I mean, you can have the most amazing gameplay, level design, and scoring system, but if it's just going to be another "spaceship blasting off and striking the evil (Bydo) empire" or "seeing a fever dream a la Parodius", why should I even consider playing it when Touhou offers me a better experience?
By "better experience" I mean moments like:
>Shrine Maiden vs. Vampire
>Resurrection Butterfly
>Facing off against Kaguya when Voyage 1970 comes up
>Grazing thousands of miniature SUNS
>Clownpiece the 'American' (actually Greek) Fairy
>The fight against Keiki Haniyasushin
>Getting lost in the Asama Purifying Mountain only to find yourself in the Moon and facing Watasuki no Toyohime
>Nina Watari
And it's not just Reimu or Marisa experiencing those moments. You as a player do too.

Tyrian is the only good shmup.

You're obsessed with ecelebs right? This popped up in my feed and I thought it was kind of interesting.

Like I'm not that great at shmups and I'm probably at about the same place skill-wise as this guy if I'm being honest with myself but DOJ absolutely mindbroke him somehow. It's really odd to listen to. I thought my DOJ clear was bad, like I had to bomb through stage 5 completely and I was pretty embarrassed by it and wanted to record another run at a later date, but this is some of the worst play I've ever seen, you can tell his heart is not in it at all and it took him 3 entire months to clear whereas it took me 3 weeks. It's just extremely odd. Like watching this shit gave me psychological damage.

I'd play a Shmup if it was like the Gummi Ship mode from Kingdom Hearts, where you can customize your ship and unlock better parts, even though the Gummi Ship game in Kingdom Hearts is an on rails shooter

play Tyrian
>>
>>12391670
That's interesting. So you're saying that you don't actually like playing shmups, but hypothetically think that you would enjoy a shmup which had meaningless progslop added onto it?
>>
>>12391674
Yeah, pretty much
Cuz then it would actually be interesting tinkering and trying to come up with cool builds

Retarded bait thread, do not engage.

What's the point of any genre? What's the point of games?
>>
Dodging the bullets is fun

To be clear, a "shoot 'em up" isn't when yet another tranny goes postal at a school.
But you might try identifying as a person who likes playing games that have a similar play style to what you like instead of an autogynephilia attention whore.
