What's the best demo disc you ever played?
>>
Certainly not console discs with their measly 5-6 demos

PC Play 3. I put so many hours in powerboat, we got explosives 2, red alert and quake 2.
>>
>>12459108
The one that came with the Dreamcast. Not only because of the selection of games on it(Power Stone, Sonic Adventure, HotD2, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, etc) but it was all I had to play for a week when I first picked up my brand new DC. Lived far from town and the one game I bought with the system(Sonic Adventure) was bad right out of the case so I had to wait for my parents to take me back so I could return it.

I remember a specific demo disc that had:
>Burnout 2
>Hitman 2
>Ratchet & Clank
>Red Faction II
>Summoner 2
>Tekken 4
>V-Rally 3
I easily played it for dozens of hours.
>>
the dreamcast one w/ virtua tennis on it. i liked it so much and never actually cared to get the full game because the exhibition game you played was enough
>>

Not the blue ones they didn't werk 15 years later anymore but the ridge racer 5 was good or maybe it was video only and not my launch gaem
>>
>>12459108
The one that sticks with me the most was a PSX demo disc that had Cool Boarders 1 or 2 on it.
>>
Oh man it's got a Viewtiful Joe 2 demo on it!!

Were these actually demos?
>>
I didn't have too many demo discs. There was one with something like a 4x4 grid, some demos, some ads, and the top left I believe was Bloody Roar and/or Hot Shots Golf. Bloody Roar only had the first two characters.
the Underground Jam Pack displayed the content as monorail or something, and each car was a different option, and I believe one of them had a Japanese demos setting, that included The Annoying Stick
also Pizza Hut gave out a THPS1 demo disc of the chicago level, it was great.

>Has an exclusive FMV full vocal music video
>>
Nintendo didn't really do demo discs with the GameCube or the Wii even
>>
I played the hell out of the Ratchet and Clank 2 demo on the Winter 2003 Jampack as a kid before I could buy the game. That demo was definitely the MVP of that disk and it's not even close.
>>
demo discs were so fucking comfy
>>

Yeah only the 2 VHS tapes for donkay kon and star fox think I got them double
>>
>>12459940
>mgs demo
I dont understand
>>
>>12460432
probably just a video. they used to have to specify "playable demo". a looping video demo would be called a "rolling demo"
>>
yeah played the shit out of the disc with the dark cloud demo

Basically this. Imagine walking into Target and Staples and getting a demo disk with all sorts of weird shit for $5. Doom was on all of them. Sometimes you would get lucky and a weird adult game would be hidden in the mix.

Great times... loved those CDs.
>>
>>12460428
totally agree, it is like going to supermaket and trying all those free sample from every aisle.
>>
great music, several playable games with either huge levels to explore, or many different players to find. And epic music in every single demo.
>>
>>12459108
Definitely the MGS2 demo disc. Put more time into that demo than most full games I’ve beaten. Also the def jam fight for NY demo pack because it never gets old smashing rappers into all sorts of things like tricked out Escalades and such.
>>
>>12459194
This has more entertainment and fun in it then the entirety of RE9 (it’s in my head from seeing it streamed and how god awful it was). Imagine a world where demo discs from the late 90s early 2000s would have deeper and better gameplay than modern aaa titles. Oh wait u don’t..
>>
>>12460436
Man i forgot that they had videos on them and not all were playable

I have a Playstation Underground demo disc that has a whole MST3K short as an intro.

Thanks for the rec, going to see if this is on archive and slap it in a vm.

This was my favorite. Seriously amazing. It was crazy to get to play a shitload of games that you then clearly wanted, but couldn't immediately play full versions of because there were so many of them.

I couldn't tell you. I played a LOT of the demo disc with g-police and crash 2 on it. I also put many hours into future cop LAPD as well. That said my most played demo (not pictured here) is the OPSM2 demo of timesplitters 2 - I played that for hours each day in the month or so before the full game release and got very, very good at it to the point some of changes in the final game (like colour of the sniper scope and flamethrower redesign) annoyed me and kinda do to this day.
>>
>>12462867
I have the metalgear solid one with 14 net yaroze games, that one is amazing.
>>
>>12459108
A Playstation Magazine disc with tons of net yaroze games, mostly 2D in the ps1 style. Also had plenty of other game like Devil Dice.

>>12460180
I think I had that one or similar. Monkey Hero was a Zelda style game and the demo let you play for ages. A bugs life was super impressive with how big and detailed the level was. It would take you many days to get through all those, there is something about these that is super fun because they put you in the middle of it instead of starting with the lowest gear or first level.

For PC you used to already see these 100 in 1 or whatever demos. One of them had a sort of fake DOS window gui thing with games like transport tycoon and games mostly from 1995 and earlier. For the mid 90's it was perfect since newer games were starting to get really slow.

>>12459194
Remind me of pc gamer, they would even have non gamer stuff and articles that you could spend hours reading. Once there was the route 66 trip planner than came with a ton of Mustang commercials from the 60's and 70's.

After ps2 I seemed to get bored of the demos after an hour or so.

You ever really like a game demo only to never find an actual copy of it in stores?

That game was MediEvil for it. That demo was awesome but I could never find the game anywhere, I never played the full game until it got rereleased digitally on PSN.
>>
>>12459108
I loved feeling not knowing what I would get selecting a demo from the list just looking at a small image from the cover, I missed it
>>
>>12463246
Felony 11-79. That said from playing the game years later I dodged a bullet.
>>
>>12459514
Based. I had that disc and it honestly gave me more entertainment than most AAA games have.
Just such a good variety of quality games.

>less playable demos than normal
>but understandable because they had to fit playable parts of Spyro 2 (2 different levels in the demo!) AND GT2, a game that had to be split into two CDs when the full game came out
>Lammy is there too!

I used to have this but I can no longer find it :/

Damn, Bootleg Sampler. I remember playing that.

For OP's question whichever issue of OPM UK had the Destruction Derby RAW demo where you could break it by holding down Start + X before it loaded and were able to drive through the Dragonfly track itself.
