>>12452397>Are these games still fun if I'm not too big into mecha?Dude what the fuck, noThat's like asking "is Mortal Kombat fun if I dislike violence"
>>12452397If you like the idea of an SRPG with emphasis on unit customization yes it's good and the old SRW games are actually challenging (or at least not braindead easy like modern SRW)
Tengai Makyou / Far East of Eden 4marika ~ Shinjitsu no Sekai ~Quo Vadis 2Martian Successer Nadesico ~the blank of 3 years~Doukoku, Soshite...Blue SeedPhotogenicThe Legend of Heroes 3 / White Witch (There's at least one version of this in English already, but the Saturn one is kind of unique)Tokimeki Memorial (not that different from PS version but there are some unique Saturn bits and slightly less censorship)whatever Langrisser games are left untranslated, III and V maybe?
>>12452358I think this game looks great, but it is very striking to me how much it looks like modern furry fetish art, if this came out today I'd expect to find inflation art on the timeline of the artist.
>>12452418Oh, I have a physical copy of the game pictured, I'd love if that got translated.
>>12452425It really was a different world. Shit like Garfield or Looney Tuned would be considered furry today
>>12452406Not really. I don't like mecha but I still had fun with Zone of the Enders and Armored Core.
>>12452418>the Saturn one is kind of uniqueWhy's that? Never played a Legend of Heroes game. Thanks for the cool list.

>>12452491Very interesting. I can only think of anime series that contrasted so starkly with the source material.I wish Suruga-ya's English site wasn't so impossible to work with to find this stuff. The JP site doesn't ship overseas.
>>12452415That does sound pretty cool. I guess as long as the game is fun that's all that matters.
>>12452507>>12452491Found it finally but you see what I mean?
>>12452521suruga's .com site does have a Japanese language mode thoughAlso the product code number in the URL is the same on .jp and .com

What's it like?
Choro Q Park: unique racing gameGrandia - Digital Museum: expansion pack for GrandiaWachenröder - gameplay is bland as hell but it's worth it for other aspectsAssault Suit Leynos 2 Seconding Tengai Makyou IV, again combat is bland for the most part but it's worth it for other aspects
>>12452791>CrestaI - I wouldn't know...
>>12452492>only version with voice actingReminds me of how Saturn had the only voiced version of Tactics Ogre until the 2022 remake

>>12452418>marika ~ Shinjitsu no Sekai ~Is this worth playing if I need text to somewhat understand things (the game has no subs)?
>>12452791It's basically a simple late 80's SHMUP with 5th gen graphics, which you'll either love or hate for that very reason. The fact that there is no scoring is a negative imo, I'm not a scoring maniac but score should be there to incite good playing and reward the player with extra lives.
>>12452418>Tengai MakyouAre those actually good RPGs or just overrated? Like: 'It’s the first AAA JaRPiG IP on a Compact Disc™" meme?
Devil Summoner. Can't figure out why it hasn't been.

Black/Matrix looks fucking cool but it's so obscure i don't think it's ever getting translated. Same with the QuoVadis games.>>12453438The PSP port is supossedly getting an spanish translation this year or the next, fwiw.
>>12453438https://lparchive.org/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Devil-Summoner/afaik this is the best you can hope for currently
>>12452272street fighter alpha 3 should be the easiest answer.
>>12453171I'd forgotten but it does look like cutscenes have no text, like PC Engine gamesmight be an issue
>>12453393Well by the time of the Saturn compact discs were normal so I don't think there's much of that for this oneI still haven't played any others in the series besides the Saturn game but it's pretty cool
>>12452272Do you like shmups?Radiant Silvergun and Cotton 2
>>12453393I can't speak for all of them but 4th Apocalypse was a very cool game. Glad I played it. The scenario, environments, world, and characters were so unique and for a JRPG that they overshadowed the bland gameplay. The gameplay wasn't even bad, just nothing special.
Does OP mean games that are untranslated but text heavy, or untranslated but easy enough to get through without text?
>>12453969By untranslated I mean untranslated. Not sure why you'd think I or anyone would mean the latter.
I've been fighting myself from buying a Sega Saturn (model 1 since I prefer the grey color) since I would want to get a 3D pad with it. I do see some decent deals on the console with a regular controller for like $100, but how reliable are Saturns now adays in regards to their capacitors and such?
>>12454038I can only tell you that the console I have never ran into any issues even after flying all the way from Japan. What games do you use the 3D pad for?
>>12454049Well it would really only be for Nights since it needs a stick to play properly. I could emulate of course, by I do like having the actual consoles for what I play and know of that Saroo device. That said, I would get a Saroo as well and play Sakura Wars, Dynamite Cop, Nights off the top of my head. Maybe try out that Shining Forces 3 trilogy as well since I do like the original game, but still need to play the second one.
>>12454038My US Model 2 I bought back in the day still works perfectly. I never tried the 3D pad but Nights still plays nicely with the regular controller.
>>12453438Probably because - not all but a weirdly large amount of translators are either really great at what they do so romhack literal transmission trendy fluid people ran them off and the other half are insane quite literally. The PSP DS is pretty solid but I forgot how awful some dungeons were it makes strange journey DS look good
Sorry for posting that twice it still bothers me
>>12453664i hope it gets finished soon so we can get an engrish patch
>>12454082Posting what twice?
>>12454069Thanks for the advice! I did see a JP White saturn with a 3d pad and regular controller for $110 the other day, but they looks very brown so I was worried about the condition they were exposed to. Someone else bought it as the seller mentioned it worked, but still.
Since we are talking about the Saturn I may as well ask. I've been having a problem with my 3D pad. Sometimes the L or R triggers will just stop working for no discernable reason until i unplug the controller and plug it again, after which they work fine for a while. It's weird. Anyone else has experienced this issue?
>>12454049ThisI even got one that has serious yellowing and some heat damage in the back (part of the casing is actually melted) and it works like an actual dream. CD drive is fast as fuck and the cartridge slot works fine.
>>12454038My Japanese Saturn was purchased a couple of weeks after launch in December 1994 and works perfectly. Still reads discs just fine, unlike my launch model PS1.
Should i bother buying pic related for my Saturn? Being able to use any bluetooth controller sounds like a dream but there's gotta be some major downside.
>>12454619The downside is that you then won't be using a genuine original Sega Saturn controller, aka the best controller ever made. Why would you want to downgrade?
>>12454621Good point but my Saturn controllers always end dying in less than a year. 3D pads are expensive and rare as hell where I live unless you import them from Japan which takes 2-3 months. Blueretro is a far more convenient alternative, or at least it seems so.
If you were to buy a Saturn, which color/model would you go for?
>>12455736Whatever one they had in store back in the 90s.
>>12453438>>12453701Well okay I'm decided, this is the next Saturn game I'll be playing. Hopefully AI translation works well with it
>>12455860The PSP port is better.
>>12455936>handheld port of a console RPGYeeeeah I don't think I'll fall for that one ever again.
>>12455939There's nothing in that game that necessitates a bigger screen. I don't know any other reason why you'd fixate on console capabilities over handheld. It's a turn-based RPG. Controls don't matter either. It also uses 2D sprites so graphics don't matter. You'll have to tell me what game you fell for.
>>12455739Went with a HST-004I don't really like the black model. Now I'm part of the Saturn gang
>>12452272I know you said Saturn. I just wanted to say how awesome this game was for the Dreamcast. Better than 90% of games out today. If you haven't played this you're most likely a tranny. Anyways have a good day.
>>12456609I'm a beaner, I had Virtua Striker 3 and World Series Baseball 2K1. Virtua Striker 3 wasn’t great compared to Virtua Striker 2 in the arcade, but it still felt like a masterpiece next to 90 Minutes.
>>12452272Gungriffon
>>12454619Now that I think about it, is it possible to map a controller with two analog sticks in such a way that it emulates the functionality of the Twin Stick? I don't have a blueretro so I can't try it myself.
>>12456997It was released in the US and UK and the sequel got a fan translation
Devil Summoner: any protip to raise Demon loyalty? I'm at lvl 19 now and I haven't raised a single loyatly level so far.
>>12454619I have the 8bitdo one and haven't used it much but was very happy to instantly use my series controller instantly and Nights was flawless with the stick. Completely worth it.
>>12457861though it does not support twin stick emulation for Virtual On
>>12457705IIRC you have to predict what kind of action do they prefer to do (attacking, using magic, using defensive magic, etc). Isn't there an auto fight option? That way you can see what kind of thing each demon is into. Also gifts, check what kind of sake do they enjoy and give them that.

I'm curious about the new stuff they added
>>12455736purely on looks I would go This is Cool or western model 1, nice, slick, black. JP model 1 looks kinda whack with that weird grey and blue buttons combo. JP model 2 is alright but being white and how consoles yellow is kinda meh
>progress in the story>new swords available at the shop>they're 0-1 hit swords that miss constantly>you don't have a choice because your old sword is useless at this pointThis fucking game. I like the story/atmosphere so far with the city detective vibes but gameplay feels like such a downgrade from the point of view of someone that only played the 2 Famicom games and the first SMT. The whole monster loyalty system / the fact that you can't control your demons is super shit. Even now I have them at lvl 5 loyalty and they won't accept most gifts anymore and I still can't control them. It's been 20 hours of play, I'm starting to doubt whether this game will EVER let me PICK A FUCKING SPELL. The advanced conversation system with demons compared to the previous games make them unnecesarily hard to recruit too.And then the combat is painfully slow even on the fastest settings especially compared to those previous games I mentionned in which things auto battle could go lightning fast. So now I have a shitty sword that misses half the times at least in this slow situation, fucking great.so the gameplay just feels like "the same thing as before but with a bunch of annoying shit that prevents you from playing". Okay thanks.
>>12452497Excellent game. I didn’t think of it for a translation though isn’t it mostly in english anyways?>>12452791Not great. Many much better shmups on Saturn. The N64 shmup is better. 4/10? I’d love to see Assualt Suit Leynos 2 translated. I’d also like to see the Gungriffon 2 translation finished up. The three Mobile Suit Gundam twin stick games would be great too, I’ll take any excuse to use my twin sticks. I think the second Dungeons and Dragons beat em up is being worked on currently, which is gonna be great. Metal Slug seems like a low hanging fruit for a beginner project. Mystara 2 is untranslated if I remember correctly, I’m not a big rpg guy but I liked the first one.Ninja Jajamarukun Onigiri Ninpouchau Gold or whatever Jap gibberish the title is would be a good deep cut pick if someone wanted to help out the Saturn’s struggling 3d platformer scene. It’s mostly interesting to me because I was trying to figure out if the original full NES game is actually unlockable or if you only get to play a level from it once in a while.Radiant Silvergun could certainly use the Bulk Slash/Stellar Assault treatment with english voices because then maybe I would have a slight clue as to wtf the plot is. But then again idk, that doesn’t even help with other Treasure games like Sin and Punishment.
>>12459371what the FUCK are you talking about
>>12452791Is related with Sol Cresta?
Bros.. look at this.I just got it.It's freaking pristine. Manuals and everything included in the box. Also got 10 japanese games (VF2 and Fighting Vipers are the standouts).I never played Saturn before, I'm so impressed with how well built and polished it feels. I changed the CR2032 and cleaned the lens with a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol.I think I'm in love.
>>12461983Where did you get yours from and for how much?
>>12461983Looks good. A lot of Japanese Saturns are yellow and gross through a combination of aging plastic and being around chainsmoking salarymen in the 90s. I don't use my pristine grey launch model any more so that it can remain in that condition for the house clearance people to sell on Ebay when it's found along with my bloated corpse. Instead I use a late Model 2 that came in the ugly cheap box, since those are a dime a dozen.
>>12461983Updating.The serial on the box and console do match. I did not mention but it came with a memory card. I guess it was owned by a girl, since there are a few Otome game saves in it (and Nights).>>12462535I'm from Brazil, so it was expensive in absolute terms, but relatively not that expensive considering what it came with and the conservation state it's in. I paid the equivalent to 265 USD.>>12462673I was torn between the grey and the white, I didn't wanted the western black ones, partially because of the startup, part because of the comic sans-like font on the shell.
>>12463336>Otome game saves in itNice. What other games did it come with besides the ones you mentioned?
Saturn gaming is too expensive.
>>12463448>Banprestooh no
>>12463448Only meme games inflated by Jewtubers and the odd meme franchise like Castlevania or Mega Man. Almost all of the Saturn's best games are dirt cheap, at least in their Japanese form.
>>12463448Cotton 2 is on steam for like 4 bucks
>>12463431Mostly games no one care besides those two- Shining Wisdom- J-League Victory Goal- International Victory Goal (surprisingly fun!)- Gran Chaser- Masters Harukanaru Augusta 3 (golfing)- Greatest Nine 96 (baseball)- Mahjong Gokuu Tenjiki- Shinsetsu Yumemi Yakata (FMV adventure game)- Virtua fighter 2 - Fighting Vipers Next stop: Saroo
>>12463448just install an ODE
>>12464971Where can one buy a decent Saroo that isn't shit?
>>12464971>Gran ChaserLooks fun. Did you try it?
>>12465413Do you have a specific recommendation?
>>12464837It's $7.
>>12463808Meme franchise?
>>12464971>- International Victory Goal (surprisingly fun!)I spent many hours playing the sequels, Sega Worldwide Soccer '97 and '98, on my Saturn as a kid. Really fun games. Sadly, they handed the franchise off to a different developer for the Dreamcast and the results were dog shit.>>12465652>>12465717Personally, I wouldn't buy a Saroo though, unless you're willing to put up with its many compatibility issues. Even a lot of titles that'll launch on one have issues once you get further into the game. It's still in development and things may improve in the future, but right now it has by far the lowest compatibility of any Saturn ODE (not that it is an ODE, technically). You can get a Satiator clone on AliExpress now that'll be much more compatible.https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008310929573.htmlThere are also Fenrir clones on there, which again has much better compatibility than Saroo, but I don't know how they are and they're more of a pain to install, versus just shoving the Satiator in the card slot at the back.
>>12452272Madou monogatari saturn
>>12453781Cotton 2 is translated.
>>12465843Does installing the saroo mean you can't play discs?
>>12466327Saroo and Satiator both allow you to keep your disc drive. You just lose the cartridge slot with Saroo and the MPEG card slot with Satiator. Though Saroo doesn't support using the MPEG card, so you don't get the best of both worlds and can't play games that require it. Fenrir replaces the disc drive entirely by default, though there's an add-on you can buy that allows you to keep it. The more expensive 'Pro' clones on AliExpress come with that addon. It's not automatic though. You install a physical switch to flip between them, which hides in the card slot alcove.
i wish the saturn version of suikoden was translated because it has extra content the playstation/windows versions dont have
Also on Playstation, dunno what differences there might be
>>12466565Graphically that looks like something from the next decade. Tell me more because mobygames says it's like Tactics Ogre and I hated Tactics Ogre because the game wanted me to grind by hitting my own guys
>>12466815ゲームカタログ@Wiki says it's a "solid mass of chuunibyou taste"Doesn't say anything about hitting your own guys though
>>12455936Good thing I didn't listen to you, according to this guy (and unsurprisingly) the PSP version makes the game a lot easier by making it easier to raise loyalty and upping the damage of most attackshttps://lparchive.org/Shin-Megami-Tensei-Devil-Summoner/Update%2023/
>>12467537Yes, those are improvements if you're the kind of person who recognizes that grinding does not equal difficulty. It's a Megami Tensei game. They are never difficult. It also fixes soft locks and bugs. Please, play the Saturn version. I hope your save becomes corrupted. You ignorant asshole.
>>12467694> It's a Megami Tensei game. They are never difficult.Well one certainly would think that if all he played were handheld ports that, among other things, make everything the player has stronger and let him save anywhere anytime.>You ignorant asshole.Funny you say that considering you didn't seem to be aware there were gameplay differences in a previous post. Like I assumed from the start, it's always the same thing with handheld ports of console RPGs (especially when they're cross generational): they casualize the games to the point they render some mechanics pointless or stupid, have a bunch of shitty additions, and then younger people who only played that version and that never knew better try to convince everyone it's actually "the best version" because it's not enough to have a taste for shit, everyone else must eat it too.
>>12467537>Good thing I listened to this guy who played it instead of this guy who played itokay...
>>12469437I didn't listen to either guy, the guy from the link also recommends to go with the PSP version
>>12452309>he has some nerve discussing video games on a video game board
>>12465843I can vouch on the saroo. I mainly have it since I want my disc drive intact and it is getting better with updates. But man some of the compatibility issues are rough. I've played some games that work perfectly and beat them no problem. Daytona USASky TargetWinning Postand a few others ran without any issues. But some stuff like last bronx had some minor graphical issues that are noticable and some other minor things. Might be my saroo but it also is really finicky when inserted. If I take it out, it gets really really finicky if it'll load.
>>12472436The Saturn cartridge slot is pretty flaky in general, probably since it's really high density with a ton of pins (134, versus say 72 on the NES or just 48 on the N64).
