Let's try something different.
Post back covers, specifically I'm interested in seeing what screenshots did publishers chose in order to sell the game.
Most people nowadays don't know or don't remember this, but it wasn't uncommon that back then, people would just pick up random games at stores, since media feed wasn't a thing and very few games had TV advertising, and not every kid could buy magazines every month, so going to a store and checking out a game's packaging was your only clue. It gave it a different kind of soul and mystique.
Starting with just a classic.
I think they did fine with these 2 screenshots, showing a bit of the forest maze with some enemies, showing how the game looks and how it's a top down action game, and the other one shows a boss fight. Pretty orthodox showcase but correct. I would have included 2 more, maybe one at Mabe Village showing the peaceful NPCs, and another one with a cutscene screen (something they did on the DX packaging), but I guess GB boxes were small enough that only 2 screenshots fit without making it too cluttered.

Not a back cover but the back of the manual that serves as the front cover of Bomberman World is used to advertise this fucking egg game and it always made me laugh when I opened the case.

Notice how the marketing puts "challenge" front in center in Link's Awakening but also DW2

I always find odd that everybody remember the oter 3 psx ridga racer games, but not this one.
>>
I remember answering a publisher's survey and saying that the most important thing to me for choosing a game was the back of the box.

Then we bought this game and it looked so much shittier than the screenshots on the back of the box.... I felt like we got robbed and it was all my fault.

That's how I picked up my first Zelda game. I had some birthday or Christmas money to spend, wanted a new game, and now that I think about it, it must have been the screenshots that sold it to me because I remember thinking this has the same over view perspective that Pokemon has and I really wanted another game like that, a similar world to explore. That was LTTP on the GBA, little did I know I picked a game that nearly 30 years later I still have memorized like the back of my hand.
Now that I'm on this topic I want to see what I was looking at back then because I don't remember it. I'm going to look it up. ..... Okay, now that I'm looking at it again, I do have a vague memory of the screenshot with the bridge, that was probably the one that sold it to me.

I just think it's cool that they show a relatively secret scene on the back. I bet people got the A ending and were stumped as to where that scene was.

A shame they removed the screenshot with the magic meter for the GC version's back cover.

Pure nostalgia most likely, but there was something fun & exciting about picking out a game based solely on the information given on the back cover, especially when renting.
>>
>>12392902
That game has a surprisingly killer soundtrack, with guitar samples.

Cool idea utterly ruined by disgusting PAL contributions. Do you think I want to see disgusting flag of England or France?

I had to see it. Lmao what a cock-up

Love the dramatic text.
Screenshots are fine, shows 3 different action situations and a boss fight with the huge sprite
