And I still had a question. Some anons were saying that it has stuff no one else has but i don’t even know wtf this even is: >>12421121 #
Teknoparrot is the most up to date on myrient as well, the eggman repo also seems to only be on there.

wtf is an eggman repo or a temperate. Seriously. And why is it so rare or not found on any other rom site. Anyway, continue discussion or not I was just curious what that even was.
>>
>>12421962
Teknoparrot fuck autocorrect
>>
even if the site is closing it's good to at least have the lists of stuff that was on there so i know what's missing in other sets. idk what it has that doesn't exist anywhere else either but it seems they had the most up to date sets of most everything. hopefully something else crops up.
>>
>>12422013

Those posters are third-world zoomers, Anon. Just report them for extremely low quality and save yourself the time and effort of interacting with them. They’re not our equals, just avoid them.
>>
Other than ROMhax and fan translations, what made that site so special? I just use those sketchy sites at the top of Google that you have to do things like try a download link 2-3 times before it shows the right file instead of an exe. Sometimes they'll drive by download on you but just stop any download you didn't ask for. Checksums check out, only the game file in the zip? Good to go.

>muh RAM prices
This is bullshit, they don't need a current-gen server using DDR5 or DDR4 RAM, there's plenty of older servers out there using DDR3 which is still dirt cheap. I know because I have one at home I just bought RAM for. 32GBs of DDR3 for $25. Runs current and up-to-date Linux just fine. Given they are just a file-serving website, they don't need high-end hardware anyways.
What's the real reason they are shutting down?

90% of that is bloat, repeats, and BluRay empty space games.

~I have every 2004 home console and older
~All handheld consoles before switch
~Also a full set for Wii.
Pretty much just avoided BluRay consoles and xbox 360. and switch.

This all fit within 15tb. Because I downloaded "1 game 1 rom" type files, and sets where they didn't fuck around and give alternative or edited files. Like why do I need Sonic 2 in 87 variations?? All this from elsewhere and better than myrient lmao.

Even the shadiest sites often have dozens of versions of a game. Picrel is just languages but other games have revisions and laguage versions. I even see weird romhacks and homebrews, particularly on one site that isn't picrel.
I don't think we're missing anything by having to, heaven forbid, use sites with pop-ups and scam link ads.
You shoulda seen watching streaming anime in pixelated 144p around '05, you'd get popups every single time you clicked anywhere on the page, but it's easy to just look at where the links go and not run or download anything. Never got a virus, and I have a sec+; I'd notice more-easily than most.

Arcadeitalia's mame DB is your friend, it's slow as shit 24/7, but they're the most comprehensive resource on exactly what roms/bioses you need for every game and each exact mame version, they don't host the games of course, but useful to check your files with. In modern mame versions, it should already tell you what you're missing, just look that file name up in whatever directory you downloaded it from.

Just Google [game name ROM] and go to one of the sites at the top of Google. This is how I've done it for 26 years. Just learn how the sites sometimes hide the real downloads and don't download anything that isn't the size of the game.
Or torrent, no doubt the place has been flooded with new entire console romsets in the last few days.
>>
>>12422325
In all my years of downloading roms Myrient was the best sight to use. That said, you're right, this isn't the first time one of the biggest rom sites went down and it wont be the last. Still sucks though. Myrient will be missed.
>>
This is just another FOMO with a rom site closing down, normie retards are probably mass downloading stuff just because they read about it on reddit.
You can find fullset of older consoles everywhere.
Sure, there's some PS1 ISOs that you probably won't find on spike's website that myriant has, but even so there's a billion rom websites on the internet.
The only media I like hoarding are vidya soundtracks and magazine/artbook scans, because some are really hard to find and you never know when the internet archive will get nuked.

There are 2 types of "private". These are the .dat sets that No-Intro doesn't give you direct access to without an account, which includes the GOG set. The ones marked as "Private" are the homebrew ROMs still being sold.
The rarest sets tend to be these private ones and Redump's IBM - PC set.

>>
>>12422802
Correct. Looking at the discussion around it on various places, literally all anyone is talking about is the most basic shit like the Redump and No-Intro sets and how they need to be backed up, despite already being fucking everywhere. None of them care about the actual rare and obscure shit that's at best haphazardly backed up across 500 different sources. There's an absurd degree of shit on Myrient that has no relevance to what a ROM site would usually host, and which a potential successor is most likely to omit.

I'm sure there are based autists quietly working away in the background to make sure all this stuff survives, but all the average retard cares about is making sure Mario Kart 64 doesn't become lost media because one site shut down.
>>
>>12424059
Myrient had FTP access for the first few years of its existence. It was closed in 2024 as a cost-saving measure, since the brown horde was starting to hammer the site by then.
>>
>>12424182
You say you care about the obscure shit. What I hear is you liked that someone was hosting it all with no ads, which is nice. But don't act like you're too hardcore for mario kart or whatever when you're really too scared and poor at using computers to torrent or use regular ROM sites with difficult ads. You're pirating something, looking at where a link goes and verifying the file size before running something isn't a big task.
>>
>>12424194
You're so brown that you failed to even comprehend my post and responded with a non sequitur. Impressive. Very nice.

>>
>>12423647

Because building a rom library is a slow and fun process if it is on of your hobbies, you slowly curate the systems over the years to only have games you're actually going to play and not be one of those cringe hoarders (that doesn't do it to preserve it, those I respect) that just have to have everything and then never touch it. And myrient have all the libraries so it's really easy to get everything in one place.

Wish I could just put all six download "slots" you get into a single file to speed it up rather than download six files at once all at the same speed regardless if you are downloading 1 or 6. Is Myrient self-hosted by its owner, or is it hosted by an external company? The shutdown announcement makes it sound like the latter. After the shutdown, will the person running the site still have access to the files, or will whatever company is hosting it just delete everything? Since Myrient allowed files to be submitted directly, I'm concerned dumps uploaded directly by their original dumper and other rare files such as >>12425064 won't have a mirror elsewhere, public or otherwise.

So before it dies, is there any library on there that's particularly tough to find? So far I've only got the Wii U exclusives as they have the updates and DLC prepatched in.

I know it's not strictly within the scope of the board, but this has scared me so I'm trying to finish my hoarding.
Is there anyway to download seventh gen and onwards roms pre-packed with their DLC relevant updates?
>>
>>12427459
for the Wii U library, Myrient has they prepatched and the DLC applied. For the 3ds you usually have to do that yourself by finding the .cia for the upadates and DLC and installing them via your emulator of choice. For 360 and PS3 I'm not really sure.
>>
Can we go back to small IRC channels and !get ting roms the old fashioned way? It was so comfy.

Download speeds are truly slow these days. Poor server is getting milked dry.
>>
Is there a CRC list of the files on Myrient anywhere? Some of the larger files have stopped and needed to be resumed dozens of times. A few even got completely stuck and no matter how much I stopped and resumed them would not progress, requiring me to delete them and start over. Want to make sure they didn't get corrupted throughout all that, apparently it got to the point that the USB drive was being overloaded with concurrent downloads.

There are things that are hard to near impossible to find elsewhere, that's what concerns me, not the redump or no-intro sets that you can find everywhere.

There are terrabytes of leaks on there, all the original links to those are long dead from takedowns. There is the Teknoparrot archive, best I could find was pieces of it scattered here and there on IA where they were all in different formats or modded or even password locked. There is the Eggman archive, a very very extensive list of official and unofficial Touhou games and media very neatly categorized. That's just from my general browsing.

But yes, it was also a great place just to get just about any game since the speeds were fast, it was well curated, there was no account or ads or daily downloads or any other such bullshit, and just about everything was there and neatly categorized. It will suck that this will be gone, IA speeds can be a joke, but the part I am more worried about is the stuff I mentioned above and likely a lot more I didn't notice that isn't as easy to find, or some stuff that may have even been exclusively uploaded there.

those indeed were the days, i used to buy a subscription to both every month, also filesonic.

>>12423745
>Was it like the files forum on SA?
it was literally like mega, megaup, fichier, mediafire, you had a download limit but could get unlimited downloads by paying £5-10 a month, there was a massive crack down, megaupload got fucked despite being china based and rapidshare shat bricks and stopped downloads and other followed suit.

now 15 years on we have the mega fichiers and mediafires. whats a shame is so much stuff you'd find links for on megaupload and rapidshare which fucking everyone uploaded to, you couldnt find anywhere else.

even to this day trying to find a rar of an album by some obscure band is impossible let alone finding an album from a well known band.

we now have our upload sites back but no one uploads random shit anymore.
>>
>>12432805
yes all the loader files for arcade titles are hard to find and the eggman collection has probably everything, yesterday i downloaded a folder called support files which seems to have disappeared and swapped out for a folder called extras, looks like there was a lot of the same files in each some may have been just a load of duplicates, still it worries people when things just vanish, oh shit did i get everything?

I only got a 1TB drive for muh hooooardin'. Yesterday I fired up After Burner Climax and Virtua Striker 3 (Lindbergh Yellow & Triforce). In F-Zero AX, ain't no way to emulate the memory card module: it saves progress, but ya can't share it with F-Zero GX.
Sega's arcades are fun as hell and rad. I'll try Namco's today. Soon as I visit and try each one, I'll grind one till I 1CC it or unlock every damn thing. So far, I figger just the arcade games I downloaded'll take me 1-2 years to finish, and I'm being way too damn naive about that.
I'm 30: this half TB of games oughta last me the rest of my life.
By the way, a week ago I beat Xenogears and was fixing to grab the Xenosaga trilogy for PS2, but that's 30GB for all 4 DVDs. The 4 Xenoblade entries? Damn near 100GB. Got 20GB left; I ain't deleting my 300GB of FLAC music or any game for that, and I ain't buying a new drive just yet. Maybe in a few months, I dunno.
Main problem's this mental illness to download everything I might play; not will, but might. Waste of bandwidth and space. I was about to order a BD burner and 20 mil BDs to store this shit, but snapped outta it: how ridiculous is that? My lifespan's too damn short; these games'll outlive me.
Archiving for the next gen is based, but hoarding data I'll never study/try/understand/learn/experiment with? Retarded and futile.
TL;DR: Hoarders are mentally ill.
>>
>>12434624

Is myrient really the based place to get roms for datahoarders?
I want to make a 1g1r set of a bunch of nintendo games and mass downloading from there is a nightmare

In terms of teknoparrot what I'm most curious about is if anybody on fucking earth has been archiving the PROGRAM itself, since late last year the devs have been going scorched earth with paywalling and at this point both in-game saving and vibration/force feedback is locked behind a monthly subscription. IA has some ancient version from 2020 but just something from like last Septermber would be perfect, I just can't find jack shit.

I'm doing the whole Neo Final Burn set since I have a 6TB HDD and have a majority of the major things I wanted downloaded. Next is the DS, PSP and 3DS stuff but those are selected things that aren't going to take up much in the grand scheme of things. I should get the Sega Master Systems set while I am at it I suppose.
>>
>>12435438
>6TB HDD

Might as well get the whole set at that point. It's "only" around 200 GB. Too bad disc-based systems are still out of the question. Even the PS1 set is still a bit much to keep around caually.
>>
>>12435578
I decided on not getting the whole Neo Final Burn set since I didn't realize it was over 8,000 items after getting past all the Ks. So I am just finishing the rest off with Neo-Geo, CPS1 and 2 stuff. And true on the PS1 stuff, but I got all the important NA and JP games I could think off so I am okay with not getting literally everything.

I just figured out how to emulate Sega Naomi 2 in RetroShart.
>D:\Games\Sega - Naomi 2
>initd.zip
>D:\Games\Sega - Naomi 2\initd
>gds-0020.chd
>gds-0020b.chd
I need to run "initd.zip" with Flycast core and it shows the Naomi 2 GDI IPL (Initial Program Loader).
I found the .zip at /files/MAME/ROMs (merged)/ & the .chd at /files/MAME/CHDs (merged)/
So far, so good!
My only issue is with the DAT file needed for the playlist. I downloaded the one from libretro’s Git [https://github.com/libretro/libretro-database/blob/master/metadat/redump/Sega%20-%20Naomi%202.dat], but RetroArch says “Failed to load Arcade DAT file (Invalid format?).” This DAT file contains info about Naomi 2 games in bin/cue format, but it doesn’t account for the “key” (pic/ic2) needed to load the CHD. I don’t get why libretro provides the Sega Naomi 2 REDUMP DAT file instead of the MAME one; Flycast on RetroArch uses the MAME version, but apparently the standalone Flycast can run the bin/cue files. To me this is the most pure and extra virgin retardation, Why would they host a DAT for REDUMP at their Git when it actually requires the MAME set, and RetroArch only downloads an .rdb file that doesn’t include a database for Naomi? So damn retarded.
Anyway, does anyone know where to download a Sega Naomi 2 DAT file for the MAME set? I can’t find it. I think I'll end up editing the filename manually in the playlist and call it a day. What a fucking clusterfuck RA is. Goddamn.

Encrypted sets are for archivist autists who insist that everything must be 1:1 as delivered from Nintendo's servers, which means everything's encrypted. Normally that's decrypted on the console, but there are programs which can do it as well. The decrypted sets have simply had that process performed on them for your convenience, and will work on everything including emulators. There's zero reason to download the encrypted sets unless you're just squirrelling them away on a hard drive somewhere and will never play them.

>>12435898
USA set for the Dreamcast is missing some of the best games on the system, since it died there long before Europe or Japan. The European Dreamcast release is still the best way to play Shenmue II if you don't know Japanese, given the bugs and downgrades present in the Xbox version and the lazy modern port that's based on the Xbox version.

Anyone have a Jdownloader guide (a lot of YT guides that cover almost nothing and I can’t listen to an Indian accent for even 3 minutes without wanting to claw my ears off)? It was working fine, not downloading anything big really I got virtual boy and n64 roms from just using the link all in one go, but now for some reason it completed only half of my psx run and I know I should already have Genesis nes snes etc but I was just going to move on from the psx and grab me some no intro sets but now all I get is a red icon where the download should be going. Mouse over doesn’t explain it and going by the several YouTube tutorials and looking at google for an explanation yielded nothing on the icons meanings and why it just stopped. Managed to download the n64 Roms in total in about 45 minutes and my speed for psx was fine, only would’ve taken 3 hours but yeah now it won’t move at all. It’s probably user error I guess but so weird that it just suddenly stopped working and I can’t even download a small amount of files like less than 2 gigs as in the case of the snes roms.

Just archiving what I can to a 2TB external drive I am just going to keep in storage for when it's needed. Got the Nintendo Gigaleak and Gamefreak Teraleak files, those alone take up a over half the drive. Got a few random things here and there I was interested in, and now I have about 180GB free.

Was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions for anything interesting I could backup in that remaining 180GB. Not really bothering with things I can easily get elsewhere like just about anything from Redump or No-Intro. Was considering maybe the Touhou set but stripped out of most fan content so it would fit, but there are probably better things I can do with that remaining space. What is that "Hardware Target Game Database" listing? Seems to be just random games, hacks, and homebrew for a few dozen systems. Or any really tiny No Intro sets that are just a few megs, or few hundreds at most, that I can toss on there just because they are so small and would take up almost no space for obscure or less popular systems.
>>
>>12437363
Get all touhou stuff.
>>
>>12437364
If I do I can easily get the official stuff for PC with about 80GB to spare, but I can't get the stuff made for other consoles, nor most of the fan content. 100% of all of the Touhou stuff on Myrient is around 300GB. So I can't fit all of Touhou on that drive, and if I only get the official stuff and everything else that isn't a fangame I would still have about 80GB left for other things.

The idea is that you would move the entire folder over to a fresh flashcart. But I think they are curated to supplement the existing redump/no intro romsets.

>>12437514
Depends if you plan to play them through TeknoParrot or not, though I am not aware of other methods to play than other than thorough TeknoParrot, but I also haven't looked into it that thoroughly. Rather disappointing that most of the games appear to be lightgun games. Newer arcade games seem so dull and copy-and-paste compared to retro ones.
>>
>>12437571
Thanks! I may also download that leaked stuff since that Pokemon one I know had a ton of source code leaked in it for the games and handhelds iirc.

As for the arcade games, I sort of would be interested in playing these >>12422067 here mainly. I think that Mario Kart triforce game is okay from what I heard. Side note if you know, what format should I download WiiU games at? I have some that are the encrypted versions and have the full keys list downlaoded, but I wonder if there is a better format for preservation and ease of overall use.
