Thoughts on the 90s Hanna-Barbera revival and its Taito video games?

>>12426832FLEENSTONES!??
>>12426832I don't think I've actually played any of those. I remember a thread here about the Jetsons game being a palette swap of some Japan-only IP but that's all. care to give a quick rundown, anon?
>>12426832The last level of that game is pretty brutal.
>>12426846IIRC it was the other way around, The Jetsons game is the original, and it got reskinned in Japan into an anime girl game. They're all quality platformer action games with variety and early 90s SOVL.All the NES, Game Boy and SNES H-B licensed games made by Taito are fun
>>12426863I was going to say Widget isn't fun, but that's Atlus
>>12426863The snes flintstones game that is themed like a board game kind of out stays its welcome for me.
>tfw no Herculoids bmupWhy
I miss when japanese devs made games for wrstern IPs.I also miss the old West.
>>12431238Why is this not a thing anymore?Think the last time I remember this happening was Platinum doing the Transformers game, but that was already rare.I guess Marvel vs Capcom Infinite also counts.
Their legacy is basically summed up by a swede saying the title of a Mario bootleg in a funny intonation.
>>12433358If you want to minimize it like that, then everything can be summed up with whatever modern soulless event, but bah, the legacy is being good games of Hanna-Barbera IPs made by Taito
>>12433141>Platinum doing the Transformers gameIs it all Hasbro owned or do Takara-Tomy still have some ownership over Transformers? Whether Transformers is American or Japanese is weirdPlatinum also did that one Avatar/Korra game that you can't buy anymore too>I guess Marvel vs Capcom Infinite also counts.Arcsys is making a new Marvel fighting game right nowThere's way more but I don't remember and also no retro
>>12426832>Thoughts on the 90s Hanna-Barbera revivalI do have thoughts on that. It's interesting and the look definitely influenced the "blocky" and thick lined look of cartoons of the late 90's and 00's and I don't think plenty of people noticed it. It started with HB reruns, and Cartoon Network rerunning them and hiring people who had a lot of nostalgia for that era of cartoons(think Dexter's Lab or PPG), then the art style just stuck and other companies with no connection with HB or WB started mimicking the art style until it was its own thing.
>>12433358Not everyone is as obsessed with gay YouTubers as you
>>12433358Pretty sure they still sell cereal
>>12433998Yeah, true. In fact all these "cartoon cartoons" were produced by Hanna Barbera company or at least I remember the logo being there. The first one of their originals were 2 Stupid Dogs which I think disappeared after Dexter and PPG took over.It was kind of a lite Ren and Stimpy, the tourettes little red hood was funny though
>>12433141Japanese economy goin the shitter? western devs becoming more cheaper and some making ''just mid enough'' games in the 2000s? racism?
>>12426832Flintstones games are actually pretty sweet, at least the two NES ones and Treasure of Sierra Madrock on SNES.
>>12435454>It was kind of a lite Ren and StimpyIt was absolutely like Ren and Stimpy, it was basically CN's response to it, Ren and Stimpy was huge. And Disney had its own response too, I forgot the name but it was mostly lost media for decades until a few years ago when some episodes were found. It didn't succeed that muchThe funny thing about Ren and Stimpy is that it had its own nostalgic art style and aesthetic going on too, and probably set a precedent for cartoons calling back to 50's-70's looks for a while.
>>12428798This but for Thundarr
>>12435454>>12435816John K even contributed a bit to 2 Stupid Dogs as a consultant. You can see his names in the credits for some episodes. On top of that, the Two Stupid Dogs creators worked for Spumco on Ren & Stimpy for a bit.https://bakertoons.blogspot.com/2011/08/donovan-cook-interview-part-1.html>You worked at Spumco on Ren & Stimpy?>I did, yes. For a little while. I was at Spumco when all the really nasty stuff went down, when Nickelodeon shut it down. I left Disney, I was 22. I thought it would take me few months to sell Stupid Dogs. Ha ha. Took a year and a half. So in the meantime I did a few things and I was fortunate enough to meet John K. and spend some time there. I had never done any television work before so my first lessons in how to make TV cartoons was at Spumco with John K. so that was a great time for me. I learned alot from John, and Ron Hughart was there. Ken Bruce and Dan Jeup were there at the time. Those guys were all there directing and I came in as an assistant director and really learned alot about television and how to keep it from getting too rough around the edges. But then all hell broke loose. Luckily that happened right around the time when we had just finalized the deal with Hanna-Barbera so the timing was okay. So I left Spumco and went directly to Hanna-Barbera to start working on Stupid Dogs.
>>12436067>the Two Stupid Dogs creatorsDidn't mean to type plural, just meant Donovan Cook.Other relevant question and answer from the link:>What did you do as an assistant director at Spumco?>Spumco was a great place. They were very hands on. They did what's called character layouts. Once the storyboards were done you would make story reel, or what people now call an animatic, to time out with the storyboard and the dialogue tracks. And then instead of immediately shipping it out overseas they would do character layouts, where alot of really talented artists would do, not all the key poses you would use if you were to animate, but, say, if you were going to have a scene you were going to animate with it was going to have maybe twelve key poses, in the character layout you would probably do maybe four or five of those, the really, really key ones. And so as an assistant director I helped work with the directors in timing some of the character layouts and if something wasn't working I would do some fixes to it. So I was there as a second hand to some of the directors, dealing with timing and character poses and things of that nature.
>>12426851The last level of Dino Rock is brutal too. There's this rock that chases you and I couldn't figure out the solution until I looked it up on YouTube
>>12435745Yup the Taito games. Also the Mega Drive one
>>12426832The genesis Flintstones game is one of my favorites for the system.
>>12435816>And Disney had its own response too, I forgot the name but it was mostly lost media for decades until a few years ago when some episodes were found. It didn't succeed that muchI think that was Schnookums & Meat, which only got 13 episodes. They were as shameless an R&S knockoff as it got, but the supporting features Pith Possum and Tex Tinstar were generally better-received.
The real crime is we never got a R&S game developed by Taito
