Original PS1 hardware still plays CD audio in games at amazing quality, but emulated PS1 games all have crunchy and distorted CD audio. Is it because they can't emulate Sony's audio playback chips perfectly?

You hear this best in games like Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil and Spyro games, where you hear all the dead silence and background noises of the voice acting on emulation but on original hardware everything is clear and has full dynamic range without any compression.

Yes we know, Wiistation sucks ass
>>

Sound emulation is always the last thing solved because it's probably a lot more complicated than the graphics side of emulation because of how tight the timings and how distinct sound hardware can be on consoles.

There's this PS3 demons souls vs ps5 demons souls clip that floats around and the PS3 clip showing how superior it is has a fuckload of crackle, clipping and brokenness in it that it makes it look like fans of the original never fucking played the original version and only know shitty half baked emulation.

What does she smell like?

MGS4 sounds incredible on PS3, I wonder how compressed it sounds in the remaster.

Oh good, another shitty bait thread based on a false premise. Metal Gear Solid is a bad example though, bro. Someone will point out that the entire reason they re-recorded all the voice acting for Twin Snakes is because the audio quality of the original recordings was considered too poor to use in a remake.

Yes PS1 had excellent audio quality compared to other Gen 5 disc based consoles like Saturn and Dreamcast. In fact the audio in the PS1 version of MvC1 is FAR better than the Dreamcast version.

Maybe why emulatranny didn’t play original hardware?
>>
>>12451835
Dreamcast has weirdly shit audio. Saturn is great so when ports compromise on it, it's unusual.

>>12451783
It's not a false premise. Emulators generally don't try to make their sound emulation as accurate as the graphics and handling.

Just listen to music lol.

Only the first year or two PS1 games used CD Audio. Majority of titles used a 37.8KHz 4-bit ADPCM (the "XA Audio" files on the disc) streaming format. They all sound crunchy and metallic. Except for the ones that used half the sampling rate like Red Alert, they sound even worse.

What? PS5 Demon's Souls is a remake, not a remaster
>>
Why hasn't CHINA made fake PS1 and PS2 hardware? They already make fucking everything. Just make fake PS1s and PS2s and seal this whole fucking thing.
Man, I hope that all you guys clowning on emulation here everyday are supporting FPGAs so we can all get out of this hellhole present we live in instead of just being "hurr hurr I have original hardware".

I'm muslim and she is literally perfect

In the past I have used epsxe and not noticed issues. I've just done another run through of Spyro via libretro and 2 was crackly and plosive as fuck while 1 and 3 were fine. Dunno what to make of that.
>>
>>12458634
Yeah, I played Spyro 2 on original hardware and then when I saw a clip of it on emulation I noticed immediately how much lower quality all the voices sounded whenever Spyro approaches an NPC. They sounded overly compressed or like they were maybe not being played properly, and every video I looked up that was on emulator had the same issue but to varying degrees.
>>
>>12457994
The thing is that Sony's audio chips are high quality and that any attempt to fake them accurately is likely not worth the cost.
>>
>>12458776
>The thing is that im underage and clueless
many such cases
>>
>>12457994
There's no profit in it. The number of turbo autists who care enough to want to buy one isn't nearly worth the cost of making them.
>>

If the audio chips could be emulated properly, they would be.
