Call me crazy - heck, call me cookoo bananas - but when I enjoy a classic Pokémon title, I often select one of the original versions instead of the ultimate edition third version.
>>12404989i emulate whichever version I didn't have; e.g. I had Blue as a kid so in modern times I'll play Red on my chinkheld
>>12404989That's because the third versions have always been fun novelties, not definitive editions. Yellow, with its anime tie-ins, was the only third version worth getting.
>>12404996Emerald was the definitive version of Gen 3.>>124049893rd versions are fun to emulate, but outside of Emerald, they're generally not the best way to experience the game.
>>12404989diamond and pearl and some funny glitches to dick around with, but i don't see why you'd want to replay them over platinum
Not retro.
>>12404989Platinum has a Pokémon following you hack though that also fixes the frame rate and it's seriously the best way to enjoy that particular generation. You can also add the fairy type if you really wanted to, but personally I didn't (would change the game's balance):https://pokehacking.com/fangames/following-platinum/If you have a Wii and enjoy some Pokémon Battle Revolution: I can confirm it works great, same as HG/SS.Anyway, if Platinum shipped like this I initially (followers + no ridiculous slowdowns) I can guarantee you it would be remembered as the GOAT, it's mad charming.

>>12405173That's OK with me
>>12405173>he didn't do a Professor Oak Challenge for each gameYou did not beat the game.
I basically agree. Third versions have a tendency to just remove a lot of Pokemon that were perfectly available in the original paired versions, so if you're going to be trading anyways to complete the dex, I don't see much point in playing them, and I think the additions made otherwise aren't worth it.If I want to play gen 1, why should I pick the version that cuts out a ton of Pokemon for the hell of it? If I want to play gen 2 or 3 or 4, why should I pick the one that cuts out several of that gen's Pokemon?
>>12405189Pretty much this>gen 1Getting all three starters is cool, but getting to choose your starter is fundamental to Pokemon.>gen 2Adding a bunch of gay Eusine events and some frames of animation to Pokemon isn't worth losing Ampharos.>gen 3The added story sucks. More trainers with Mightyenas and Golbats. Woo. Nerfing the piss out of Pick Up sucks.

>>12404989Why do sega system threads get deleted but not these?
>got a copy of pearl as a kid for cheap at gamestop>barely played it cause i had lost interest in pokemon at that timeI wish I had been aware of the fucking 2016 reprints when you could still get them
>>12404989I do the same. Third versions always come with monkey's paw "different for the sake of being different" changes that I dislike.
