how is it any different than them being on the floor or in a TV cabinet? if anything, the way the wires are tied up makes it neater and tidier than normal.

the real issue is those systems aren't designed to be ran in that position so would be liable to read errors because the carts are shifting on the contacts in unexpected ways.

It's decorative spoons. In some countries, collecting them was a huge thing in the first half of the 20th century and some old people kept doing that until they were ded.
