Could it have been the most visually impressive SNES game had it been finished?

Probably not compared to Rare's other work on the platform.

Yes

Nah man, Dream blows DKC out of the water
This looks more like Killer Instinct's original arcade release than the SNES Killer Instinct
>>
No, games with pre-rendered graphics look like ass.

By some standards sure, since it looks like it might have become the most ambitious pre-rendered 3D game on the platform. But the angle of the camera makes the flatness of the big jungle layers especially obvious in a way that didn't happen so much with the DKC games, which humbly embraced flatness by using purely 2D side-view levels... I think that more graphical layers than the SNES can keep up with would be needed to make this look really nice. Also the character design is nauseatingly European. I suspect that I personally would prefer the look of a DKC game to this, and it'd also have to beat some pretty amazing pixel art (occasionally accompanied by far superior art direction) from hundreds of Japanese-made games, plus (for what it's worth) the true 3D gimmick of Star Fox.

It already looked pretty good, I was talking about if the gameplay itself was finished.

Man and people call FFX a series of hallways

This was a pre-alpha tech demo, the game never got far in development.

They only went full 3d movement when switching to the n64

You look like ass

Yes, obviously, I mean are you even looking at your own webm? This would have given people heart attacks in the 90s if it worked out, why even bother pretending otherwise.

Whether or not Rare could have actually made a good game with these graphics is an entirely different story. If the gameplay was going to be comparable in scope to something like ALttP they would either have to rehash the shit out of these backgrounds (which would have gotten old fast) or else make like 200 more backgrounds that are all as detailed as this (that would cost a gorillion dollars) and built some fun gameplay on it. Even if they just 1:1 tried to copy Zelda gameplay there probably would have been a hard limit on how many enemies or interactive objects could be on screen at once just from how big everything is, it probably would have been really simplistic.

>This would have given people heart attacks in the 90s if it worked out,

People who had already seen the Donkey Kong Country series and the SNES port of Killer Instinct? Why? It just looks like that, except with uglier characters and a flatter-looking world. It's impressive, but hardly the MOST impressive.

Big sprites were great before 3D was showcased. It was too late.

Silicon graphics had that special charm that cannot be recreated ever again.

I’m not even sure what point you’re trying to make.
