Does anyone here have one? Are they worth the $200?How hard is it to calibrate?
I don't have one, it isn't worth the 200 bucks from what I've heard, and calibration is entirely setup dependent (hope you don't have any windows or other screens nearby). As with all camera-in-gun systems, you are limited in terms of how far you have to stand away from the screen, which is a minimum of 1.5x screen diagonal, because the gun has to see the border. With Sinden, the bigger difficulty isn't calibration, it's setting up borders with half a dozen different emulators, which is why most people who buy this shit just run Batocera. I've heard the gun shell is blocky and not very comfortable, too.
>>12448806Why would I need different boarders? I cant just set the boarder for mame, and button configs per game?
>>12448781Get gun4ir or reapers. Sinden is outdated these days kinda like how aimtrack got obsoleted by them (ironic I know).
>>12448854How so?
I have am Aimtrack. I like it but it's basically a glorified Wiimote. I think you'd have the same experience setting a Wiimote with PC emulation and getting one of those gun shells for it.
>>12448834Because mame doesn't run half the light gun titles out there.>>12448919Aimtrak has always been a piece of shit, I'm still annoyed I got scammed into buying a glorified wiimote years ago by retarded boomers who bought light guns as shelf decoration. The newer stuff should at least be accurate, the problem is you have to stand so far away.
>>12448781I heard these aren't that good.
>>12448952>the problem is you have to stand so far away.Huh, I always used it about 1,5 to 2 meters away from the screen. The main issue with them is that once calibrated you're basically not allowed to move. Also PS2 compatibility was nice though I suppose it's probably a moot point now that PS2 emulators have gotten better
Gun4IR is your best option. Also cheap as fuck if you're willing to do some DIY. But supposedly even pre-built ones are cheaper than Sinden.
>>12449462I don't want to build my own gun and I don't want sensors. What i would like to be able to do is have everything set up on an external drive so I can play at home with my desktop or run it off of my laptop if I wanted to take it somewhere.
>>12448858Sinden relies on a built-in camera to continuously scan the monitor for a white border to determine the gun's positioning. This causes issue in rooms with glare limiting the areas where you can play. Also if you plan on playing any game past PS1 without built-in sinden profiles in Bactocera, you will have to fiddle with a third party program to inject a white border overlay into the game. It's a massive pain in the ass when trying to setup the border teknoparrot or modern games like House of the Dead 2 remake.Gun4ir simply uses 4 physical IR sensors mounted to the edge of your monitor/TV. As long as you aren't trying to fit them into a cabinet, it works flawlessly and has no issues with glare or software. Also some people claim it's more accurate/faster than sinden, although I haven't personally felt that myself.
>>12449654Also forgot to add that distance to screen doesn't really matter for these newer systems. If you want to play close you can just put on a fish-eye lens ($5 from temu) and take it off if you want to play further away. But also remember that in the old Arcade days almost all light gun games required you to stand really far back to fire into a tiny 20" CRT or whatever anyways.
>>12449668Case in point.
>>12449668Couldn't you rescale the image to be smaller if you didn't have enough room? Also the ratio for sinden is 1.5x the size of your monitor so a 65" tv would need about 8 feet.
>>12449682>Couldn't you rescale the image to be smaller if you didn't have enough room?Yes, but that requires even more fuckery with reshade and whatever app depending on the game. It's just a huge pain and things are liable to break the more layers of software you put on.t. built an arcade cabinet using old tech and making everything just werk sucked ass.
>>12449696Well, im not trying to build an arcade cab, I want to play on my game room tv.Do you know if it is possible to set up the sinden to work on only 1 display in a dual setup? I have my TV hooked into my PC for when I want to sit on the couch or play multiplayer.
>>12449730>Well, im not trying to build an arcade cab, I want to play on my game room tv.I'm just saying that Sinden is harder to work with because you need additional software to make it work for newer games. If you're fine with that or will only play stuff on bactocera then you're good.>Do you know if it is possible to set up the sinden to work on only 1 display in a dual setup?Of course. As long as you display to a monitor/TV and configure the white border around it, it will work fine.
>>12449757Thanks. I appreciate it.I am really leaning for a sinden, I think, because I really don't want the sensors and being locked to one monitor or setup. Everything i have seen about it seems pretty great after you get everything set up, which does seem like a pretty big pain in the ass.
I've got 2 Sindens and I've used them for a few years now. Batocera on a rasberry pi will let you play almost everyworth while up to Dreamcast well (barring Saturn and model 3). Its literally plug and play. You can probably go up to PS3 or Wii with a decent mini PC but at that point, I'd probably just suffer through Windows. Working with them windows can be really annoying, but worth it for a bunch of the games on Tekknoparrot (silent hill arcade, Rambo, house of the dead scarlet dawn especially, but there is a boatload of them). The tracking is pretty bad if you have a white background, are in a room with a lot of natural light or both. I find I can only use mine well at night but other have had better luck I think. It kind of got me out of a gaming slump when I got them. I think by the nature of their design you won't be breaking any world records, but it's really fun to try all these weird titles that you might not have ever heard of (especially stuff in MAME).
>>12449668>Also forgot to add that distance to screen doesn't really matter for these newer systems.I have always wanted an arcade comparable experience, which is not physically possible with camera gun systems. Yes, there were 20 inch versions of these games. There were also 50" rear projection displays, and this is what I have always wanted from light guns, and what I get from playing on a 35" screen a little closer.
