I can beat CTR just fine but I always got completely filtered by the time trials. I think it's because you really have to autistically plan your boosts around nailing every shortcut whereas in Mario or Diddy you can really just fly by the seat of your pants and if you're decent enough at the game.

One issue with Diddy Kong Racing is that the power ups aren't random, so the higher skilled player always wins in multiplayer.
