If yoy haven't started building an affordable collection now, you never will.

Just get a high paying job then you don't have to think about the costs. What you have is a poorfag problem.

Well yeah collecting is expensive if you're only searching for games that didn't sell super well and/or games for systems that didn't sell super well. That's why I don't get into comic book collecting. You really expect me to pay $1.5 million for Action Comics #1?

I have a respectable collection of NES/FC, Saturn, and 2600 games. There will be exceptions just like with Model T guys.
>t. 20 year old zoomer
>>
>>12424878
Just get a flashcart or emulate. If you are insisting on purchasing used games at this point then playing the game isn't what you're even interested, you just want to collect for the sake of collecting, and in that case you probably just want to spend money.
Playing Megaman off a flash cart is literally the same experience of playing it on an official cart.
>>
>>12424910
I am a millennial and I care about movies from the 50s-80s. I can't speak for everyone else, but you don't have to grow up with something to enjoy it.
>>
>>12424924
I don't understand why /vr/ hates young folk taking an interest in retro gaming like they aren't going to be the people who keep consoles and games running in the future. I get being mad at the faggots who want 7th Gen here or just come here to post their startling realization that Mario 2 isn't the real Mario 2, but lord forbid if a zoom zoom asks an earnest question.

You are literally the problem, stop "collecting" and just buy games you actually want to play
You are mad because a piece of plastic is sitting on someone else's shelf instead of your shelf

I really wish all collectors had their games given to people who wanted to play them and the only retro gaming market was people who actually play the games selling them among each other for $5 each. It wouldn't matter how "rare" a game was then because once you'd finished playing it you'd just sell it on so someone else could enjoy it. Instead we have a bunch of hoarders and I can't enjoy legitimate copies of games I'd like to play because theres thousands of them collecting dust on some manchild's shelf.
>>
>>12425324

Guess what nigger these games are free, every single NES game is 100% free given you have a PC made after 2003 and internet access. I wish we had actual moderators to purge worthless shitbag "wawa this item is soo expensive bubble this bubble that" no one cares just play the fucking game.
>>
>>12424954

I like collecting and owning games that I enjoy. What I will never understand is people who collect full sets or stuff their shelves with a bunch of garbo platformers and sports games. That seems performative to me. But then, I'm sure most people would argue that me owning CIB of hundreds of NES, SNES, PS1, TG16 etc titles is performative

I've yet to have seen an argument against game collecting that isn't just sour grapes. The only one that holds weight is trying to have complete sets because that's retarded, but even that still boils down to "You have something I want". Emulation is awesome, buying original hardware and games is awesome, don't be a fag and fight about it.

The truth is once prices come down, that will mean retro gaming isn't trendy anymore so you won't be care anymore.
Every trend chasing nostalgiafag thinks he's a special snowflake and prices should come down so they can be 'cool' like the youtubers they watch.
>>
>>12424878
it won't, why do you think it will get cheaper? the games will only get rarer since they're not being made anymore so it will get more and more expensive in time
>>

the funny thing about collectors is, that they are usually the ones with low incomes. you would assume they have a lot of disposable income but most of them dont. they literally slave away most of their wage for this crap. unironically financial illiteracy. as I see it they are on the same level as drug addicts and I mean it.
>>
>>12430404
Nailed it. I know a homeless guy who squeegees car windshields for tips at red lights and he has a complete N64 collection with most of them graded and CIB.
>>
>>12428431
They don't actually want the prices to go down, they want that to happen only momentarily so they can buy what they want but after they're done they want prices to go back up so they can brag about the games they bought for $5 are now worth $100. They want for people people to stop caring about retro games only so they can go to flea markets and catch some old lady selling her son's old games for $1 a piece but they want those games to still be worth $100 on ebay so they can brag about how they found rare games for super cheap just like their favorite youtubers (nevermind the fact that what those channels did never amounted to more than just straight up robbing people who didn't know the value of the things they had).

They don't actually want the bubble to pop, they just want to go back in time so that this time they're not late to the party.
>>
>>12430404
I play TCGs, mostly MTG, and I always felt jealous of some people I knew who had very valuable stuff while I agonized over building a new deck. I just assumed they were paid better than me. Then one day I opened a somewhat expensive card in a draft and I wanted to sell it, one of said buddies said he wanted the card but he asked me if I could save it for him until he got paid because he didn't have the money right now. That's when it hit me that these guys don't actually have more money than me, they just drain their bank account to the bottom dollar on this stuff. Real eye opening experience.

On the contrary! Rarity has absolutely nothing to do with value.
Or did you really think Maze Action for PS2 sold well? Of course it fucking didn't. Yet it's still priced roughly the same as Final Fantasy X which sold incredibly well.
And despite that a game like Scarface: The World is Yours is selling for nearly 4 times the value of either FFX or Maze Action. Despite selling over a million copies and well enough to get multiple value line reprints in Platinum and Greatest Hits across multiple regions.

Probably this. But gen-z might carry it on for a while kind of like how gen X and millennials still have demand for vintage hi-fi despite it being a boomer hobby.
Though specifically NES collecting will die with millennials.
>>
>>12434164
Rarity is one part of it but other factors play a part in determining these prices too like nostalgia, meme factor, game quality, and attention from ecelebs. Not to mention the fact that Scarface specifically happens to be a foundational piece of black culture that's probably one of the most referenced pieces of media in the history of hip-hop
