>From a 2002 Interview with Ezra Dreisbach - the lead programmer on Saturn's Powerslave

>Matt: How did you feel about the two platforms, Saturn and PSX?

>Ezra: I did do some work on the PSX later. After Saturn Quake was done I did a quick port of it to the PSX. Lobotomy was really hurting for cash at that point, and I hoped that we could get some publisher to sign us up to do PSX Quake. But for some reason, we couldn't get anyone to go for it. Lobotomy folded soon after.
The most striking thing about the PSX port was how much faster the graphics hardware was than the Saturn. The initial scene after you just start the game is pretty complex. I think it ran 20 fps on the Saturn version. On the PSX it ran 30,but the actual rendering part could have been going 60 if the CPU calculations weren't holding it up. I don't know if it would have ever been possible to get it to really run 60, but at least there was the potential.

>Other than that, it would have looked identical to the Saturn version. Except for some reason the PSX video output has better color than the Saturn's.

>So I know something about the PSX. And really, if you couldn't tell from the games, the PSX is way better than the Saturn. It's way simpler and way faster. There are a lot of things about the Saturn that are totally dumb. Chief among these is that you can't draw triangles, only quadrilaterals

Saturn bro... I thought lobotomy were our guys...

Literally who? Anyway everyone already knows the psx is dev friendly and the Saturn is complex
>>
>AHHH I'M TOO WEAK please spare me PlayStation-sama!!!

>AHHH even on 2D i'm too weak i must run at half speed!!!

And yet Saturn Powerslave > PSX Powerslave
Hmm...

*photo burns*

No one is surprised or should care about this. PSX was a better console with a better library. Having said that I'm still happy with my Saturn too, it has a unique library with a lot of stellar games. I don't have to choose as an adult which one I have to exclusively play, I have both and like both.

PS1 push more polygon than the N64
>>

That's interesting because I remember an interview with Lobotomy in Edge magazine (I think you Ameriburgers had the same magazine but it was called "Max Awesome Power") where the programmers said Saturn hardware was fascinating and had more potential than PS1.

SCROLLING? YOU STEAL GAMES FRAMES
>>
Powerslave on the Playstation fucking sucks. Terrible framerate and massively cut down levels. You could probably count on one hand the amount of Playstation ports that were superior, if any existed at all.
>>
I like my Saturn and acknowledge that the game library is lacking unless you're an JRPG or arcade game enthusiast. I would say the only major multiplats the Saturn got (games that defined the 5th generation) are Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. The fact it died in 1998 didn't help. I really like Bulk Slash. Its criminal that never got released in the West

I stopped liking the Sega Saturn

Shitty port.
>>12431034
Different programmers, also Ezra said somewhere that this was his "first real game industry job" so he "cared a lot".

Threadly reminder the anti-Saturn schizo and the Sega System schizo are the same person

cope multiple people realize the saturn is a shitty console
>>
>Except for some reason the PSX video output has better color than the Saturn's.
Umm excuse me but John Linneman of Digital Foundry told me that Saturn's colors are deeper and richer than any system available at the time or since! he also said it was a 2D powerhouse!

The PSX could push more polys than the N64.

I still think the games were still worthy showpieces for the Saturn. As both the PS1 and Saturn went along, even back then, it was accepted that the PS1 was more capable and easier for developers in making polygonal "3D" games. Their games did show off their abilities to work with the complicated hardware of the Saturn and still push boundaries. Respect to them for their great work.

>for some reason the PSX video output has better color than the Saturn's.
The "some reason" would be the video encoder. And i highly doubt that. Because the Saturns RGB out is crisp and flawless. But thenagain amerifats dont really have RGB XD

His opinion is opposed to the developer. Glad I could translate for you.
