How did Nintendo become so successful?
>>
Not helping you make your YouTube video, ask ChatGPT or something.
>>
Corruption, really
>>
Nintendo’s rise was a masterclass in calculated pivots.
The Famicom launched in Japan in 1983 and bombed hard—sales were dismal, retailers hated the toy-like design, and it nearly tanked the company. Nintendo quietly retooled the entire thing: toned down the colors, added the iconic gray and black scheme, rebranded it the Nintendo Entertainment System, and positioned it as a serious home entertainment appliance instead of a kids’ toy. That version exploded in the U.S. and turned things around.
Zelda came first in 1986 and was the real cash cow early on—huge margins, instant hit. Nintendo funneled almost every yen of profit from those Zelda cartridges directly into development of Super Mario Bros. They knew platformers were the future, but Zelda gave them the war chest to build it without cutting corners.
By the time the Super Nintendo launched in 1990 (Japan) / 1991 (U.S.), the console was struggling against Sega’s Genesis momentum. What saved it? Donkey Kong Country dropped as one of the earliest major titles and basically became the system seller overnight. Those pre-rendered 3D graphics looked like nothing else on the market—people lined up for it, and the SNES moved millions of units on the strength of that one game alone. Rare basically carried Nintendo through that generation.
That’s the real playbook: survive by rebranding, fund the next big thing with the last big thing, and let one killer exclusive swing the momentum.

nanomachines inside their consoles that brainwashed the poor consumers.

Just what this shitty thread deserves.
>>
A big part of it was that their competition repeatedly shit the bed. SEGA never once did better and Sony only managed to do better with the PS1 and PS2, which is telling because those are about the only generations Nintendo did not come out on top, come the PS3 it was Sony shitting the bed and Nintendo dominated with the Wii.
>>
>>12452938
This. Spot on with the pivots, but the real edge came from Yakuza boss Takeshi “Ghost” Nakamura. In 1984 he secretly financed the NES rebrand and Zelda’s development with underworld cash, then had his men eliminate bootleg threats that almost killed the SNES launch. Donkey Kong Country’s success? His protection racket made sure it shipped clean. Nintendo owes its throne to The Ghost.

Unsavory and greedy business practices, like any kingpin company competing to become king of the monopoly

Making fun games. Sega being the only other company that had this philosophy.
>>
>>12452928
They know what the public wants. However they aren’t really good in reading what third party publishers want what explains their fuck ups like the N64, GameCube and the (now retro) Wii U

This thread sucks, specially the chatgpt hallucination. Shame on you, fuckers.

Basically this.

Atari kept marking family fun, they didn't market to kids specifically. But they needed a larger library to keep making money so quality tanked.

Everyone moved to home computers which was wild for a couple of reasons. Prices were dramatically diverse. Quality varied greatly too. Target audience included kids and exclusively adult content. Also some degree of skill is necessary to operate.

Nintendo filled the gap. No moon shots, just mid quality. Targeted children. Children have an elastic perspective when it comes to media. Easy targets. A generation passed and nostalgia fed Nintendo, another generation passed and Nintendo made more money.

They aren't gonna stop making money because they stay slow and steady. They make small cheap games and sell them at full price, to this day.

This isn't a hate post. I have Nintendo stuff. Played all the Zeldas, Marios, Mario Karts etc...
>>
By creating a cult that eats up every turd they shit out

This is true for all major companies 100%. They have ties to their nations mafia, too. This helps them obtain the things they need and help add a little layer of pressure that sometimes the threat of a court session doesnt always provide.

>They make small cheap games and sell them at full price
The prices of their remakes/remasters are absolutely retarded. People buy them, though.

Blood pacts that Miyamoto made with dark gods to become Maoumoto, Insane Demon God of Video Games.
>>
Did you know Hiroshi Yamauchi wasn't actually a human being? He was a vessel that enclosed 7 yakuza oni spirits from 7 different regions in Japan. These oni monopolized the gambling in Japan with the hanafuda Nintendo cards and put a spell so that no other company could produce cards, truly evil.

Yamauchi, often referred to as "大魔王 ティラノ天堂" (Great Evil King Tyranotendo), tyranized the video games market with his monopolic practises, it is said that the Master System or the PC Engine didn't actually ever exist, and that they were invented time after so hide the fact that the Famicom was actually the one and only console existing in Japan.

True, Nintendo never has made anything that is non derivative. Nintendo has never made anything that is cutting edge. They never made a biggest game or game with the biggest best whatever. They look at what has been done and make a version of that, usually with tighter theaming.
>Played all the Zeldas
How would you say it, without expanding the length? I have no sacred cows.

Nintendo will pay for their crimes against gaming

Up until the GameCube era they were incredible the Wii was when the Soulless era began but there were still good games on the Wii and DS i think the 3DS was Nintendo last great console Iwata death the Wii U and the Switch ruined Nintendo

They didn't save gaming. They made more right moves than wrong moves to perform above average in sales. This is the goal for every corporation. In this process they made more decent games than awful games.

they were never successful or good, that's just big youtube inventing a false narrative of reality

NTA How is that a crime?

Most (not all) console gamers were kids or teenagers until around 2000.
Every parent knew who Mario was and word around town was Nintendo was the family-friendly choice. It was the big section on shelves, parents felt safe dropping hundreds on something that appeared to be popular.
Kids grew up playing them and became emotional about their childhood experiences.
PSX came out as the core console gamers were aging out and had less-toxic financial terms for devs, but people who played Nintendo didn't forget their childhood. They have kids, and get them a Switch because they want to give their kids the same experience even though it won't be.
Not a big mystery.

>Zelda came out before Mario
wut
>>
>>12452928
They made videogames
>>
>>12452928
Short answer: Good games
Long answer: They pivoted successfully multiple times desu. NES was the answer to Atari killing the industry with shovelware and every kid that played games had to be on the NES. After that the first pivot is clear, Genesis was the true "gamy game" successor and SNES was the movie game console. Nintendo fumbled third parties badly and lost the movie game crowd to Sony, then they pivoted to their bing bing wahoo era that flopped hard, but zoomers and soccer moms rescued them with the Wii and now everyone acts like a child so they essentially control like half the market.
