I've finally found a JRPG with music that rivals Chrono Trigger. I'm playing it now and the field theme has been in my head all day. What do we think of this game?

It's another fantastic action j-rpg I only got half way through, which is sad since it's only like 15 hours long or something
>>
>I've finally found out about... Terranigma
did you "discover" the super nintendo last week?
>>

for me, it's Koichi Sugiyama's playful and melancholic Shiren the Wanderer OST

This was such a fun and cute part, what happened later broke my heart. Terranigma reminds me of Alundra in some ways.

boot it up again

I've always known about it but this is my first time sitting down and actually playing it.

>>12396221
this is a roguelike isn't it? Funnily enough, I've been looking into this as well.

Alundra is another gem with an amazing OST

yep. it's a very nice game. the DS remake is pretty good too, and still easy to snag.

I wasn't aware he had worked on the Shiren series.
Whilst he's obviously best known for Dragon Quest, I recall his work on the E.V.O. series, the second of which was an Enix published title on the SNES.

On the second Game Music Concert album, performed by the Tokyo Memorial Orchestra, two of the tracks from the PC-98 title "46 Okunen Monogatari: The Shinkaron" (4.6 Billion Year Story: The Theory of Evolution) were performed. They're often mistaken as E.V.O. Search for Eden tracks, due to that game re-using much of the music.

Koichi Sugiyama conducted for all five of these Game Music Concerts, each performed by different orchestras with many other conductors, representing a renowned selection of video games, primarily Japanese ones with a lot of JRPG representation, but has a lot of Nintendo stuff in there too.

They're well worth a listen.

It was fun until you get to the zombie village and they ask you to magically find the only fucking backdoor in the entire game. Then on the next village with the mute princess the game expects you to magically know what to do and that's when I finally dropped it. I hate when games get cryptic for no reason.

>Terranigma
>Terrible Enigma
It's literally the title of the game. What else were you expecting?
>>
>>12396321
>magically find the only fucking backdoor in the entire game
You can see multiple zombies walking into that before.
>>
>>12396321
I didn't even get that far. The dungeons all just felt long and samey, fighting the same handful of enemy types over and over again with nothing else to really engage with. Also, what was up with not letting you use the magic during boss fights? That was like the only time it seemed like it would be useful.

I played this game twice and still remember that guy who said he'll build a door there. The princess puzzle is a chain of events that can be figured out simply by trying out what would make sense.

You can't use magic during bosses? I barely used it I almost never needed it, but I do remember being able to activate it mid boss.

>I played this game twice and still remember that guy who said he'll build a door there.
Now that you mention it I might have a faint memory of a door being mentioned. It still wasn't a good enough hint imo, you essentially have to guess he's referring to the back (emphasis on 'back', it's completely hidden) of that specific building.
>The princess puzzle is a chain of events that can be figured out
I'm pretty sure I did everything you could do, maybe I should have explored the village a few times more after meeting the princess just to be sure but at that point I got bored of exploring the same areas. I might pick it up again soon, to scratch that arpg itch.

I never could into this game like I could Soul Blazer or Illusion of Gaia for some reason but I just can't put a finger on it. Kinda felt like it droned on.

Only some bosses block magic.
>>
>>12396220
It's a hidden gem

It's true

I never would have finished it without a guide, but it's a visionary masterpiece in its way.
