The backtracking is tedious but the game is incredibly charming otherwise

>The backtracking is tedious
its a game where you slowly ride around on a childrens roller coaster taking photos, being tedious is literally the point.

Some of the events require you to chain together apple throws and sheeit, it has intense moments

Explain to the folks at home what you appear to think a roller coaster is.

Not that Anon, but, "roller coaster" pretty much defines itself, doesn't it?
>sit in a cart
>it travels on a track
>some are fast (up to 10-15 mph)
>some are slow (walking speed)
>some are steep
>some less so
>some travel a large circuit once (taking about 5 minutes)
>some travel a small circuit multiple times (still taking about 5 minutes)
"Pokemon SNAP!" is equally rollercoaster as it is theme park ride. There are train ride levels, two river riding levels, two flight levels... there's even a space flight level. Your job is, as the vessel's passenger, take pictures with what you pass by.

What's even great about the game is as you acquire new throwing items, new speed techniques, new environment hammers, and even a small amount of steering, you can REPEAT the same levels and discover new paths, new pokemon, and manipulate the 5 minute ride over and over and over again finding cooler stuff and (with better, inherent practice) get better pictures.

It's a fantastic video game.

It’s more akin to a tram of trolley ride than a roller coaster.

I can see your point. But, well, the waterfall/canyon "trolley" is pretty exciting and fast-paced... so maybe some of the (what are there, 6 levels?) are more thrilling than the others.
That, and, you can double your speed or halve your speed once you get the equipment for it. Plus, maybe the pokemon found in certain levels are more fun/exciting than others, for you (for example; the Amazon swamp raft ride and the cave hovering ride wasn't as fun to me as the beach ride or the lava ride).

I never played the sequel, though.

I had a typo there. It’s more akin to a tram or trolley ride than a roller coaster, which was correct and awesome of me to point out.

It's quite literally one of the best video games ever made
>>
Playing the game for score (at least beating the hi-score record in each level) actually adds some challenge since you have to optimize your shots and make sure you have enough photos of each pokemon in each course, so there's some planning required, and you want to use all 60 photos since score adds up for each one.
