Finally have a proper shmup setup in my retro collection -- it took me ages to save up and figure out how to "tate" a new monitor. I'm play Guwange, which is Cave's magnum opus and final shmup (Cave is the best shmup developer according to hardcore Japanese players). Only issue is this game is ridiculously hard! Almost impossible imho and the Cat spider boss thing is ticking me off! I'm using Kosame - the girl archer with the wolf. I watched some replays but the japanese players are fighting the Cat-spider boss for sooo long without even bombing, like they are trying to show off and not use bombs, which I prefer since reacting to the bullets is almost impossible for me. Then I watched a western guys' longplay and he was doing insane dodges I can't replicate Anyway /rant over!
>>12409897you do no they made shmups after guwange right
>>12409897Okay. So do you have a particular question or are you just blogfagging? Not your personal blog, btw.
>>12409897never heard of it, looks cool
very cool setup. I like the feel of a joystick but I perform way better on keyboard. Try Battle Garegga sometime it's a classic.
>>12409957>Battle GareggaYes, because looking up guides on how to properly play a shmup em up is so fun.
>screenshot reverse image searches to reddit>the reddit post is somehow much higher quality than OP>retards replying to it unironicallyWowzers, is this the part where OP skin walks as someone actually playing a video game and gets angry at the attention he gets?
>>12409960that's really not necessary
>>12409972The great irony of this video is that digibro opens by saying he can't even 1cc the games on easy and then spends the rest of his life playing Zelda games and rpgs
only trannies play these games desu
why is digibro so bad at them then
everyone knows westerns can't get WRs in shmups so why even bother?
>>12409957>>12409957thanks, I used to play keyboard for platformers but shmup movement is more "fun" on stick imo
it's most a boring simplistic shit genre. being on rails, there are many lulls in gameplay with nothing happening, bordering on movie game territory
>>12409991you must be thinking of jrpgs!
Oh yeah. It's shmup em up time.
Shmups are the most boring, samey genre to ever exist. Even more than fighting games. They both existed to spam Japanese arcades and scam people out of money.
>>12409995Why not reference the furry shooter people actually play, theres a shmup for every fetish dude
>>12409998Overcoming obstacles is boring, for me it's reading 70 hours of dialogue boxes superficially misrepresenting Jung
>>12410002Maybe because that one isn't retro you repulsive illiterate retard
>>12410004>overcoming obstacles is boringThis but unironically. Grinding out runs like it's homework is for autists, nobody sane would enjoy that garbage.
>>12409980That's true. Chads prefer racing games which are more rewarding and engaging.
>>12410005>that one isn't retroAnd yet sharty could spend the entire last thread making hundreds of posts abour a 5 year old Korean rhythm game to derail the thread while mods did nothing, curious. Surely this retro throwback furry shmup is against the rules.
>hold down button>move joystickIs there a more braindead genre?
>>12410008just play Shippu Mahou Daisakusen! or Twinkle Star Sprites you troon, you goober, you flaming f@ggot!>>12410007>the best, challenging action packed games full of mind bending puzzles and mechnical complexity are boring and INSANE!agreed they are "insane" (in the good sense) but definitely not boringyou must've been dropped on your head as a baby and educated by tiktok, monkeys and blue-haired jarpigs
>>12410019>move hitbox around screen at pre-determined patterns>mechanical complexityLOL
>>12410010I don't know what the fuck you're trying to say and you sound insane
>>12410015beat em ups are the true knuckle-dragger genre
Tips for OP and others. Try to master some stages while making others "passable"For survival, I call a stage “mastered” if I can no-miss, no-bomb it consistently. That said, I rarely go that far. I’m usually fine with “passable” which means good enough that, combined with the rest of my run, it leads to a 1CC. It’s mostly resource planning: how many lives or bombs can I spend here and still survive what’s next? Hit that quota and move on.For scoring, “mastered” would mean near world-record level. Realistically, I aim for noticeable gains over my old average. Example: In Deathsmiles, with Casper in the Forest, top replays hit about 45m. I averaged 20m, grinded it to 30m, called it good, and shifted focus. I rotate stages, boost each a bit, then stitch it into a full run and watch the PB climb: 241m to 250m to 277m. Same goes for Mushihimesama and Futari (my bread and butter games)And yeah, even when I’m not playing, I’m “training.” Mentally. I recall stages, movements and patters in my mind and form a "memory castle" of sorts. So I can train while not playing and not watching replays. Totally counts. You really need to be in touch with your meditative and spiritual side to get good at shmups and I mean deep introspection and honesty, something that surprises me when seeing how good T3 Kamui is at Garegga yet he is completely self-deceived in some aspects of his life.
Something I've noticed is that generally shmups whole heartedly embrace Japanese culture and frequently reference Japanese philosophy and aesthetics, whereas jrpgs constantly deconstruct and shit on Japanese society while referencing western mythology. Why is that? I think it's no coincidence that genshiken constantly references shmups and fighting games, but scarcely ever references jrpgs outside of them as existing as characters for whores to cosplay as.https://youtu.be/EzptQtXOPJg
>>12410035>memory castle imagining stages and patterns when not playing to trainHoly shit I do that too
>>12410043I don't think shmup devs have actual "writers" so they are more rural and nationalist in their mindset, whereas jrpg writers are more cosmopolitan, having received literary training which usually involves a ton of Western Canon, look at Haruki Murakami with his love of jazz and western shite etc
>>12410025You're sort of right but this is what I like about the genre. The core gameplay being extremely simple gets you into a flow state
LISTEN UP /vr/After playing shmups exclusively for over 8 weeks, and watching dozens of hours of twitch streams and finally getting my first ever Batsugun 1CC I have decided to aura-farm my skills by playing Dodonpachi seriously, become a giga shmupChad and mog everyone including the top japanese superplay leaders. Plus I have a confession -- every other genre, every NON-SHMUP, is pic related tier aka retarded piss easy in comparison!
>>12410073All these "superplayers" are going to be shitting their pants soon.
>>12409897It took you years to figure out how to flip your screen vertical??? Kek
>>12410101you also have to configure the software/system to match it perfectly not so simple
>>12409972>Trixie the Golden Witch
>>12409897>Finally have a proper shmup setup in my retro collectionCool. Post a pic of it.

anon: shmups are boring I don't get itshmups: https://streamable.com/m3lcoh
>>12410210>>12410218amazing lel
how does one get into shmups anyway? where to start?
>>12410307
>>12410052>I don't think shmup devs have actual "writers"https://youtu.be/GVOZai8cFRISeems pretty good to me
>>12410043The appeal of RPG's to Japan includes the western fantasy aesthetic, that's probably it. Fighting games universally tended to be a working man's genre, due to being centered on the arcades and easier to access than buying a console. I don't see any connection beyond that, the only "Japanese" shmup I know is Touhou, which you can call me secondary or tourist over, but it's aggressively Japanese on purpose while the rest of space ships.
Also who's the girl next to Reimu
>>12410339Many "space ship" themed shmups are about some eastern Buddhist cycle of death and rebirth and stoic resilience in the face of overwhelming odds, often sacrificing oneself in the process. I'm not really sure why you felt the need to comment if you don't know, but you play rpgs so I guess you're retarded or something.
i am trans btw if that matters
>>12410346Congrats on the transition, lilith.
>>12410359Ironically, the digibro video posted most greatly reflects you, as this individual is a brony who's spent too much time on 4chan that is more enthusiast about making superficial analysis on video games rather than actually playing them. I feel a lot of what's left on 4chan is like digibro.
What I find funny about the unironic seethe over jrpgs is that it comes from a /vg/ discord where autists were trying to lord it over others with score and 1ccs and the people they were trying to beat, or shit on, were off playing Arc the Lad and didn't give a shit. They were unironically upset that other shmup players weren't exclusively playing shmups.
>>12410368What in the hell are you even talking about
Not a single person here is responsible for flooding every single board with 20 "what am I in for" rpg threads per minute and it's funny to me that the guy who's been shitting up the thread with concern trolling outted themselves as an rpg tard immediately. Any time someone is shitting up a thread if you bring up rpgs they'll take immediate offense to it. They truly want every board to be nothing but rpgs.
>>12409897>Cat spider boss>jap players milkingdon't use scoring strats>western longplaythose are all TAS cheat runsfor cat spider, For the Cat Spider boss in Guwange, stay low center and micro dodge the spreads. Destroy side turrets quickly to reduce pressure. Use shikigami to control popcorn enemies and manage bullet density. During the fast phase, stream bullets horizontally instead of panic dodging. Bomb early if cornered you're not scoring anyways. just find a normal 1cc or no death run replay and check that out>>12410309it's trash, I Must say.>>12410368>>12410391only ricky was unironically seething at jarpigs, the rest of us were just having a laugh
>>12410363>schizo nonsense rambling after showcasing it can't converse like a human aight, hon
>>12410368>>12410391You type like you're gonna burn down an anime studio
>>12410407I don't have a problem with rpgs, I just think it's obvious there's someone spamming the board like an absolute retard and there's a seething moron that has to go into every thread and scream about trannies and "memoslop" whenever it's not an rpg. And regardless of my personal feelings it's the dumbest genre you can play, I really DO truly believe that, and it has zero gatekeeping as a result so it attracts the biggest retards. And that's not funny to me.
>>12410416How is talking about a video posted in the thread "schizo nonsense"? Digibro is a person who feels he does not need to play video games because he already beat them in his mind, and writes video essays on how he totally vibes with them and they fit into his hipster auteur life style. He's the quintessential 4chan poster, because, well, he's literally a 4chan poster. It's like Clayton making FF8 threads around the clock and dodging every human being on earth in Karnovs.
>>12410449>>12410460no one asked for this incoherent rant stay on topic what are you playing?
>>12410464I'm playing ketsui
Is it actually easier to get a WR in "easier" shmups or does the skill ceiling eventually equalize
>>12410472Beating a DDP 800 million tier World Record is going to take maybe 6-10 years of consistent daily practice until your asshole and elbows get blown out from sitting down so much, while a WR in an easy shmup won't be anything like that
>>12410478>Beating a DDP 800 million tier World Record is going to take maybe 6-10 years of consistent daily practiceDude I don't think this is true at all, you got 19 year olds breaking records and shit
>>12410481Depends on optimization of the game and player potential. Hituji was at 740million in 2014, then 750 mill in 2015, and broke 800million in 2020,, note that he started playing DDP in early 2000s so already had decades of experience
>>12410490>hitujidamn I miss going on twitch and being able to see hituji or tes do insane runs daily

>>12410719Look at how many people fell for it. /vr/ is full of retarded normalfags now, not even Facebook is this dumb
>OP makes an active thread>shmupfags SEETHECurious?
Reminder this seething tranny posted his top 100 games on /v/ and it was full of RPG shit
>>12410779What shmups do you play, post your 1ccs. You've been in these threads foaming at the mouth for months, even I'm starting to recognize you now.
>>12410802I don't. I only play good games.
>>12410805You're definitely not making me dislike the person you're complaining about, and isnt openly admitting you're in here just to complain about shmups completely justifying everything they've said? This is so fucking weird dude. I'm gunna be honest, I've been seeing you shit up a lot of threads so I've done some light estalking and here's what I found out about you1)You're the person who makes Alice threads on /v/2)You post in black souls generals3)You post in touhou threads but have never beaten a touhou game4)You samefag extremely maliciously and are what I refer to as a "board killer", or one of the schizophrenic individuals who moves onto boards and just sits there for 18 hours at a time bumping the worst shitposting threads off page 10 to ensure content is as low possibleSeeing shit like this really makes me wonder if 4chan is going to be around much longer.
>>12409897>I want to shmupOh boy, I hope you have a TurboGrafx 16.
>>12409960>autist fails at videogame before he even begins playing
I'm trying to refine my routing for stage 6 in DoDonPachi with A-L and this is what I got. If there's something I'm doing wrong here, let me know so I can improve upon it.https://streamable.com/otikak
>>12410959seems like you have a general idea of what's going on but haven't routed it completely and since you're relying on reading patterns and reacting you're doing some unnecessary risks, A-L is a fast ship but you don't have to zip around like crazy all the time, you almost got clipped quite a few timesdid you watch Pan's videos on safely clearing DDP? He uses a different ship but the ideas are still valid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGib_1e6gaEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXoxIXS-jTU
>>12411012The problem with his videos is that he doesn't seem to go for the bees. Though I'm not playing for score, It'd still be neat to route around getting all 13 bees each stage. And yeah, I have some close calls a bunch of times. Some changes to my movement to avoid unnecessary risks should be the way to go.
>>12410816>Seeing shit like this really makes me wonder if 4chan is going to be around much longerHopefully not. The site has no preventive measures for this kind of malicious shitposting, and people eventually just leave. Slow boards like /3/ and /ic/ are completely unusable at this point because it takes only one permanently online schizo to drive them into the ground.
