I bounced off of the Famicom version of Portopia a few years back. I'm going to give it another go, along with as the recent English release of its sequel (The Okhotsk Disappearance) on Steam.

Has anyone played the microcomputer parser based versions? how do they compare to the Famicom one? They seem to be mostly kana so I might be able to manage with my rubbish Japanese.

Also, how good are the Famicom Tantei remakes for the switch? Played the fantranslated "The Girl Who Stands Behind" remake for the Super Famicom ages ago and enjoyed it.

Nah they're great, it's just that they're pure VNs (assuming we're talking about the non-famicom ones).

>English
What's the point of playing a narrative-driven game if you can't even experience the narrative? Playing a game like that in English is like reading a children's adaptation of a serious literary work.

Not yet, but I just picked up a PC-6001 and I'm planning to play through Portopia soon.

They're fantastic. Real top-notch stuff. I love everything about them.

Are they actually visual novels or are they "visual novels"? Visual novels didn't exist until 1997, what platform(s) are they on besides the Famicom?
