I've reached the Gold City and this game is complete garbage. It's unfathomably clunky and has some of the worst bosses and combat I've ever experienced. It's not an old game thing considering Zelda nailed the action combat 7 years prior. This is Nostalgia: The Game, nothing else.
>>12436684Honestly, most SNES games have aged really badly. The Mega Drive library held up much better overall.
>>12436705I wouldn't say most SNES games, but a lot of them. The sequel to this game, Trials of Mana, is vastly, vastly superior and is one of the most impressive games of the era that holds up today.
>>12436684Squaresoft became great with the PS1
>>12436684>This is Nostalgia: The Game, nothing else.i agree but apparently theres romhacks that fix the game so it isnt just a wheel menu simulator
>>12436746I've played the game with the SoM: Turbo mod with default settings before. It removes stamina-based combat and so on, but it's still a lagfest as you wait for allies and enemies to cast their spells. You can use the shortcut menu to select spells in real-time, but you just get yourself killed pretty fast that way. Unless there's another romhack that does something different.
>>12436684The game is complete garbage in the moment you realize that you must have another player to beat the game because the a.i is worst as step on a shit barefoot
>>12436734They went downhill with the PSX.
>>12436817>Look at me i'm a contrarian
>>12436684I love the game and the combat. It's more like Final Fantasy's ATB but with more movement than straight up action combat, I think the rhythm of it feels nice.
Why does Secret of Mana trigger so many?I love it since I played the shot out of it as a kid and I still enjoy it. If you don't like it, cool, play something you do like. This thread is just something that is constant here.
>>12436808Uh, I finished the game fine solo.
>>12436684I've been replaying it recently and still find it very enjoyable. The combat is janky, but it's still satisfying to build up a charge while waiting for an opening amd then unleash it. It's nowhere bear as fun as Beyond Oasis which is my favorite 16 bit game of this type, but to this day I find ot far more satisfying than Link to the Past. Opinions are opinions I guess. Stop playing if you don't like it. I tried at least half a dozen times to get into Zelda Minish Cap because the aesthetics are awesome, but find playing it boring so gave up. If that's your feeling with SoM then just move on.
>>12437171I thinks Trials of Mana or Terranigma are the best of this kind.
The seethe this game causes after so many years is just endlessly amusing to me.
>>12437187SD3 is great, I never clicked much with Terranigma
>>12436684I love the game, but it does have serious flaws.>>12436719>Trials of Mana, is vastly, vastly superiorI really don't agree. I actually find it a bit frustrating that the developers seemed to struggle so much with improving the formula. As ambitious and creative as it was in some ways, Legend has even worse combat somehow.
It's fun with friends
Finished it for the first time recently despite playing it for like 25 years. It was fun, and I want to play Trials soon. Is it overhyped? Yes. But it's a really good game for the SNES, and the music/graphics are really great.
>>12436826Contrarian is pretending like Square wasn't already great when FF7 came out.
