a launch title. And besides, it wasn't a time when you really expected ports to be arcade perfect.

TMNT, King of Dragons and Ghost Chaser are the ones I remember with 4 enemies at times, Undercover Cop too but that is single player.
Streets of Rage 2 and 3 by comparison I think got 7 on screen at once, and Golden Axe trilogy got 5 or 6 + mounts. The difference was pretty big.

aside from SoR2/3 most genesis beat em ups are 3/4 enemies too. FF2 hack kinda proves that the SNES could do 5 big enemies if they did some flickering like in SoR2

King of dragons aside Capcom ports could've been better, Captain Commando is particularly shit. Sailor moon has 4 big sprites with no slowdowns, also has co-op unlike the MD version. Melfran stories ihas smaller sprites but puts like 13 enemies on screen, kinda like Growl on the MD.

I mean to be fair, I was 9 years old and the only info I had about the game was a short blurb in Nintendo Power and it came out almost a year after Final Fight 2. I mean why WOULDN'T it be a fixed version of the game at that point?

Any console FPS. You'll have more fun with something like Quake 64 if you've never played Quake with a mouse, otherwise it just feels off. Arcade ports in general too, you won't notice that your shmup isn't supposed to have all that slowdown if you've never played the original.
