>Spearheaded by retro programmer Kan Naito and notorious JP retro Youtuber 4ST
>Kan Naito is better known for his work at Chunsoft as a programmer on DQ3 & 4 before leaving and funding his own company, Climax Entertainment, who worked on Shining Force and Stalker series among others
>The game is a spin-off of "Lady Stalker" which in itself was a spin-off of Landstalker
>The original character designer for Lady Stalker, Yoshitaka Tamaki, passed away back in 2023, but the game will include a new never seen before character designed by him
>The main gimmick of the game is the cartridge board itself, which had a previous successful crowdfunding campaign for its development
>The two LEDs on the sides of the cartridge will react to the game in different ways, such as lighting up different colors in battle depending on the actions of the player, working as an item detector while exploring the field, used as a compass during dungeons, change color during some conversations depending on the mood, etc
>Scale wise, Naito said he wants to make something at least on the level of DQ2, but may expand the game more or make a more ambitious sequel depending on reception
>Since the cartridge board funding met its stretch goals, more features will be added like : WiFi & BT, large size ROM and RAM, chips for enhanced graphics and sound, and more
>Apparently they're also working on a modern Famiclone console, so "more people can enjoy the game"

Thoughts?

>>
Hey if it's a turn based RPG, neat I might look into it
If it's not? Well hopefully it does well for them lmao
>>
>>12459978
Why the fuck not?
If you're gonna make a gimmicky cartridge may as well go all the way. The main thing was the LEDs so we don't know anything about how WiFi may even be used, but would be cool if it could be used to update the ROM or even just to backup your saves, maybe even use the BT to let you use an external controller without an adapter instead of your crusty old original controllers and chink clones, I see no harm in including the technology unless it was for something retarded like DRM.

Sounds like instead of putting work into game design with the goal of making something compelling enough to that people would want to play, they put work into making it sound really gimmicky so that people will buy it to post pictures on social media.
>>

Sounds like a grift desu.

I saw 4ST was working on the game with led cart thing but didn't realize it was connected to Ladystalker, that's kind of interesting

Cancer. If you are making a game for a retro console, i expect it to be a complete experience and not introduce lame ass modern dlc/drip feed patches BS.
>>

Didn't read but it looks like an RPG Maker hentai game
>>
>>12459973
id be interested unfortunately I dont have a top loading fc/nes so I wouldnt be able to play it to its full potential. Not interested in a famiclone either.
>>
>>12459973
It sounds like an early 90s Famicom gimmick with a modern twist. If they produce famiclones that are not only good but cheap then based but besides that I have no interest in this.
>>
Sad to see westerners so cucked by shitty KS projects of hasbeen game celebs that they can't trust anything anymore.

No, this is not a grift, if it was it's a fairly pitiful one not worth ruining either man's reputations. This is as low scale as it can be, there's no plans for any kind of international or digital release, no modern platforms either, it's squarely aimed at the JP market and at hardcore retro enthusiasts at that, that's a fairly small market if you're looking to pull a scam. Furthermore, 4ST has a good track record with retro crowd funding projects so far, he just recently fulfilled a previous project to produce physical copies of unreleased SNES game Cooly Skunk, worked with the devs and everything.

I don't own a Famicom myself but the idea sounds pretty cool and I think the custom cartridge at least adds merit to using the cartridge format beyond "muh authenticity", I'm not holding my breath for this to ever get dumped or emulated. Also, if you know even a bit of Japanese check 4ST's channel, there's legit interesting stuff that I had never even heard of before on western channels and the man always goes the extra mile while researching stuff, not just a googler/wiki reader. He also has a background in TV showbiz so the editing and narration are pretty good.

your iq is so dangerously low that it's like watching a switch flip between 0 and 1. you'd have to be clinically retarded and drooling in a wheelchair to conjure up the thought that this is "original". what is original about it, drooling retard? LEDs in the cart?! WOOOWWEEEE.

It looks way too close to Dragon Quest. And I mean, not even the biggest "DQ clones" on Famicom look THAT close to DQ. All the overworld/town/character graphics look like they are basically traced.
Then the art style of the character portrait at the shop looks anachronistic, it looks very modern.

I'll play it when a ROM dumps.

They don't understand the rest of the world. A Japanese artist (be it musician, game developer, mangaka, etc.) can live off the local audience and get rich without even learning a single word of English. Their mentality is basically "Why would American want to play/listen to/watch our stuff? Don't they already have comics, games and music made specially for them?"

The curse of every Kickstarter : They bite off more than they can chew with extra goals they have no way of actually reaching. You'd think that after so many years, they would have finally learned. I expect this to turn into a years long boondoggle/catastrophe.
>>
>>12463505
I was going to say. Let's see you guys try and code an RPG on an UNROM cart with 128k ROM like the original DQ2 and get back to me. See how well you handle the limitations developers actually had to work with back in the day.
>>
>>12462470
This is a small hobby project from Naito who just wanted an excuse to program a new Famicom RPG like in the old days but with his current accumulated experience over the years, not a large scale commercial release designed for mass appeal and profit.

They didn't even announce that it was gonna be Lady Stalker related until recently, it likely turned this way because Naito already owns that property and it's easier than coming up with a brand new setting, so he can focus more on the programming part.
>>
>>12461645
Yeah but the damn thing only served the indicate that the console was on and nothing else. Is it that hard to imagine some jp kid owning one of those carts back then and thinking "man, it would be cool if the light actually did something" ? That's pretty much who this is appealing to.
>>
why does he refuse to make something more like the best game he ever made?
>>
ok, i know i'm not insane.
a number of years ago, SOMEONE from the Landstalker team made a post that said
>Landstalker and Shining are in the same universe!
and then SOMEONE from the Shining team made a post that said
>The fuck it is.
