>>12402465It's not. It's fake real time. You can move around and it functionally means nothins both you and the enemy freeze when you attack. The gameplay devolves into just trading blows and popping pills to get your risk down. It's full of neat ideas, great atmosphere, music, etc but the gameplay is lacking. If it played even like Parasite Eve (which despite the grids plays totally different) it might be way more fun. Run around and actually dodge. The game is being decomped, so hopefully we get a port and some mods. I want Vagrant STory of Time. Real time combat.

>>12403020the most common issue by far people have is using the wrong blade type. there are 3 different types blunt, edged and piercing weapons and you need to keep one of each on you at all times. either try all 3 out on the minotaur and see what does the most damage or use the scan spell if you have it and it will tell you (after you scan you pull up your regular menu to see the enemies info). also use your stat buff and debuff spells (and later on, elemental) if you have them because they are crazy good.
>>12403253yeah gems were really not needed, theres already enough systems in place without them to make you OP. for people like me who actually enjoyed autistically crafting the best gear possible at all times that really destroys the difficulty too. might do a run without gems or magic next time, feel like that would be the sweet spot for balance.
