Why aren't you playing Golden Sun RIGHT NOW?Are you fucking retarded?
Because I already beat it twice, once vanilla and then again with the romhack.
>>12460702>Are you fucking retarded?yeah, I live on foodstamps
>>12460702I tried like a week ago and it was just so boring and generic I couldnt keep going. I never even got out of the starting village after what felt like a couple hours at least. I love jarpigs but you gotta give me something interesting to work with to keep me motivated.
>>12460702your aspect ratio is wrong champ
>>12460767Prove it
>>12460714Good, beat BOF3 next then
>>12460702Because it's hot shit.

I played through Golden Sun and got so mad at the ending that I won't be playing the sequal
>>12460702>>12460702>why aren't you scrolling through tons of dialogue and solving baby puzzles RIGHT NOW?>Are you fucking NOT retarded?Yes, I'm not.
>>12460702Because I just played itGo play Shining in the darkness and holy ark if you want more Golden Sun
>>12460973All 3? on hard mode?
>>12460702I did about a decade ago and I won't go through it again. If it was boring when it was a brand-new experience, I can't imagine how much more it will be on a replay. No, I will not play Dark Dawn. Also, Mono elemental >>> everything else.
>>12461027You already forgot most of it anyway fag.
>>12461025>32
>>12460765Same, forced myself to play for about half an hour but the game didn't have any hooks to keep me interested. Bland.
It's just so ugly all around
>>12460702Why is this game so boring? Why does everyone talk so much? Why does everyone in every scene have to react to every line of dialog so slowly?>>12461132It's GBA so it can't be helped.
>>12461139GBA had games that looked like this
>>12460702Seems a bit boring and bland when I got up to the first dungeon. I'll play through it eventually though.
I just started Dual Orb 2 yesterday, leave me the fuck alone
>>12461132Looks good when you play it on an actual GBAIf you like the pre-rendered look
Why didn't Saturos and Menardi use their super jumping powers after the timeskip?
>>12461154Goldensun looks better
>>12460702It's shit, I'd rather replay Shining Force 1 yet again.
>>12461320delusional faggot
>>12461462Didn't know Shining had a manga, gonna look it up.
>>12461605It's obscure and wild.

>>12461297It isn't pre-rendered.
>>12461795Anon, the sprites are 3D renders turned into 2d, the same way Donkey Kong country is
>>12460702Because everytime i see screenshots of the game it instantly reminds me of Mario Tennis and I don't like that
>>12461154god i love brownie brown's art style. it made sword of mana worth playing despite it being a wankass remake.the sequel to magical vacation, magical starsign, is in my top 10 favorite DS games, and my top 3 DS rpgs. so fucking good.
>>12461320Honest GOD
I'll be honest. Golden Sun just feels like the primo example of "babies first JRPG".Don't get me wrong, fun when I was young like most of you, but it being a Nintendo games means it's just a watered down RPG. Most of the mechanics or fights of secret bosses could be beaten by my dumb 12 year old brain that didn't know any better other than to summon or attack.
>>12462523This.Golden Sun games are just a watered down version of Sega Saturn classic Shining the Holy Ark.
>>12462892Holy ark is great, you don’t need to shit on another game to sing its praises
It's not a "bad" game, but I have never understood why milenials talk about this game like it's the last coke on the desert.
>>12460702I'm not into 4-niggas-in-a-row JRPGs, always preferred SRPGs instead.
>>12460946>baby puzzles>>12462523>watered down RPG. Most of the mechanics or fights of secret bosses could be beaten by my dumb 12 year old brain that didn't know any better other than to summon or attack. So we all agree that it is exactly as good as Lufia 2
>>12460702not in the mood for kusoge
>>12463120That's the only defense you can come up with for your game, attacking other (and better) RPGs? It just reinforces the idea people only like this game because it was their first, literal baby's first rpg.
>>12460702>Why aren't you playing Golden Sun RIGHT NOWI'm not an easily entertained 8 year old kid with poor motor control
>>12460702Because I played it when it was new and was bored to tears.
>>12460714Are there full good story romhacks? Cause ive only seen randomizers and things for playthroughs meant for people who utilize the leveling system to its max.
>>12460702Any opinion on the recolor patch?
>>12463653Looks too dark
>>12460702>that shader and bezelyou aren't playing it either.
>>12463653all recolor patches are shit.yes, even the ones that restore the snes colors. if you want the snes colors so bad then play the snes version of the game.
>>12460702I tried it a decade ago and found it really boring. Stopping every few sentences to make facial expressions was unbearable.
>>12460714What romhack? Id like to play GS again, but I dread having to go through all the dialogue another time...
>>12463653>>12463674>Looks too darkThat's why I personally just adjust the gamma. You can do it with any game and you can adjust it to your personal liking

>>12463653I don't know, some of these screens could be straight out of Seiken Densetsu 3, I might give it a try.
>>12464542they are two beautiful games, the people saying the games are ugly are just living in a different universe.
>>12462912Being a graphically impressive rpg on the gba will do that.

I like the job system but you can't really play with it until you have more djinni.>>12460714what romhack?
>>12460702Golden Sun is fucking terrible and I have no idea how it has a fanbase at all.
>>12467291It was one of very few JRPGs on the GBA that weren't just an inferior port of a SNES game.
>>12467294I bought Breath of Fire 2 shortly after I bought Golden Sun and it was so much better it hurt.
>>12467296I really like the world of Golden Sun, that's why Dark Dawn is my least favorite since it pretends like all those place not seen in the first two games existed the whole time. The sense of exploration, finding ancient places and not just finding keys in dungeons is fantastic.I know many RPGs with better stories and better combat but as a package with this scale nothing comes really close in my opinion.
>>12461676Shrek Fairy Tale Freakdown >>>>>>>>>> Golden Sun
CRT shader on a GBA game
>>12467296>Port of a full console RPG>>12467667It's pretty good, still have my original copy of GS1. However younger people emulating don't get the context that this was a full-fledged RPG on a handheld which was wild at the time.It also takes hours, quite a few hours, to get into the swing of things. So people who emulate never get past the first 2 towns and I totally get that.It is very satisfying in the latter half. And a really cozy experience. But I get why few get into it now that didn't play it then. Why emulate Golden Sun when you can emulate FFIV-X in the same time for the same cost (zero)? I get it.
>>12467709I was pretty big into rpgs back then and had played most of the Gameboy and GBC ones some of which were pretty great. I remember Golden Sun looking cool but found it so generic I really only kept playing because of long train rides with too few new games. I still find it surprising there were actual fans of it.
>>12467818What were some good GB rpgs that were localized to the west? I knew of a few like the saga and mana games and ofc pokemon but it wasn't a genre I saw very much of outside of imports.
>>12460702>disgusting blurry CRT shader on a GBA game? Are you fucking retarded?
>>12467829Other than the final fantasies, pokemon and the dragon quest games, Lufia were all pretty great to me. Metal Walker which I posted I thought was a lot of fun. It's a post apocalyptic sci fi game with a sort of pool style combat system. Revelations was also the first megaten game I played. Harvest Moon and the River Kings weren't exactly rpgs but scratched a similar itch, which I think was part of it. The gameboy felt like it had a lot of experimental rpg type games. I was also playing a lot of console rpgs and had a Nomad which I couldn't play on the train, but did have a very boring job which was mostly just gaming. And so Golden Sun kind of fell in the middle of all that and it's probably an important note that this was on the cusp of me mostly burning out on the whole genre. So I don't mean to rag on it that hard, but I remember it being one of the first games where even though it was new it felt like I'd already played it. My lackluster response aside, I'm glad people enjoyed it.
>>12467926Most of those titles were niche as hell, and were a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the roster. Its great that you found them like that (I discovered SF2: SoH on the game gear and embraced srpgs similarly) but the game boy was not even remotely known for its rpgs, unfortunately. Definitely plan on checking those out, but I guess my point was that you're not using a very common point of reference when most people only knew of 2 or 3 rpgs on the system. Thanks for the recs tho.
>>12467854It's the only way to make it look good on a big TV
>>12467929I never paid much attention to or cared what was niche or not, I would try out almost anything that looked like an rpg and go from there. It's how I discovered Wardner because I found it in a pawn shop and my buddy thought he remembered it being an RPG and then we got home and found it was a dog shit platformer. But it's also how I discovered Beyond Oasis which is still to this day, one of my favorite games ever. Also random, if you like SRPGs and Gundam, Zone of Enders: Fist of Mars is fucking fantasticabd woefully under looked.
>>12467941>I never paid much attention to or cared what was niche or notWhat was niche or not mattered depding on what your local stores carried. There are plenty of games I would look for in magazines but never find in local stores. Point being, if you werent both a turbonerd like me and lucky enough to find copies, a lot of niche games were very hard to come by or discover.>Also random, if you like SRPGs and Gundam, Zone of Enders: Fist of Mars is fucking fantasticabd woefully under looked.Thought it was alright, couldn't really get into it, but I loved the ps2 games. Should probably give it another try, been a few years.
>>12467949I'm not sure what it was like elsewhere, but here in Canada there was Toys R Us and Consumer's Distributing. Toys R Us had masses of shit and Consumer's Distributing was a huge catalog where you could just order whatever and wait for it to show up. I read a lot of video game mags as well as one just called Games which was mostly crosswords and stuff like that but also had a few video game reviews. It's how I first heard about Ecco the Dolphin which made me get a Genesis in the first place. Right there with you on the PS2 ZoE games. Dingo is still one of the go-to names I input when starting something new.
>>12460702I refuse to beat it until I get all the djinn
>>12467995Guess my point was that the vast majority of people were not exposed to many handheld rpgs by the time Golden Sun came out, which combined with its scale and quality made it very impressive at the time. If it didn't have a segmented release between two parts and was a bit more concise it would have been pretty universally praised.
>>12468008I get that, it's a fair point. I'm not trying to describe a universal experience, just mine.
>>12468005Collecting djinn was so satisfying
>>12468032Certainly allowed to, fren. That said, if you ever want to give them another go, stuff like messing with the class system helps the gameplay make up for how needlessly verbose the dialogue can be at times Its one of those games where the path of least resistance is easy and kinda boring, but messing around with the rest of the game and the bonus dungeons and such can be pretty damn fun. Have to get past the weak first impression though, especially by today's standards.
>>12460702I love that you get so many opportunities to answer Yes/No in conversations for even the most mundane things and people will start to get frustrated with you for constantly contradicting them.
>>12468076This Yes/No stuff is pretty common in JRPGs for some reason. In GS1 you can actually prematurely end the game if they ask you if you want to save the world and you reply with No lol.
>>12467709>Port of a full console RPGYes. It really highlighted how not up to par Golden Sun was.
>>12460702Because it's just not good, that's why. There are probably about 20 other RPGs on the GBA I'd reach for before golden sun.
>>12460714What romhack?
I recently picked up a copy of GS: The Lost Age, and I plan to pick up where I left off, after finishing the first game nearly 25 years ago. I completely forget what happened in the first game though, since it's been so long. Would someone be willing to give me the gist of what happened, or point me towards a summary of the story? Also, I have two GBAs and a link cable, so I was gonna do the link cable transfer thing. What does that do exactly, and how much does it change the gameplay of Lost Age compared to just starting Lost Age fresh?
>>12468947I’m pretty sure the game actually gives you a summary of the first when you start itThough it’s advised to use the passcode to continue with your characters
>>12468947In the Lost Age, you start off with a different group of characters, but later in the game you'll meet up with the ones from the first game. If you used the transfer, these characters will be the exact ones you beat the first game with in regards to stats, items and most importantly djinni. Otherwise they'll be a preset group with only 18 djinni. There's a secret postgame dungeon that requires all djinni to enter, so this is off-limits without the transfer-only ones. There's also a couple events that will trigger if you completed specific subquests in the first game (though the rewards you get from these events are pretty pointless).
>>12468040Thanks! I think you've piqued my intetest so actually I'm now going to be in the same boat as this guy >>12468947 . I have a bunch of boring work these days where I can basically just babysit a prototype device making sure it doesn't break down or catch fire so I've been cycling through looking for something bew to play. I gave PoPoLoCrois another shot and found it as mind numbing as I remembered, so figure I might as well try the second Golden Sun and see how it goes.
>>12460702Because I beat them both 20 years ago before you were born.
>>12468982Oh, that's good to know. I should have guessed that the second game would get you caught up on the events of the first. I actually still have my original GS cartridge with my save from over two decades ago still on it, and was going to do the link cable transfer using two of my GBAs.>>12469291Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. For some reason I was thinking that you'd continue into the second game using the same party from the first.
Didn't the Switch Online version remove the password transfer system?
>>12470343> For some reason I was thinking that you'd continue into the second game using the same party from the first. It sets the second game up that way, but yeah the perspective changes from the start, which was pretty smart since it gives a good reason to be starting back at low levels. Its pretty neat when the two groups meet up, and endgame stuff from the first game is worth carrying over but you can get late game equipment stronger than what was available in the first game so its not too big a deal if you don't carry over stuff like weapons. IIRC there are a few Djinni that you need to transfer over but I know at least most of them can still be re-found if not transferred over.
because right now I'm chain smoking marbs, listening to DJ screw and playing Daggerfall. Real niggas play real RPGs. None of that girly guy shit dress up like a woman type shit like Final Faggotry 7.
