Both in the past(like when a teen or a kid) or even now(like recent times).
for me in the past :
>Ask to aunt to get "Beyond good and evil" for birthday because I tried the Demo disk on the PC I fell in love, but me and my brother own a PS2 too.
>She buys the game but the game cube version.
>Me and my brother lie that we like it and love to play instead we're playing the Demo over and Over and discover little things.
>In the end we sell it to the local game store and trade it in for a PS2 Star wars battlefront 2.
We didn't wanted to dissapoint our Aunt and we loved her and we knew she loved us, she saw us as her children. Nver told her even now and I think my brother even forgot about that.

Why not just tell the truth that it was the wrong format? She could have exchanged it no problem
>>
>>12389860
now that I think of it I think it was battlefront 1 now that I think of it.
>>12389860
It was multiple stuff, you know when you're 10 and you don't want to say that you were wrong, the fact that our Aunt really loved us, the fact that we're second generation immigrants and had to live with what we had, the fact that we didn't know that you could go to a game store and change the game.
We were just stupid kids/teens (my brother was older).
>>
>>12389852
If that shit had happened to me, I would've gone fucking NUCLEAR.
>>
>>12389860
My parents taught us to be grateful on Christmas day.

... unlike this autist...

I once made the mistake of asking for a new game without a specific request. Didn't do that again...

>asked Sonic 2 for my uncle
>except I only had a SNES and was too ignorant to understand console exclusives
>uncle somehow manages to find this
I reckon it was my fault though.

Not retro yet, but this reminds me of my theory that Sony ditched the 60gb model of the PS3 because parents would have been asking around for a "Playstation 3 60".
>>
>>12389894
You can still be greatful despite throwing a tantrum. I probably would've started crying and screaming, punching myself in the head until I got a promise that the game would be returned and replaced with the correct version.
>>
I don't think there was ever a circumstance where i asked for a game and got the wrong thing. At most i got random games as gifts i never asked for or wouldn't have asked for, or it was me making stupid decisions.(like changing my mind getting a 64DD for Christmas to get fucking Spore instead)
>>
I've never received stuff for the wrong system, but one time my parents sloppily hid a copy of Metroid 2 before I had a GB and my mom got flustered trying and failing to bullshit me about who it's for. obviously I got the system for my bday as well but they were pretty disappointed the surprise was blown.
>>
This POS. I don't think I've ever made it past the second level.

You were raised well, I did something very similar as a kid when I got the wrong game and I just shrug it off and pretended it was correct, my parents worked hard for me especially my mother so people like you give me hope.

Well, if you had a NES you could always play the notorious "Sonic & Knuckles 5", no clue where the 3 prior installations came in though.
>>
My parents weren't retards, they either got me a game i wanted or took me to the store to pick one out. Buying a game as a gift is fucking stupid in general, it's like buying a book for someone.

>Buying a game as a gift is fucking stupid in general, it's like buying a book for someone.
buying people books is stupid now?
>>
>>12390329
You should've put your foot down so your parents knew you wouldn't tolerate any bullshit or fuckups. "Ruining" (spoiler: they'll get over it) a holiday or two with a yelling/crying/aggression meltdown is fucking worth it, if it means that your relatives will be more careful when buying you stuff. Never settle.

>on holiday as a kid with my parents, my younger brother, and my gameboy
>find this game shop selling tonnes of gameboy games
>can't decide, so my Dad says take your time, have a think about what you want, and I'll bring you back later
>based Dad
>decide I really want Mega Man Wily's Revenge
>my younger brother decides I should get Jurassic Park
>my Mum decides that would be really neat, I should get Jurassic Park
>still to this day have no idea why
>both of them wave me off as Dad takes me back later; I get Mega Man
>my brother cries
>my Mum looks sad and disappointed
>my Dad waits until they're both out of earshot, pats my shoulder and says "good man"

Still not entirely sure what that was all about.

I got Chubby fuckin' Cherub for XMas in like 1990, what a letdown
>>

Why not the BGaE PS2 version that you both wanted so much?

My dad pretended to do this to me
>ask for Gameboy for my birthday
>dad takes me to pick the Gameboy and a game
>choose Donkey Kong Land
>birthday, unwrap present containing Gameboy and game
>pic related
>wonder how he managed to buy the wrong game, I literally showed him Donkey Kong and I thought he grabbed it off the shelf
>"everything ok?"
>yeah
>"you sure? that's the game you wanted, right?"
>actually I picked a different one, but this looks good too
>"oh no. In that case you better have this"
>reaches into his jacket and pulls out Donkey Kong Land

F1 Race was ok, but it really came in handy later because it came with a link cable. When Pokemon was first released no other kids I knew had one.
>>
>>12391939
based troll but in the end giving his son two games dad

Ever actually played some F1 Race multiplayer?
>>
>>12392049
Yeah an older kid who lived down the street from me also had the game and showed me what the link cable was for and we played multiplayer.
I remember him telling me about Tetris also supporting multiplayer but I didn't own it.

>Asked for pokemon blur or red
>Christmas day
>sister opens gift
>it's pokemon red
>oh wow if I get blue we can battle
>sister opens another of her gifts
>it's pokemon blue
Only time I ever showed some discontent at christmas.
>>
>>12391910
Why do you ask, are you feeling my aura of superiority?
>>12390340
This sounds like coping about no one ever buying you a game.
>>
>>12392423
Being individualistic to the point that making your siblings cry is a good thing sounds like a very American morale/education, yes
>>
>>12392384
>ask for pokemon blur
>get pokemon oasis
>>
>>12392384
Was is it a mistake or were both of them really for her?
>>
>>12392428
If it were the little brothers choice then dad would have asked him. Instead he asked the son who had the birthright, just like the Bible says to do.
>>12392431
>maaayyyybeeeee you'll be the one that saves (over my pokemon game)
>>
>>12392442
It was not a mistake and in retrospect I should have expected it.
>>
>>12389852
>wanted an RTS game like warcraft 3
>got "goblin commander" for the gamecube.
