Excellent controller. I wonder if James knew his joystick was supposed to plug into that thing or if he was just fuckin around

That'd be a funny kind of controller to make, force people to use an oldschool phone dial in place of a normal numpad.

>>12442208
Probably didn't, it might have been one of those things some fan sent at some point, without enough context and info. But also the joke was that he went through all of that trouble and still never got to play it.

His opinion seemed to have been that the 5200 was an unnecessary console, because even if the graphics were better, the thing costed more, the games were the same thing, and the stock controllers always broke.

I dunno, the "(works fucking better!)" part of the ebay listing makes it seem like he made the listing himself. That aside, the analog controls did improve missile command.

It was a necessary console if it came out in 1979-1980 instead of the 8-bit computers as intended. But even in 1982 you were better off buying a 400 strictly for gaming instead of a 5200. People tend to think Atari only began to fail in 1983 but that was just the tipping point. They sealed their fate before the 80s even started, and I say this as an Atari tard.

>>12443989
Obviously, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have sourced that thing who knows where (a random yard sale or something).

Sort of makes me think of Commodore trying to make a console in the 90s (CD32), except it was a much worse deal than just buying one of their Amiga computers.

Atari computers seem underrated, actually.

Atari ST computers were well known workhorses for musicians because of its stock low latency MIDI ports. The game selection is fine, nothing like the Amiga. but good nonetheless.

I would be surprised if the Wico joystick was being sold without the numpad since it has the start/reset/pause buttons on it.

atari had that marching powder. shame it didn't help them at all

You would think the fact that the Atari 5200 controller has 19 buttons while the one he ordered has ONE and clearly looks like a 2600 controller would have been dead obvious to anyone at a glance that it's not a 5200 controller. I can't see how anyone could confuse the two unless they had never even once seen or checked what a 5200 controller looks like.

Look I understand that reading is hard for youtube consumers so I included a visual aid. He was clearly fucking around with people like you who didn't know shit, the joystick connects to the number pad which has the start/reset/pause buttons on it required for playing 5200 games. As you can see the numberpad cable has the correct plug and you can see the regular joystick plugging into that.

Hell commodore was still selling the c64 in Europe in the 90s they even had tie in bundles with batman and terminator 2.

Wild if true. Source?

Pretty sure it was in one of the J&M Mondays episodes. Mike said that he was frustrated once he saw that ending of the video, but James had already released it on Youtube, so they didn't fix it.
>>

Honestly it's one of the weaker Golden Era AVGN episodes. He spent zero time talking about any of the games because he wanted to milk the controller meme? Imagine if the Virtual Boy episode ended because the Nerd went blind or something, it'd be a shitty episode. He could've at least riffed on how most of the games are just Atari 400/800 conversions or something.
>>
>>12448587
It works as a short skit episode IMO. They could have made a followup episode though or something.
>>
>>12448565
I'll take you on your word
>>
>>12448587
He basically did, he was milking the whole eyestrain thing
