Did I beat the game guys? I didnt follow a guide so this is where I naturally ended through keen level exploration.
>>
>>12432169
>All stars version
>More than 10 lives
OP proven black, gay and retarded.
>>
>>12432175
The only difference between OG and All Stars SMW is the Luigi sprite, stop being a misinforming faggot
>>
I guess, but don't you want to experience all the levels?
>>
Kind of crazy you found out that Valley 2's secret exit on your first time playing the game, but I guess it's more believable than doing the Ghost House secret exit
>>
>>12432169
Yes. Using the star road shortcut also counts, but unlocking all levels and secret paths makes you the ultimate SMW player, which I did.
>>
>>12432169
Not until you complete the star road and forever fuck your save file up
>>
>didn’t destroy all the castles
You didn’t best the game
>>
>>12432198
Check the file name
>>
>>12432169
Congrats on beating the game
>>

>Bowser's back door ending
OP proven to be gay.
>>

Diplomatic victory.
>>
>>12432169
>Bowser’s back door
Heh
>>
>>12432169
>taking Bowser's back door
Huh, thought he would've been the top.
>>
No, OP. That's not even the final world. You'll know when you find it.
>>
>>12432369
Yes I did, it's the same SMW just with a different Luigi sprite
>>
so why did nintendo decide to literally never do an interesting world map again after this game? I really dont get it
>>
>>12432169
Some of the Front Door areas are almost kaizo levels of weird. Surprised there isn't a rom hack that makes it all one sequential level.
>>
>>12432821
I always chose 2 and 5 as the easiest-fastest.
But now I mix it up and it's cool to see rooms I didn't visit at all back in the day, like the one with the jumping bowser statues.
>>
>>12432169
>not using the super secret backdoor
You can do better than that
>>
>>12432169
SMB World is relatively easy to 100%. The generous lives, level select, useful map hints, and ability to start+select out of levels makes it very easy to hunt every corner of every level for secets.
>>
>>12432935

>Why did I build my castle so close to the Star Road??!
>>
>>12432952
Did you really live if you didn't grab two feathers at the secret area, use the star road to grab the blue yoshi, start+select and then take it to whatever level you were trying to beat?
>>
You beat it but you didn't complete it. If that's enough for you that's fine, but you might enjoy finding the rest of the exits.
>>
>>12433458
>>12432935

>>12432230
Yeah I almost want back but I'm trying to play as many games as possible at the moment. Playing Mario Land on game boy at the moment.

>>12432402
Well thanks!

>>12432221
What world is that? Is it located in the forest or the chocolate land?
I unlocked an star road route in the forest world.
>>
How the fuck do you beat the ghost house in the forest?
>>
>>12432235
i hated that and wished they let you change it back with a complete file.
>>
>>12434540
secret exit. no, not that one.
>>
laser suit is real
>>
>>12434540
The entire gimmick of the forest world is looking for alternate routes so Ghost level must have an alternate route.
I actually was looking for an alternate route to continue to the next world.
>>
>>12432169
SMB3 and SMW are both equally excellent games.
>>
>>12434541
Its funny cause I looked it up after posting it and i learned it was Halloween themed . I never realized that as a kid, and now it makes sense that the koopas wore mario masks because to them, that's an evil monster lol
>>
>>12434564
Yep!
Though the previous world was bs.
Loved how you destroy Bowser entire military industrial complex here.
Bowser destroyed its budget after Mario easily overcame them.
>>
>>12434489
>What world is that? Is it located in the forest or the chocolate land?
I mean the alternate exit on the Valley Ghost House
>>
>>12432169
Yeah you beat the game. You didn't complete it yet though. How do you feel about it? If you feel like you cheated the system then go back and do it the standard way, but you didn't cheat, you just took advantage of shortcuts explicitly programmed into the game.
>>
>>12434556
>must use brain
Im fucked then
Guess I'll just watch a walkthrough
>>
>>12434664
It gets worse in the next area where the gimmick is different parts of the level change based on coins collected or time spend on the segment of the level.
Dont feel too bad. Mario 3 had a few castles with a gimmick like that and I had to look for a guide (Not this one but another one). That experience helped here.

From Nintendo's own manual for Super Mario World, it says you don't have to explore all locations to rescue the dinosaurs and save Princess Toadstool, so you're good.
However they also encourage you to search all areas to discover the game's treasures, which is just their way of saying try all of the game's content.

>With a little luck (and help from a magic cape), our hearty crew can defeat the seven worlds of Bowser's Krazy Koopa Kritters. Many locations are well-hidden so explore everywhere and try everything.
>Not all locations have to be explored to rescue the dinosaurs and save Princess Toadstool, but there are many "starry" treasures to be found in far-reaching places. You'll need to search all areas to find out what kinds of treasures are there... in Super Mario World.
>>

INSANE
they're free to spawn out of control now
i hope you like scooping out koopa cum with your mammalian dickhead, cause your princess got castled

You never defined beat so it's a loaded question and a self-made controversy, but well done. Riled a couple.
>>
>>12432169
If you didnt find all exits and didnt collect all dragon coins you didnt beat the game.
>>
>>12434737
>didnt collect all dragon coins
SNES version never tracked them, they're just for 1ups. They also weren't consistent across courses.

GBA version does make them consistent; 5 per course, including courses that never originally featured them like ghost houses and fortresses.
There's a minor 100% reward for collecting all of them.
>>
>>12434706
I like how early Luigi and Mario roles were settled.
Luigi as the guy who can spew exposition while Mario is just there to nod.
>>
Yoshi dying every time you jump off and cast him down a pit is canon. Every egg you find is a different Yoshi.

That's such a weird way to say he causes shockwaves.
Anyway, yellow yoshi is based and I will NOT compromise on this
>>
>>12434771
Yeah I'd call them dust clouds from stomping the ground.
I've never found that effect really all that useful though, whilst Blue Yoshi's extended flight is OP.
>>
>>12434768
Huh? Is this not in the All Stars versions?
Those abilities are available to Yoshi if he eats a different colored turtle. Except the yellow one.

>>

I see.
Whats the point of the mini yoshis then?
>>
>>12434790
You carry them and feed them enemies (or 1 star) and they grow up.
>>
>>12434706
>You'll need to search all areas to find out what kinds of treasures are there... in Super Mario World.
They just don't make soulful manuals like this anymore
>>
>>12434801
They don't make manuals anymore period. You're lucky if you get anything in the case other than a cd/cartridge
>>
The SMW manual gives me a strange memory.
I was just dumped with a gf I was living with, I was devastated, and I remember going for a walk. Suddenly I was in a used goods store, and I saw this guy more or less my age, with a qt girlfriend, and the owner of the store was telling him "hey I got you the thing", and handed him a SMW manual, the guy was super happy and was showing it to his gf. I remember looking at the whole situation from afar and feeling jealousy but not in a bad way, at the same time I was happy for him, how genuinely happy he was, and how sad and hurt I was at the time.
Now I can look back at it and smile though. Hope these 2 are still together and hope he still has the manual.
>>
>>12434784
proof that mario isn't smacking yoshi upside the head to use his tongue ability
>>
>>12435227
So he was pointing all along?!
>>
>>12435230
SMW had a lot of developmental oddities, and it was their first real project with the SNES hardware.
There's weird details like Yoshi having orange arms, that were corrected in the GBA release.

For the animation, it would make sense if Mario pointed, and Yoshi lashing his tongue out was slightly delayed for the time taken to acknowledge the command.
In actual gameplay though, Yoshi's tongue extends at the same time Mario completes that pointing motion, and it makes it look like he's hitting Yoshi in the head.
It may've been that they adjusted the timing of this for better gameplay flow, because a lot of games suffered unresponsive controls where an elaborate animation needed to play out. Things like long wind ups to performing a jump.
>>
>>12435260
>orange arms
I always thought those were the saddles stirrups to rest Mario's feet.
>>
>>12435260
>pointing motion
He punches the stupid dino in the back of the head to make its tongue shoot out
>>
>>12435428
They clearly are
>>
>>12432685
Probably because it's much easier to just make a bunch of disconnected, distinct themed worlds a la SMB3.
>>
>>12436008
Idk looking at the gif it does look like an army, but when playing it looks like the stirrups.
>>
>>12434790
Green Yoshi only gains the powers of whatever colored shell he swallows. The colored Yoshis, however, always obtain specific powers regardless of the color of the shell they swallow, on top of (IIRC) whatever power that shell normally bestows. So for example, a red Yoshi will ALWAYS spit out fireballs, even if they swallow a green, blue, or yellow shell, and the blue Yoshi will always obtain wings.
>>
>>12436008
Was yoshi not supposed to have arms originally?
>>
Anyone British in this thread? Can you record yourself saying Yoshi and post it here? I'm fascinated by the pronunciation.
>>
>>12437541
Won't record myself but I pronounce it like "Yo-shi"
>>
>>12434683
Funny thing is I didn't even know that level had that coin gimmick until like last year and I 96'd the game several times as a kid and even a couple times as an adult. Must have either always played it the same way by coincidence or more likely just forgot the layout every time.
